Nationwide by Metro Networks will affect the Salt Lake market

OHHHHHHHHHHHH YOU WILL NOTICE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR TRAFFIC REPORTS IF THEY CLOSE THE SALT LAKE OFFICE AND THEY CONSOLIDATE WITH ANOTHER OFFICE OUT OF STATE. YOU WILL HAVE YOUR LOCAL TRAFFIC BEING DONE BY PEOPLE IN ANOTHER STATE WHO DON'T KNOW THE STREETS OR THE AREAS.

Great. More consolidation, more phoned-in reports by out-of-towners who don't really know the local area and can't build trust or otherwise truly connect with their listeners.

The only real advantage terrestrial radio has over most newer forms of media is its localism. Sacrificing that one unique selling point in pursuit of short-term profits is akin to killing the proverbial golden-egg-laying goose. The Wall Street ownership model, with its emphasis on quarterly results above all else, simply does not work for radio.

When will those in charge of terrestrial radio realize their only real advantage anymore is localism? To sacrifice that in pursuit of short-term profits is to kill the proverbial golden-egg-laying goose. The Wall Street ownership model, with its emphasis on quarterly results to the exclusion of all else, just does not work for radio.
