*** UPSET SPECIALS? Could it be? Typically, upsets aren't as plentiful in high school, let alone to actually guess an upset correctly. So, anybody want to take a stab at an upset in these 5A games?
Bingham @ Riverton
Syracuse @ Layton
Pleasant Grove @ Spanish Fork
Jordan @ Brighton
Hillcrest @ Alta (HA!! just kidding!)
My UPSET SPECIAL OF THE WEEK, for whatever reason other than maybe it's just the way the ball bounces, and home field advantage (along with the fact that their offense is explosive & I expect a shootout):
Riverton over Bingham 34-32
Any others? 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A???? Come on....somebody else stick their necks out.
And Second, Your not a writer for the des news so stop acting like it!
Alta 72 - Hillcrest - 0.
And how Bingham is still in the top 10 is totally ridiculous. The only thing scarier and scarier about Bingham is how their always adored by the media. Get off it already will ya? They've lost two games and will more than likely lose again before the playoffs.
I just hope Layton thinks they're ready in November.
Come on Dnews...Cottonwood is definetly better than Layton and proved it...but they can't beat Bingham, and the Timp Whimps are the kings of Utah County, but couldn't beat ALTA or Bingham!
Predictions....
Watch as Syracuse dumps Layton!
And Bingham will lite up Riverton 45-3
East will stun Cottonwood!
Timp will knock off another 3A team!
And the Skyline Seagles will lose another one!
For Upset TBLF, I give Syracuse or SF the higher odds. I have seen them all. Rivertons O is good, but say what you will Bingham is tough. Brighton is a joke, so count Jordan a win.
SF if they throw a ton I can see that happening. As for 'cuse i dont really expect them to beat Layton but it seems to me that Region 1 may be the top to bottom toughest region, but everyone is mediocre (at the moment). If Jackson continues to impress then I give it to Layton, but really, Layton should have lost to Northridge who did lose to Syracuse. I guess I give the Region 1 nod to Layton, only because they are better then the rest of averages.
Pretty much 5A is ALL average, even Alta, they have no O line, and no RB. No real power house this year in 5A.
5A
1. Alta: Hawks continue to dominate.
2. Layton: Big game against surging Syracuse awaits the Lancers.
3. Bingham: 0-2 start is all but a distant memory now.
4. Pleasant Grove: Vikings showed they know how to win close games with tough test against Lone Peak.
5. Jordan: Beetdiggers are starting to turn up the heat at the right time.
6. Syracuse: Titans looking like anything but a second year team.
7. Riverton: Do the Silverwolves have what it takes to steal region 3 from Bingham?
8. Northridge: two weaks, two overtime losses, to two good teams. The knights need to put it back together and fast.
9. Skyline: Eagles should make the playoffs where they usually do better than expected.
10. Lone Peak: This is the first time I have ever moved a team into the top 10 after a loss, but the Knights were impressive against a TOUGH PG team.
4A-
1. Timpview: T-Birds now hold the record for most consecutive wins. Congrats to Timpview.
2. Cottonwood: Showdown with East will provide us with the Region 6 Champion.
3. Pine View: Another win for the Panthers in their quirky 4A/3A region.
4. Sky View: With the Bobcats not having their starting QB, Sky View looks kind of vulnerable.
5. Mountain Crest: One game to go before the Mustangs travel North for a Cache Valley Classic.
6. East: Leopards can prove how good they are with a huge upset over Cottonwood on Friday.
7. Dixie: Flyers picking up momentum at the right time.
8. Bountiful: Bounced back nicely with a big win over surging Woods Cross.
9. Highland: Rams in unfamiliar territory as the 3rd best team in Region 6.
10. Springville: Devils are showing they were no fluke.
Also, Pine View has beaten several lousy teams, but gets destroyed by Cottonwood and should have lost to 3A Hurricane, if their coach just kicks a field goal from the 3 yard line. They are way over rated. The competition down south is bad this year.
Bingham @ Riverton=BLOWOUT
Syracuse @ Layton ???who is favored????
Pleasant Grove @ Spanish Fork=BLOWOUT
Jordan @ Brighton=BLOWOUT
Hillcrest @ Alta (HA!! just kidding!)=BLOWOUT
Spanish Fork held American Fork to -20 yards(that's negative) rusing and Timpanogos to -40 yards rushing.
How in the world you have some of these teams in the top 25 and others not just amazes me. Oh, I know half of the voters have probably on been out to a couple of games all year.
Nice try with the PV thing, but there was no field goal from the 3 yard line in the Hurricane/PV game that would have given the game to Hurricane. Pv, Cottonwood and MC had the toughest preseason schedules in 4A, so you must be a homer for a school ranked below them.
What big wins does Alta have? Sure they played some school from California and then subsequently embarrassed the state and lost.
They beat Bingham who also lost to a Skyline team which has lost to a 4A team. So a Bingham victory is fairly equal to Timpview's win over PG.
Bottom line, Timpview is the best program/team in state. Every unbiased observer has made that conclusion. So Alta needs to move on.
1. They will always give props to Alta. Here is the key, they will do this by saying BOTH teams are great.
"The Last year top two teams Alta and Layton were two of the best teams this state has seen in 10 years" Since Alta lost to Bingham and Layton lost to both Jordan and Alta makes it hard to say best "2" teams in 10 years. Skyline and Timpview had some unbeaten teams. Bingham was unbeaten in 2006. A real Altafan would only mention Alta.
2. They will always reference Region 1.
3. They will always say Bingham is overrated. Easy to say, since Layton has not had to play them. Layton has always been sub .500 until last year.
#2 and #3 were covered in one statement, "If Bingham was in Region 1 I would rank them 4 in region 1 behind Layton, Syracuse and Northridge. Region 1 is and always has been a very tough region." Seriously what Alta fan cares about Region 1.
1 - Timpview
2 - Timpview J.V.
3 - Cottonwood
4 - Bingham
5 - Pleasant Grove
6 - Timpview Sophomore team
7 - Layton
8 - Juan Diego
9 - Alta
10 -Manti
There you have it. As far as my unbiased report goes, you could have the 2000 St. Louis Rams, The 1985 Chicago Bears defense, and Chuck Norris as your quarterback............Timpview would beat yall into submission
and to all the loud and obnoxious 5A fans, until you can beat a 4A team or some out of state team from Hawaii or California.....SHHHHHhhhhhhhh.....
hi%*^jj
2.cottonwood
3.no one is close to top 2
4.Pineview
5.Mountain Crest
6.East
7.Skyview
8.Highland
9.Dixie
10.Bountiful
If Alta doesn't play anyone than who are these incredible teams that TimpView plays? Alta and Bingham intentionally try to schedule the hardest pre-region line-up possible. They go out of state, and they play eachother.
Alta has tried to schedule T-View a couple of times and the "mighty" T-Birds reject them. Lets come up with a new arguement.

Layton's offense is looking to continue to explode as injuries are starting to heal and the team continuity is starting to mesh. Syracuse, is looking for revenge, as last year, Layton beat them on their own turf, in a torrent downpour, where Syracuse almost beat 1 of the top ranked teams in the state.
The home crowd will be a plus for Layton, where thousands pour in every home game to support their team. Syracuse only beat Clearfield & Viewmont by a TD.
Layton wins 26-9.
