The 3:05 poster is wrong. Idaho Falls has more people than Pocatello. However, what the person said was that Pocatello is the second largest city outside of metro-Boise. That is true, although Pocatello is the fifthed most populous city in Idaho.
The most recent population estimate for Pocatelo is 54,000 to Idaho Falls 57,000 and Meridan Idaho's 60,000. Meridian is growing quite fast though. In 2000 when Pocatello had 51,500 people Meridian had 34,000 people.

I have to retract my previous statement on Pocatello and Idaho Falls. The claim on Wikipedia is that Idaho Falls has 58,000 people in 2008, which may be true. However the most recent census estimates from 2006 put Pocatello's population at just under 54,000 to Idaho Falls population of just over 52,000. There are more church members in Idaho Falls, and we also have to bear in mind that there are several communities like Alameda and Ucon rigth around Idaho Falls.
Of course in Pocatello's defense, if you go much south of there the closest temple is Logan, which I am sure is getting well used with population growth in Northern Utah, so a temple somewhere around Pocatello would be well used.
Humanitarian Aid given by the church is given without any strings. How else can we explain all the aid to countires like Pakistan where the church is not allowed to proselyte at all?
However, I think the whole issue about how much the church gives is obscured because much of the aid the church gives to the poor and the needy is through the fast offering funds and such institutions as Deseret Industires.

Beyond the previously marked issues, the temples provide benefits that people can get in no other way.
To fulfill all the demands of the law people must be able to go and recieve ordiances in the temple. Those of you who do not believe in such things should at least understand that Latter-day Saints do.
Yes, we need to help those who lack food and shelter. However, it is also a great blessing to people to have a temple they can easily reach on the subway, or one that is only a few hours away as opposed to a few days.
I would not in the least be surised if many church leaders in Naples have never been to the temple because the cost and time associatred with traveling to Switzerland is so high.

pocatello in the last estimate says the population is 58000 to idahofalls 55000 but its all estimated till 2010 when they do the census every 10 years, but pocatello metro is well over 100,000 when idahofalls isnt big enough to be considered a metropolitan area pocatello is 1000 times prettier than idahofalls though

The area of KC that the temple will be built in is not a "crummy" area. It's a clean, hardworking, middle class area, surrounded by rural farm land, and it boasts some of the best schools in Missouri. The spot is just off three main highways, about 10 min. from the airport, 10 min. from Liberty, 15 min. from Independance and an easy commute to the city. I can easily understand why they chose that spot. They chose it for the same reasons we did. This is truly the heartland and one of the greatest places in the country! I am not Mormon but I welcome the Temple and commerce it will bring to my back yard.

Im from blackfoot, which is now in the pocatello metro area, and the blackfoot area stakes are considered to be in the pocatello area. I recently talked with my stake president and he is a very wise man! He says its only a matter of time before pocatello gets a temple! he says with so many stakes in the pocatello area, its bound to happen! With pocatello being so pretty having a temple there with the mountains as a back drop would be awesome!
