I'm not encouraged at all. Just because they scored a couple of late touchdowns? They were just awful in the first half. BYU played as sloppy as they can and USU still never had a chance. I want to see the program go in a new direction. Then maybe I'll come back, but not after today. This was NO moral victory, it was another humiliating loss.
I know the Cougars want hall to be a Heisman candidate, but it was obvious that physically they could dominate USU. There were many times in the game (especially in the red zone)that I felt the cougars could have easily ran the ball for a touchdown but instead threw which resulted in field goal attempts and one interception. Hall is an amazing QB, yet when USU was selling out for the pass in the red zone attempting a run or two might be a good idea.
Every few years when BYU returns to Logan I'm reminded why I hate playing USU. Apart from the fact that there's nothing to win and everything to lose, I can't stand the fans. Don't get me wrong, part of why I love football is that thousands of fans can cheer on their team even after USU was way behind in the fourth quarter. What bothers me is that probably half as many USU fans attend all the other home games. They have no identifiable fan base, but plenty of BYU haters attend so they can chant "over-rated" since BYU only beat them by three touchdowns instead of six. I think if they had scored to get within two touchdowns on the last play the fans may have stormed the field. I got all worked up and then looked at the score. I'm actually happy USU could get something rolling in the fourth, nevermind that it took over 100 yards in ticky-tack penalties to give them some momentum, because hopefully they can win a few WAC games and help BYU's SOS. They just might move up from completely awful to significantly below average.
USU oughta feel encouraged. BYU helped them to find where their talent lies. Now, if USU can only beat Fresno State when it comes to town, that'd help BYU's image a bit.
This was a great game for Utah State! They get better every week and outplayed the supposed number 8 team in the nation for 3 out of 4 quarters. They didn't give up after a few bad turnovers in the first quarter. Give these guys a break, They are 1-1 against teams not in the top 25. Everyone knows we're going to struggle and have a tough road ahead of us. We're going to be just fine in the WAC.
USU there are "No" trophy's for last place. Oh but wait this is Utah isn't it....
This story displays the difference between a winning BYU program and an Aggie program that has won 7 games in 4 years. The aggies are encouraged because they scored twice against the Cougars. The Cougars are discouraged because their team performed below their capabilities. The Aggies will move on to next week and most likely be destroyed by San Jose State while BYU will regroup and play New Mexico stronger than any other team they have played this year. I have followed the Aggies for many years and have never been so embarrassed for their school and program. Instead of trying to compete against BYU with the color blue and yelling "over-rated" chants when you are losing by 20, perhaps USU should try to learn something from BYU. They may just learn about gaing class and earning respect from not only outsiders but their fans as well. Good Luck with your program Aggies.
Those ticky tack fouls were all deserved and I cheer for the Cougars. Those were mental mistakes.
BYU played very poorly for the last 3 quarters plain and simple. They left over 30 points on the field. Hopefully this serves as a wake up call and gets the Cougs fired up going into MWC play. USU hung in there. Their first team outplayed the Cougs for 3 quarters even though it was every bit as much very poor play by the Cougs. Nonetheless, I hope this is a springboard for the Ags to win 4 or 5 WAC games and start things moving in Logan.
Whatever. I haven't seen anything too impressive with the kwegs this whole season so far. Utah State showed well and played above their heads #115 ranking). Kwegs not able to stop speed or the long ball. Utes will take note for November. It will be a great day on the 22nd.
Lack of Class, ditching on fans for continued support to the final gun? So what if they were getting beat by 20, should they of all left the stadium to get home before the traffic? Is that what they do in Provo. Where I come from, thats called fair weather fans. And yes I realize most don't go to the other games. Did you think that maybe they wanted to see the #8 team in the nation, and maybe an upset. Do you think if #1 OK would of showed up they would of stayed home, think again. Get over yourself, BYU has something going and USU wanted to spoil it. Same will be said when you travel to every road game in conf, though considerably less talented, the fans will show up in hopes of knocking BYU or any other ranked team off the top of the hill.
I think the game on Friday could have helped a little bit. We should win two or three more games instead of one. Diondre Borel is the Aggies future, hopefully the cougs don't take him from us too. And BYU fans, if you think that was stupid for all of us standing up and cheering late in the game, you obviusly haven't been to aggie games for 3 straight years and lose every game.
USU has just been an embarassment for the last decade. They used to be competitive. Borel looked good, and there is speed. Maybe when JLS is coaching next year they'll rebound
The issue is that the Ags wouldn't be good in the Big Sky this year. It's about time to drop football for good and use the revenue from basketball to fund some more competetive sports teams. The stadium space would be better utilized for more buildings. Don't be too proud. There no shame in ducking out in order to save cash.
We don't think it's stupid you stand up and cheer in the 4th, it's what you cheer for that we think is stupid. Cheering overrated just because you score a TD is stupid.
You have to have some sympathy for the team. I've never seen so many confused players my entire time watching college football since I started in 2003. They were desperately trying to not get sacked, but to make a great play, and looked foolish many, many plays. The team is a joke. The only team in the WAC with a worse record is Idaho, USU's only win.
It was only my 3rd time watching USU play, and I thought it was their worst performance of all 3. I agree with most people that USU would do better in a lower division. Even Snow gets better recruits.
Listen up...Obviously Ricks College Utah(RCU) aka BYU is overrated. The USU fans were pretty much just stating the obvious. They were just doing it loudly. I can understand that the truth is difficult to hear.
USU is making a lot of progress with their football program. There are a lot of USU fans that have been saying nay throughout the entire rebuilding process, which is not helpful to the program, and I'm not sure what they hope to accomplish.
Dropping to IAA is a bad idea. It will be even more difficult to recruit, which will make it difficult for us to contend in that division. It is a downward spiral. There's something with this younger generation where they want to run away from every challenge they face. Suck it up. Support the team, they will get better.
To those saying that dropping football is a good idea:
Cotton: It appears that Average Joe's is forfeiting the final match.
Pepper: That's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.
Dropping football won't make basketball or anything else better.
Stop the naysaying. Go to the games. It will get better. Go Aggies!
