Speculation is worthless. The electoral map favors Obama. Mitt should prepare himself for 2012. By then, the Republicans and Independents will be begging him to run.

...could be better used in a different position. I can't recall at the moment what the Cabinet offices are, but I believe with Mitt's ability to basically make something out of nothing, he could better be used in a position where his financial expertise could be utilized. And I certainly hope Obama DOESN'T win by a landslide or anything smaller. His policies are scary!

I concur...the article is not relevant. Obama will win in an ELECTORAL landslide, with a solid popular vote margin (55% to 45%). Utah will "look out of step" with the nation as it will vote in lock step for McCain with about 68% to 32%. We'll "catch up" and realize he was a good choice about 4 years from now.

Romney would be nuts to take any kind of cabinet position. Best to sit out for four years as Obama or McCain will keep us on the path we are currently headed. Romney should run in 2012 as an outsider and keep his distance for now.

Yes; McCain's finished. But even if he were to win, he'd never pick Romney.

McCain puts up with Palin because he thinks he needs her (or thought he needed her at one point, and now that he knows better he's stuck with her). But the man is, and always has been, a one-man show. He'll never choose a cabinet member who might upstage him.

After Mike Huckabee stated he would not be interested in a cabinet position Romney said he also would not be interested and repeated the exact same thing that Huck said....he didn't want to be bossed by a 28 yr old. (I think Romney said a 20 yrs old..but, you get the point). Romney is using Mike Huckabee as a reference book on what's best for his political future and that is probably the smartest move he has made towards working for the presidency. Let the games begin....

Bad decision by McCain. Romney has substance and style, and Palin just has, well, kind of a folsky "joe six pack" style. I'm a dem and was extremely perplexed but happy w/ McCain's choice on this one.

We don't know who will win the election, but I hope the winner surrounds himself with economic and military experts, and then carefully considers their advice. That's more than Bush did. It seems he only listened to Cheney for which we are all paying dearly.
And you're right. Romney would have been a better VP choice than Palin who looks woefully unprepared (wink).

Imagine McCain's horror when Palin said in the debates that she'd jump ship on McCain's policies and do whatever she wanted were he to kick the bucket. This is one VP choice that everyone but Palin is now scratching their on (including McCain himself, I assure you).

McCain has lost the election by: not opposing the bailout and thus losing the conservative voters he was trying to pick up, while at the same time that would have distanced him from Bush. Also by not putting Sarah Palin on the speech circuit from day one. I agree with some other writers that McCain is a one man show, and Palin was set to upstage him, America loved her from day one! Based on the candidates positions on the bailout, I will vote for a third party candidate and hope to see Romney, and/or Palin back in 2012.

McCain is unable to talk his way out of a wet paper bag, and did nothing in the past 2 weeks to show concrete leadership in our crisis. Romney can at least explain derivatives and credit default swaps. I'm waiting for 2012.

Obama also has no clue but at least surrounds himself with people who know.

Can we administer an IQ test from now on. Then people like Bush and McCain would never make it this far.

McCain is history (can you say Bob Dole). Obama will win with about 300 electoral votes. We can all thank George W. Bush for this one. While all of the problems aren't his he has failed repeatedly to place any blame on the Dems. It might just be that we need Obama for four years so that we can get another Reagan type. McCain wanted to be a Maverick and all it's done has hurt him with both sides of the aisle. Republicans don't trust him and Democrats know he's not one of them.

Let's look at the dream team: Palin and McCain. If they do the great job most Utahan believe they will in the White House. Pain will get the republican nomination in 2012.

McCain fixed Mitt's changes of ever being president. I don't think McCain would pick a person he hates to be in his administration.

It's a sort of "duh" question--of course Romney could be in a McCain cabinet. If a McCain cabinet could ever exist. Which it won't.
Latest CNN poll came in about 3 minutes ago. Obama has widened his lead from 4 or 8 points in a matter of 3 weeks. Bush has just tied Nixon for the lowest approval rating in history, which also doesn't help.
Guess the rest of America is not gullible enough to buy McCain's "I'm doing things differently than Bush, except that I'm going to do everything exactly the same as Bush" campaign slogan.

This is probably the best decision that Romney has ever made, not to get mixed up in the McCain/Palin circus.
The office of vice president is a dead end job unless the president dies but no one has told Sarah Palin that yet. Does anyone think that McCain would trust her to do anything significant in the administration, after all he loves being a one man show.

You are underestimating and criticizing unfairly Sarah Palin. She is here to stay, and her star will continue to rise. And she is young. Our country has needed a credible voice from Alaska for a long time. Especially on energy issues. We now have one.

Think for a minute which ladies in the Democratic party might be considered as a VP choice: Hillary, Nancy Pelosi, and then who. Can you imagine Nancy being a VP nominee along Barack? Sarah has done a good job after being thrust into the limelight.

Actualy Mitt won elections in Massachusetts and the Republican Presidential nomination in Michigan, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada. Huckabee stayed in the race for months longer than Romney and never surpased the number of votes Romney had.

All the talk and this article are pointless though. McCain will lose this election and Obama will be making the cabinet decisions. I don't like it, but frankly we are getting what we deserve. If we weren't such a nation of sheep maybe we would stand up and demand some real leadership instead of just letting the polital soundbytes and 24 hour news networks think for us and make us feel like we have done our due dilligence.

In fact, it will probably get so bad that Hillary will return for round 2...just like Teddy Kennedy took on Jimmy Carter, and we got a good President in Ronald Reagan.

Democrats made political history by nominating a non qualified African American presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama - with zero accomplishments, votes present 40 % of the time, has NO executive experience and votes 100% of the time along party lines. Bought a house from a convicted money launderer, has a racist preacher as his spiritual adviser, associates with an unrepentant 60's radical who admits to bombings of government buildings. His wife, until recently was not proud of America. This agent of change picked his VP, a man who has been in the US Senate since Nixon was President.

You lockstep Obama fans will probably lose your jobs if he is elected. Since he plans to raise taxes on businesses, many of them will have to lay off alot of their employees and others will just go out of business rather than be over taxed. The ones who will lose their jobs will be the ones with lowest seniority (you younger people).
