@ Bill Keshlear...interesting post... CNN and AP as non-partisan fact check organizations? only someone who gets their information from those sources would make such a silly comment.

I supposed you think that everything Ol' Joe said was gospel truth? Joe lied so many times he thinks he is telling the truth.

I'll just give you one....Global Warming is 100% man-made..that is a fact...Really?

Take your rose-colored glasses off Bill....but thanks for the laugh.

Well afterwards I thought her daughter would "drop the prop" oops, I mean the baby--where was dad--why was he not holding the "prop" oops the baby--

Wasilla Alaska is 1/2 the size of Richfield Utah--

Sounded like a Miss American Pagent to me--all fluff and no substance--some eye batting and winking at the judges--who does she think we are--

and I am a women--she does not represent me!

I didn't love Sarah. She sounded like she had memorized her statements.

To my Utah neighbors from your friend next door: Please wake up and see Palin for what she is--an opportunist who will say and do anything to get elected. Since the debate where she refused to answer most of the questions put to her, she is now quoted as saying that Obama pals around with terrorists and is no better than a terrorist. Incredible; the woman has no shame. I don't see Obama/Biden making personal character attacks at all; quite the contrary. But I see that the McCain/Palin playbook hasn't changed since the Republican primaries where McCain treated Mitt Romney like dirt. Go ahead and vote Republican again--support those that are in contempt of us as LDS; the Republican evangelicals want our votes but they think we're going to hell and they sure won't support any LDS for president. Sometimes I wonder about our capacity for self-hatred as manifested by the continuing voting patterns for those who despise us but want our votes. Until Utah wakes up and votes for a different party, things will not change and we'll continue to be taken for granted and remain the laughingstock of the nation.
Re:SP | 4:20 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
You're tired of all of the corruption and deception? So am I.

But did you already forget the Clinton years? Plenty of corruption to go around there.

Let's face it. There are good and bad people on both sides of the aisle. So, the question at hand is who do you trust now? McCain or Obama.

I'd have to go with McCain. And saying he will be the same as GW Bush is like saying Obama will be like Clinton or Carter. It's not a fair or accurate comparison for either candidate.

Looking back | 4:38 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
It's looking like we won't need to look back at double digit inflation or interest rates. More likely than not, they're on their way here. Either nominee has a tough road after the mess of the GWB administration. It's clear that the vp debate didn't change any minds. One side thinks the other lied, or was wrong (they did, or were, from either direction) and that their candidate was perfect. It's attitudes like this that got us in the mess we're in. No wonder our leaders are such morons, we let them be.

Joe won? | 4:51 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
In what contest, the ability to regurgitate Democratic accusations with no basis in fact? Or maybe the one where he/she who can't get historical facts right wins? How about the one where the winner contradicts his own statements made while campaigning? Come on Joe, you've been around long enough to know that the public hasn't got a short memory when it comes to politics. It's real cute when Obama/Biden are campaigning against GW, and he isn't even running. Cute, but not worthy of a valid candidate. Empty suit and wind bag, now there's a pair..

Oh, and you who keep telling us that we're dumb and stupid for not supporting your candidate, that's NOT the way to convince us otherwise. Just a hint there. You might just want to take that one to heart and quit shooting yourselves in the foot. Oh, that's right, you don't like guns either. No wonder you can't shoot straight!!

As another blogger in another media blog pointed out, that when Biden talked about the middle class, he referred to them as "they". When Palin talked about the middle class, she referred to them as "we".

Biden also had so many "misspeaks", he made himself very unconvincing.

Which do you think will represent the Average American better?
ScottM | 5:44 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Get ready for Reverend Wright (not to be confused with "Right", as in "correct") to have an influence in the White House. Not enough righteous people left in the US of A to elect the party who will refuse to support gay marriage, or abortion?
We are all in for a ride, and it may be "Change" but it won't be for the better.

