Let's see - the refs bailed out the Utes... BYU Fans - you are why I will
never send my kids to that school. I want them to have an education. Simple
addition and subtraction will let you know the Refs didn't bail the Utes
out.
Utah scores a late TD - score OSU 28 - Utah 26. Utah goes for a two point conversion and succeeds - score OSU 28 - Utah 28. Just consider if Utah does not get the so called "bail out" from the Ref. Score - OSU 28 - Utah 26.
Mr. Sakoda still kicks a game winning field goal as time expires. Score - OSU 28 - Utah 29. Let me show you how this works.

Once again, I have to read about the Democrats found watching the debates amid
the beer bottles and pool tables, so that you can portray us as demons and
non-Christians, when the truth is, I was among the Young Republicans when I was
a BYU student and met Mike Reagan when campaigning for his dad. I am still a
Christian living in the state of GEORGIA. I think it is grossly unfair for you
to portray Democrats in the way you did in your article and allow it to sway the
minds of the readers. None of our Democrat friends drink. We watched from our
living room and I was drinking WATER. My EAGLE SCOUT son howled as we watched
the vacuous Palin dodge the questions. You should be ashamed. Is the church for
all people OR JUST THE REPUBLICANS? By the way, we did not even have a deficit
under Clinton. This current president hasn't gotten anything right and he
has turned the world against us.

How could they want someone like THEM in office? Folksy and cute? That's
what it takes to be VP? I don't want to live in a country when any dumb
hick out of a backwoods town can jump on the national stage and get at least 50%
approval because of a defunct zealot/redneck base. The country that has some
sense left should be shaking their head right now. How hard is it to see that
she is vapid and empty throughout? She would wreck havoc on this nation...
unless it really takes nothing but non sensical colloquialisms?! This is coming
from a republican! I am fed up with my darn PARTY!

Utah is full of conservatives, the real party to look at is the Constitution
Party. They want to do all the things the Republicans pretend to want to do, but
can't as they are too busy taking way our rights and helping their rich
friends.
Chuck Baldwin will not be at any the the debates, as he is running for President on the Constitution Party ticket. He is the last hope for America this election. I fear that if either of the 2 major parties get in the White House the promises made in the Book of Mormon will start to come to pass, we need a Captain Moroni, and this Baptist is the closest thing we've got. Please, look into the Constitution Party before we loose more of our rights and our freedoms.

The republicans were watching the approved fox network. How did it slip by the
writer not to mention what network the intoxicated evil democrats were watching?
I like the palin bingo idea, kind of a take off on the 'smurf' game I
saw played years ago in university. Go Obama/Biden.

I must eat my words, because Palin was so bestest ever! She repeated the
�blame game� catchphrase used whenever
anybody points out that George W. Bush is the worst president in history and
that John McCain intends to follow up with round three. BTW,
I�m going to go rob a bank, and when the judge tries to
sentence me, I�m gonna tell him not to play the blame game,
and look toward the future like me! Sarah Palin managed to successfully read all
her cue-cards without crying, so me go be happy now. GO SARAH YOU ROCK

I agree, the depiction of Democrats at a bar seemed rather gratuitous.
I must however take issue with the Clinton deficit comment, which struck me as equally gratuitous. This was only true in 1999 and 2000 (first year of GWB's presidency), for Clinton's other 7 years there was indeed a deficit. And the years 1999-2000 were in the midst of the dot-com market bubble, which as we discovered in 2001 (and as we have again seen so poignantly with the housing bubble) is an artificial market boom that cannot be sustained.
In short, Clinton was lucky the bubble didn't pop until after he was gone. Balancing a budget over an extended period of time that will sustain market downturns requires much more discipline than Clinton (or, to be fair, Bush) showed.

In reply to Terri Bailey Alsobrook - the group that meet at the bar are not all
democrats and we are in no way connected to the Democratic Party. The group who
hosted the watch party is called Drinking Liberally - it is a group focused on
bringing like minded people together to discuss politics in a comfortable
atmosphere.
You are absolutely correct that many democrats do not drink and are strong in their religious beliefs. In fact, we do have several members of our Drinking Liberally group who are of the LDS/Mormon faith. When they join us, they have a water or a soda. They do not care about the drinking piece but they do tend to align themselves with a more progressive standpoint. They enjoy the intellectual conversations we have each week at our meetups.

I do have to chime in about the differences the author pointed out between the
democrats and republicans respectively watching the debate. What a horrible
propitiation of the untrue stereotype about politics in Utah. Was this really
the best you could do, DesNews? While the stereotype may seem true, I (a Utah
Democrat) watched the debate at home, in front of the television sipping ice
water. In fact, I will sit in front of that same television this weekend at
watch General Conference. Give me a break! Not all Democrats are sinners and
get drunk while making fun of unintelligent Republicans.
That being said, I'm glad Palin stopped the bleeding from the Katie Couric interviews. She memorized her lines well for this debate. Biden, however, proved infinitely more capable and prepared to be one 'heartbeat' away from the presidency.

I think Palin will step aside and allow Mitt Romney to run for V.P. because when
she was put in the economy wasn't collapsing and she loves our country and
has baggage from Alaska.We need Romney to fix this mess.Do you think this is

How is stating facts being biases? There were 80 Democrats (actually, not all
were democrats. That is just an error, not bias. However, the same comment could
be made about the authors line regarding Republicans. Are they all republicans?)

did raise their glasses cheer when Palin paused after a Biden response. That is
stating the facts. There is no bias in that statement.
Now, bias would be if the Des News said the group cheered because it was obvious Palin had no idea what to say because she wasn't spoon fed that talking point prior to the debate. That is bias.

CNN was the station we watched the debate on. The reporter who showed up at our
event did not have one drink. Notice how there were two reporters on this
article? One showed up at each event.
What is interesting is that the reporter who attended the Republican watch party felt it news worthy to report what station was being watch. Could it be because it is so typical of Republicans to accept Fox as "fair and balanced" reporting? That piece of information is not newsworthy - it was the same "show" regardless of the channel. That piece of information was probably in there for comical reasons only.

Senator Biden went back to Obama talking points MANY times including Bush, Bush, Bush, etc. Sarah successfully countered with McCain-the-maveric ways of getting the country back to the people and making it safer from crime and terror.
Governor Palin was STRONG on energy, gas prices and taxes. She convinced me that she has done much already while Biden has talked and spent.
Democrats were responsible for oversite the last many years of financial misdeeds and Sarah, unfortunately, didn't lay that blame where is should be placed.
Palin won this one even though Biden went first and then had the last word.
