What a dumb place to store ash! | 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1, 2008
This site borders Utah Trust Land. That's my land as a taxpayer. I don't think our trust land will appreciate with a toxic ash dump a rocks throw away. What happens when the trucks haul that stuff in the winter on icy roads and the truck wrecks with hazardous material spewed all over Hwy 24?
Nope, nope don't store ash there. Take it to Emery County where they're set up to store hazardous material because you know what doesn't come out of the stack stays in the ash and that stuff is dangerous.

Thanks to those who sent the letter. If Sevier Power only has an option to purchase the land, why are they even talking about this?

The laws clearly state that a party must *own* the title to the land before bringing the matter to the County Planning commission or County Commission. Sevier Power lied to the planning commission before, saying they owned the land for the plant, and then only purchased portions of it after the media started asking questions.

Deseret News, will you **please** look into this Sevier County officials simply ignoring the law and the public's safety in order to benefit their buddies at Sevier Power?

I am in favor of the power plant, but the location of the fly ask disposal area should be discussed further. What are alternative sites? How far from the plant would they be? If an alternate dump site is not far away, I may be for it.

Why do they need a disposal area for a valuable commodity? They need a processing plant to prepare the fly ash for resale. Components if fly ash can be used in concrete, and several manufacturing uses.

I noticed Sevier Power Company's application to change the water from irrigation to power generation is in the name of TDA Foundation and David & Karen Dastrup? Wonder why they hide under different names to accomplish their goals?

This site for ash disposal is like everything else they have done - under the table and just plain stupid!

The state wildlife people must wonder what's up with flyash in the base of the Boobe Hole Mountain right along with the comment made about the state Trust Land people.

To build a processing plant for flyash, would take a long permitting process, cost more than the value of the ash. Transportation costs enters into the site selected, why not utilize the cars that bring the coal in, if it is from Emery county to take it back to the east carbon land fill?
Otherwise shut the plant down, who needs it?

There is no doubt that the nation needs to find more ways to produce power. My take on the Sevier Power Company proposal is that when it was first proposed, Commissioner Mason announced it as an economic "saviour" for the county. After the populace became more educated about the idea, the location of the proposed site in Sigurd became a HUGE liability. The idea of a power plant near coal production makes sense, but not in a tiny valley ringed by mountains where winter inversions will trap bad air 24/7.

As for the ash dump?? In the headwaters of Otter Creek and potable water supply for Salina City?? Are they serious?? The rhetoric on this lemon has descended to a new low and those who are convinced that this IS a good idea for the county are intolerant of any divergent views or rational discussion on the merits.

I applaud those who are giving Sevier Power Company some deserved opposition. Their industry is attempting lots of permits before things change in Washington.

Do we really want the Sevier County Commisioner responsible for this plant in the Senate? Vote Tobiah Dillon (D) or Benton Peterson (C) instead!

I think building a power plant is a good idea. Do all the people think that we should wear gas masks around so we don't inhale the smoke. Nobody is even saying that the power plant will deliever enough power for 187,500 homes.
Where are we suppost to work? | 8:50 a.m. Oct. 7, 2008
People with jobs @ sufco coal mine will loose their jobs! Where in the world are we suppost to work?

If you would like a job base, why not begin production of renewable energy equipment. It will pay more and will be far superior to installing technologies based on the past with continued degradation to the welfare and health of plant and animal life, including human life.