44 year old mother | 7:13 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Like Gov. Palin, I was a 44 year old mother who chose life for my Downs baby. I am really tired of all the people who claim to respect a woman's "rights" and yet condemn THIS woman for having a career. What hypocrisy!
In fact, I chose homebirth for my Downs son--condemn me for my choice of where to deliver, too.
I chose alternative therapies for my baby, rather than send him off in a little bus for full-day "early intervention".
I chose homeschool for my son.
Lots of people criticized some or all of my choices, but they were MY choices, made in the best interests of my son and my family.
I am equally sure that Gov. Palin and her husband have carefully considered their choices, too.
As for her daughter being in the spotlight--it wasn't until Obama's supporters set up an internet campaign accusing Palin of pretending to be pregnant to cover up her daughter's pregnancy and saying that her DS baby was actually her daughter's that she even allowed the news of her daughter's pregnancy to become public.
I see a lot of hateful hypocriticy here!
Marie Devine | 8:00 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
I thought both Senator Biden and Governor Palin did well. certainly better than the bloggers were expecting. Neither party has real change for the people. We would still be working away from families, buying insurance, dealing with daily stress of child care, college tuition, sons in military, conflicts over abortion, marriages, and religion.

Rebuilding the military, building alliances to fight other people's wars, enticing more people to enlist and prepare for war, and giving better benefits is not change.

If we turned from our employment lifestyle that causes stress, pollution, disease, accidents, afflictions, wars and conflicts, we would not need universal health care, social services like welfare and pre-kindergarten child care.

Alliances would not be needed if we turned from our lifestyle of building military weapons, manufacturing, processing, and transporting food, goods, and people around the world to creating a garden paradise that supplies our needs in our communities.

Now we recognize we are going the wrong way and real freedom will only come when we make a complete turn in the opposite direction... a turn toward the wisdom of God where a garden paradise has all the riches we will ever need. Pray; the way is prepared before us.

One Question Please | 8:02 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Why is it that the state of Utah in the latest polls shows an overwhelming percentage of the people like McCain-Palin as compared to Obama-Biden? I mean the national percentages don't even come remotely close to Utah. As most of you know that watch any TV, Obama-Biden are many points ahead and it widens every day. To the question again Utah is way ahead of the republican national percentages for their party in their favor of McCain-Palin. What does that tell you about Utah?
One Answer | 8:14 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
What does that tell me about Utah?

That we think for ourselves!
Re One Answer | 8:21 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
That response is older than DIRT.
Matthew R | 8:33 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Beside Mitt Romney Pallin is the most qualified. I enthisiastically support her and some of the media should be ashamed. They should tell the facts and not make them up. Let us decide who won for we are the people. I sincerely hope McCain/Pallin win.
Igor | 8:33 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Utahns likely thought George W. Bush won the debates against Al Gore and John Kerry.
Another Answer | 8:39 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
It doesn't matter who the candidate is, the majority in Utah is going to vote Republican.

I think that Obama is going to win the election (He will not be getting my vote, but neither will McCain).

What would be interesting is that a 3rd party candidate were to win in Utah. The Republican Party assumes that they automatically get Utah's votes. Voting for a 3rd party candidate will not change the outcome of the election, Obama winning, but doing so might help voters across the country look outside the 2 party system in the next election.

We could show the country that we don't agree with Obama but we do not want 4 more years like the last 8.
Re One Question | 8:54 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
That in reality, the differences in economy, international affairs, the war etc are really minor differences. Both Parties believe about the same. Both want the troops out of Iraq, both want to lower taxes for the middle class. Both want to be diplomatic as opposed to war. Both want alternative choices of energy, Etc Etc Etc.
Utah realizes its more important to have people with character, sound minds and understanding of the common people in office. People who know right from wrong, know the right answers to basic moral delemas. Etc Etc Etc, The vote in Utah has nothing to do with party, it just so happens the republicans are conservative. IE like people in Utah. If democrats were pro family, against abortion, against gay marriage and others similar delemas, Utah would be abnormally pro democrtat.
who now? | 9:23 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
no to all running but we can vote on amendments I guess..
LOL | 9:24 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
oh Utah, so blind to truth..

the question is...would you...i mean RIGHT NOW would you vote for Palin for President? This diffence in poll numbers shows how out of touch with reality Utah is
What a laugh | 9:27 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
The same people who are criticizing Utahns for being stupid sheep are the ones who wonder why we don't vote in lockstep with states like New York and California.

