So i guess we are going to go into the luxury tax thershold after all. But it looks like meo will probably opt out next season as well from the way the article was talking
Moto X | 2:02 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Actually I think it will be Memo who stays and Boozer who opts and does not re-sign.

LHM has said he generally does not intend to go into luxury tax territory. The only words I have heard him use to parse that is that he said "if we felt like a move was pretty much certain to put us in a position to win a championship, I would strongly consider it". That presents a small window of opportunity.

Does anyone really feel dumping a max contract into an undersized power forward will result in an NBA championship? That what I thought.
Kim | 2:20 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Why Boozer??? I thought we were serious about successful post-season play...

Bring out the Auto Dealerships... I'm sure Larry and Greg can get a street named after Boozer and Okur...there are still two more streets without basketball names around the ESA.

How about Trey-City Cadillac for Okur and Boozer's Benz...

I kinda like the sound of that...
the midas touch | 2:42 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Like Larry isn't making $ hand over fist @ his dealerships. He's just too cheap or scared to go at the problem like Daniel Snyder used to or Steinbrenner will always do.

Seriously, who cares? It's football season.

Jazz fan | 3:17 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
I agree, I don't think Boozer is planning on staying with the Jazz, I honestly I hope not too. I'd rather develop Millsap, AK or one of our rookies at that position. After the past few playoff seasons does anyone really think Boozer can help us get to a championship? D Will is the focus now and NOT Boozer, let him walk to Miami or LA or trade him.
RE: Midas Touch | 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
And exactly where has Steinbrenner's method got him recently? All his going after the "problem" has done is cost him tons of Cash. All his big money Free agents and "blockbuster deals" have brought him is a bill for hundreds of millions of dollars. How many titles does he have to show for Giambi? Damon? A-Rod? Abreu? Sheffield? Funny thing is they were more successful before this recent string of out of control spending started.

Dave | 3:44 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Boozer would be smart to extend, otherwise after another decent offensive season where he cares only about his stats, and another embarrasing defensive performance that ends up killing the Jazz in the postseason the other NBA execs will see his market value is incredibly inflated. Boozer is a prime example of a prima donna pro player who cares about himself first, second, and third and doesn't come close to earning what he is paid.
JoJo | 4:05 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Keep in mind that the Jazz have the Knicks pick after next season. After the havoc that Isiah created in NYC, that looks to be a very good pick which will require some cash down the road too. I think that that pick will be the big man that DWill will win his championships with (before you get your panties in a bunch, it is just a hunch and I realize that the Knicks could turn things around and the pick could end up sucking, etc. But I think that pick is the answer to the big man dilema).

Trade Boozer now because he will opt out and he will walk. Memo will re-sign but Boozer will not. Millsap, who I love, will never be as good as Boozer is. He too is undersized and if he had to score consistently, his boards and D would drop off.

By the way, the Yankees just missed the post season for the first time in 13 years and during that 13 years they won 6 AL championships and 4 World Series. Of course the Yankees are in the biggest market and have the cash to do that. Not too bad.

None of the players are worth what they are paid!!!!!
Trent | 4:57 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Trade Boozer and give Millsap a big raise.
Fedor | 5:17 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
I love Millsap, but you SAPS who are claiming he could take Boozer's place are high. If we can deal Boozer for equal value.....which is very difficult to do in this league....then do it. Otherwise, throw the bank at him....even if it costs us resigning Okur. He needs some defensive improvement....but guys like Boozer don't come around often.
Memo to Memo | 6:32 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Market value here
Re:Fedor | 7:09 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Amen. Is Boozer Malone, No. He doesn't play defense as good as any of us would like. But the guy is still a force and when at the top of his game can, along with DW, lead us to a ring. Look what he was able to do when he was on during the Laker series. The one game where he was clicking on all cylindars resulted in a win and he won the MVP of the game. We need Boozer and as much as I love Millsap he is still not up to Boozer's level. Just wish the Jazz would employ Malone to come back and coach Boozer regarding defense much the same way as Horny is coaching AK and Stockton coached DW during his rookie year. If Boozer improved his defensive skills and put on a few more pounds of muscle the guy would be the top NBA power forward. Remember, he was on the Olympic team, only 2-3 power forwards in the entire NBA were invited to be on that team and he was one of them.

This team this year has a chance to win it all. I believe they can do it.

Go Jazz.
Ken | 7:16 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Ditto what Fedor said. Letting Boozer leave would be foolish! Not many 20 and 10 guys out there. Boozer and Williams are both very young, and with a little patience, they may deliver to SLC what Stockton to Malone never could -- a championship!
Hollywood | 7:29 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
If, If, If...
That's exactly what you DON'T want to hear in your analysis of a MAX money player.

If Ostertag had showed up more than 1 out of every 5 games, Malone and Stockton would have rings. If AK still gave 100% effort, the Jazz would win 60 games.