We all vote our best interests. I really don't care how Barbara Streisand and George Clooney vote, much less what Europeans or the Middle East think. If they want to pay my taxes (much less stop being parasitic mooches), I'll listen to what they have to say.

Otherwise, I'll vote for who I want to vote for. There are two sides to every story. Why the intolerant liberals can't understand that is beyond me.
Charles | 9:29 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
@ One Question...your question is on the premise that you are on a higher plane than the rest of Utahns. That in and of itself is the biggest problem that many have with elitists who populate the Democrat Party.

You all think you are smarter, more intelligent, critical thinkers, free thinkers, etc than those who don't agree with your positions. Why are your positions any better than anyone elses?

A better question is why is the rest of the country so willing to go down the path of socialism with Obama/Biden instead of for personal freedoms and states rights? What does that say about the rest of the country?

@Igor...what does that say about your candidates um, who aren't in office right now....

Conservatives do think for themselves; they don't just tow the party line....Look at what the Democrats did to Lieberman for thinking differently on 1 issue; the other 99 times he voted with them....

Seems to me One Question that it is your kind that needs some introspection and different views.... Socialism has never worked anywhere....
John | 9:32 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008

Charles | 9:38 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
SP----still waiting for that awesome display of critical thinking and how we are all supposed to think like you....

Here's a question for you SP...if we all used our critical thinking skills and came to the same conclusion as you, wouldn't we all be the same? Oops, I mean...wouldn't we all be sheep?

Thanks for showing your critical thinking prowess....Palin wiped Biden all over the court. It wasn't even close. The question is why can't you see that your ticket is made up of professional liars who the MSM let's get away with it?

Biden= Global Warming is 100% man-made....one of the funniest lines of the night....are you going to defend that lie?
Kimley | 10:09 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Senator Palin was brilliant! She is a respected Governor and is very successful in her own right. As for Joe Biden, aren't there any rules for accuracy in a debate? Our family sat around and laughed and caught him in at least two outright lies. This guy is a liar and was caught in a plagiarizing scandal a few years ago. I follow politics closely and read alot about both candidates. As for Obama/Biden, BUYER BEWARE!! There are lots of red flags!!!
Carson | 10:22 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
I am amazed at those who feel like Governor Palin is not qualified to be president. What about Obama??? What qualifies him?? We ought to offer a $10,000 reward to any upstanding citizen who knew BO prior to 1994. Who knows him??? Who knows what he was doing for much of his life? No family or friends campaigning for him other than Michelle?????? At least we know where Biden, McCain and Palin have been and what they have been doing. BO scares me - he in an unknown quantity. The only associations he has are with scandalous people.
Go Sarah | 10:37 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
She is such a babe! And add her strong confidence level on top of that, woow I will vote for her any day. She has a very attractive smile not like that chipmunk Hilary.
Buyer Beware | 11:03 p.m. Oct. 4, 2008
Palin and McCain have been caught in outright lies several times in this campaign. Palin herself in the debate. That's amazing considering she said next to nothing specific. (Specifically, she lied when she said that the McCain "healthcare system" wouldn't cost tax payers)How come the other guy is always called a liar and your guy (gal) gets away with it free and clear? Two value systems can't be put on the two different parties. If it's not okay for one, it's not okay for another. Biden and Palin have the exact same stance on gay rights...hmmm...
McCain is a philandering hothead who changes his mind every 48 hours depending on the press he's getting. But he's the guy with values? Palin has an attractive smile, and is confident, so she should be elected to federal office? You people really are setting the bar too low.

I believe every American should vote, and vote for the people they believe will do the best job. My problem is that our system has not put anyone on the tickets I feel good about voting for. Sometimes we end up voting more against someone, than for someone. This time I don't want to vote for either. I agree with those who say Sara is a nice lady who might even make a decent Vice President. But with John's age, President Palin is a real possibility and that scares me to death. People make a big deal out of Barack's lack of experience but he has tons in comparison. I don't however want a president who looks down on many of the people of this nation because of his feelings of superiority. I sure wish there was a third viable choice because I would sure rather vote for them. Problem is, none of our national leaders, given our current financial dilema, and the manner they are dealing with it impress me much. Things however could be worse. I could be living in another country.
The Referee | 12:29 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I see a lot of bantering back and forth and neither side seems to listen to anything the other side says - they just want to make their argument and hope it will change some minds.

What's amazing to me is how many of you think putdowns are actually going to win someone over to your cause.

Everyone in our country is worried and/or angry about our situation. There's plenty of blame to go around.

We all want the same things - peace, prosperity, happiness. The big question ought to be where is the common ground? How can we work together to make things better? Both sides must make compromises. If not, we're in for real trouble.
usathink | 12:59 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
If you look at Obama's record it is very obvious that he does not have the character or the experience to perform the job he is running for. Palin has much more experience than he does. All you have to do is a little research. Please do not let the media make up your mind for you. The media and Obama think they are smarter then you are! Do you really agree?
usathink | 1:02 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Palin is the most qualified candidate running. She is the only one who has a record of attacking corruption in government successfully. Look it up!

Obama will say anything and do anything just to appeal to everyone. You all must be wary about his real intentions as revealed by the friends he associates with. Ayers. Wright. Rezko. The fact that he doesn't respect the most vulnerable life - the unborn babies - should be a sign to all of you that he doesn't care about the life you are living now. He is a sweet-talking deceiver. You are all falling into a trap. There is stil time ... Vote McCain/Palin.
SP--Demo Economy | 1:47 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
RE: @2:37

Yes it is unfortunate that Carter had to face double-digit interest rates during his administration. It was amazing what the Energy Crisis could do to our fragile economy. Were fortunate that he got the right man to fix the problem, not with a bandaid, but with a real economic turn-around solution that provided a genuine fix to the economy.

Im not following you on the dot com bubble. I cant find anything that attributes the spending habits of speculators with Clinton. Exactly how did Clinton cause this fiasco? Im just not finding it in my history sources. Even so, you seriously cant compare the dot com bubble to the situation we are in right now. I mean seriously, a few wealthy speculators over investing in a technology and eventually rights itself compared to being on the brink of complete financial meltdown.

It sounds like you may have lost money in the dot com bubble. Did Clinton force you to make your bad investments, or are you just going to blame him?

Oh, Charles, the Rush Limbaugh show claiming there was actually a global cooling instead of global warming was way back in February. It has long sense been refuted. Havent you heard?

The vast majority of all climate research clearly shows global temperatures rising, or is this just a smear campaign by us screaming liberals to discredit Bush and his agenda of environmental slaughter? Possibly Biden should have said, 98.7% man made. Would that have saved his honor?

(Sorry Charles. I spend my evenings with my family. You'll just have to wait your turn for a reply.)
Jackie | 3:07 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
I actually dont' think Sarah is a breath of fresh air like some people are saying. I think we want her to be, but she just isn't. She is actually reminding me of Bush how she is saying she doesn't like to cooperate with the media. But that is who she will talk through to the American people if voted VP.