Let Booz play w/o an extension. It's a contract year, so maybe he really does try to play defense and doesn't disappear against the Lakers.

More than likely, Booz becomes the next AK. He gets his MAX money and decides his game is good enough. Personally, I hope he leaves for Miami. That solves the luxury tax problem and then you can plug in Millsap, Memo and AK at the 4. Playing AK some at the 4 also opens up minutes for CJ (or Brewer) at the 3.

Sayonara, Carlos!
Tooele Jazz | 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Boozer is gone after this season. The writing is on the wall. He wants more 'off court' life - the kind he can't have in LAME UTAH. He's more of an East Coast guy or an L.A. guy.
Come on!!! | 9:05 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
It's all the Unions fault that these people are overpaid!!!

Wait, isn't the the board where we talk about the state budget, and teacher's salary???

Nevermind...
RE: Ken | 9:06 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
If malone couldn't do it,

Your kidding yourdelf if think boozer can.

He can't.

Let him go.

Change system and get away from centering the offense around a power forward it doesn't work unless they are 7 foor tall and PLAY DEFENSE and are surrounded with GREAT shooters like ray allen, paul pierce, manu genobili.

Does any of that sound like the jazz? NO!
BOOZERRR FAN | 9:41 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
YOU people kill me, by the time the playoffs come around will be singing the BOOZER IS THE BEST song, boozer this boozer that. He will be a bettter producer this year after his time with team USA, big bucks are on the line and he will more than deliver and you will cry when he leaves. You are the same people who were wanting AK out etc.
boozer the loser | 9:40 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
i dont get why boozer has so much quickness on offense but on defense he looks like he has concrete feet. to me he just doesnt care about winning. last series agains the lakers we played better when boozer wasnt in the game letting weakling gasol walk to the rim and turning the ball over 4 times a game. i hope he leaves, so like it has been said earlier we can develop ak at the 4 and give money to memo and mill tank. the jazz will be better off with out him. remember that there are going to be some good power forwards entering free agency next summer and the summer after. as long a d will is here we will contend and he alone will attract good players to utah. lets go jazz, we can do it. J, A, Z, Z, JAZZ, JAZZ, JAZZ!
LHM | 9:41 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
If you "Booze", you "Lose".

Plays hard and then disappears.

Haven't we seen this before?

At least worth $120,000,000 over 4 years.

What a steal!
pay back | 9:49 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
boozer shouldn't opt out of his contract. he needs to work under his current deal as a way of paying back to the jazz for the two years that he got paid a whole lot of money for doing nothing. i think that would be admirable. i know that doesn't happen with pro athletes, but boy would it be great to see. he would still get his riches the next year, but unfortunately it wouldn't happen.
Adam | 10:25 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Doesn't matter what you people want Boozer is not staying after this season. He will go to Miami for a max deal. He lives there in the offseason, is friends with the Heat owner, and they have said they want him and Boozer isn't denying it. He won't even negotiate with the Jazz for an extension now because he doesn't want one. His defense is terrible, and with AK's sickeningly huge contract they can't afford 3 max players...(AK, D-Will, and Boozer wants a max deal) Okur will stay, who knows what Kyle Korver is thinking he can opt out after next year to. You can't trade Boozer either because the rest of the league knows he's going to MIAMI to. But the NY draft pick will help the Jazz as long as they stay crappy. Cheer for the Jazz to win and the Knicks to stink for 2 years....

RE: Midas Touch | 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008

Unlike Charlie Eppes, I am not a math prodigy but will go out on a limb and say more than the jazz.

If memory serves Boozer has a house in Miami and the Heat are missing an inside presence now that Shaq is in Phoenix.
Jimmy Z | 11:18 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
I dont care who we sign, but please lets get a new
coach. I am ready for a change in the Utah Jazz
style of play.So predictable. If not for the
young Deron Williams, the shooting of Okur, and
the all around hustle of AK, I would be totally
bored. Come on MIllers let s make that change soon
GR | 11:57 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Boozer's gone after this year. Bank on it. The Jazz should trade him if they can for a #1 pick and another player, especially if he's having a good year. Connor should realize that as soon as possible. Remember what Boozer did with the Cleveland management? He lacks honor and wants the bigger bucks, as if 10 million plus a year is not enough for him. Such selfishness.
Jazzfan01 | 12:21 p.m. Oct. 1, 2008
I'll give it to ya....Boozer is a great player and we should re-sign him in the off season, but he needs to step it up in the playoffs...He is consistant in the regular season, but when it comes to the playoffs it seems he forgets how to play ball...with players like williams boozer memo ak and the entire roster we have now a ring is in the future...LHM should be smart about this one and re-sign Boozer and Memo without a doubt!
Memory serves | 3:46 p.m. Oct. 1, 2008
Put this in your book of memories. Boozer also has a house in Salt Lake........So What?.......