It's just about honestly for me and I feel she isn't being honest. And a president to be, should be honest.
One thing that is bothering me is that she said she would cooperate with Alaska's inquiry into her firing an official from her office, but now that probe is trying to be blocked by lawyers.
If she doesn't have anything to hide, then she wouldn't need anyone blocking the inquiry.
It's just suspicious.
We need to know if she is engaged in unlawful activity before voting on her.
I also heard that by her approval Alaska charges women for rape kits. And that is just plain scary. Further victimizing the victim knowingly seems uncivil.
What do you all think?
Lynn | 5:39 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
This debate draws out so much hypocrisy in people. We hear so much about Palin's lack of experience and I ask myself why I haven't heard this about Obama, about Bill Clinton (who incidentally according to Dick Morris didn't know a thing about foreign policy and was totally propped up by a support staff during his debates). Is this any different?
The problem that Sarah presents to the media is that she is not the typical woman in politics - she is nothing like Hillary. There is such an obsession to go out and get her by whatever means they can. It was so obvious in Charlie Gibson's interview. I lost my entire respect for Charlie for his condescending, peek over the spectacles, and that question about the Bush Doctrine -- Charlie didn't even know what it was himself....
Eldora | 6:29 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Cougar,

How can she keep within the constitution. She hasn't a clue about constitutional law or any other issue that is important in the lower 48.

If you take the time to read about Sarah you will learn that she has little regard for the truth and is RUTHLESS.

She is not a breath of fresh air. She has the stench of cronyism and me-first politics.
Chip | 6:34 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
The Presidential and VP debates have served a great purpose for me. I don't want any of them. For the first time I am going to look else where. I can't in good faith vote for the establishment any longer.
Jeannette Giles | 8:15 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
Palin stuck to the issues she felt would allow her to prove her standards, government on the side of the people, being tolerant of alternative life styles but supporting traditional marriage, using our own resources instead of importing them, working toward improved education through teacher pay and less government control over education. Biden was very clear on his support of socialistic government and moving away from capitalistic standards. The government is not the answer to everything and although Bush has made some errors, place the blame where it belongs, in the Congress and if you can't see that then look at the illegal bill that just passed congress after failing in the house, check out the constitution on legislating bills, amending bills that have failed in one house, etc. Want more of this keep those liberals in there, like Biden who have lived off the citizens for his whole life and afterwards will reap not only pay for life, but rewards as a public speaker, author, etc, hmmm, wonder if his socialistic attitude will change when he finds it is capitalism that will keep him in his lifestyle.
rkgg | 8:29 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
The debate showed some points from both candidates, however, the issue is what philosphy do we as a country need to support? One that allows partial bith abortions, check out Dan Federosco's research on this subject, what about the socialistic move that we are so deep into now that capitalism is on the way to extinction, how can the government who is irresponsible in accounting for the trillions of dollars it alots to various entities, like the wooden arrow factory, actually keep our country from imploding? What about the congress ingnoring the procedure for legislation? The government cannot be the answer to the citizen's choices, nor can it be counted on for accountable business practices, those are just a few of the issues and unless we address them with our votes, both in this election and in the upcoming congressional elections then we must look forward to living in a socialistic state where the people will be in bondage to the government until we cannot produce the funds necessary to fill their greedy coffers, then we will be cast out as undesireables. Vote your conscience, vote for the future of your families. Vote knowledgeable
People: Think This Over | 9:45 a.m. Oct. 5, 2008
and you will realize that neither major party is going to do a thing for any of us. Really.

Palin is just going to sit on deck while the less-educated faction of the country hopes that McCain kicks the bucket. If she were to become president, she'd be even more ignorant and dependent on everyone around her than Bush. If anyone can tell me how she is going to provide anything more than good press for McCain, Id like to hear about it yesterday.

The (federal level) Democrats are the same socialists in sheep's clothing they have always been. 'Nuff said.

Do we want to blow our money on foreign military exercises and bailouts of greedy CEO's who are completely out of touch and too good for most of us? Vote "R."

Do we want to create an overtaxed nightmare of mismanaged, porked up social programs of massive proportion that can only be handled in true DC fashion? Vote "D."

Both parties are currently doing nothing more than trying to push all the right, folksy, grass-roots buttons so that they can win elections and live out their power-trip fantasies on our dime.

Vote for anyone but "R" or "D"
