Go Beavers | 8:39 a.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Utah has a great squad. Being a West Coaster, I have come to admire your team and the coaching staff. In reading this board, it is refreshing to see good, educated, respectful college football fans, unlike the one's we encounter at the Univ of Oregon (they are arrogant, ignorant, and obnoxious). My one beef with people's talk is that OSU will not adjust, altitude, blah, blah, blah. Our team (like yours) is notoriously good prepping for the 'big games.' Our two programs win all bowl games they play in and we have knocked off 7 ranked teams (3 teams in the top 3) the last couple years. Preparation is not a problem and one thing going our direction is we have 7 full days to recover....Utah has about 4.5 days. You cannot discount that. I am a little disappointed to see OSU as 12 point underdogs...think the game will be closer than that. Whoever wins, it will be a 3-7 point game. If you play like you did last week against Weber State, then it's the Beavers all the way. Good luck to both teams!
Re: Wow | 9:47 a.m. Sept. 30, 2008
I concur with the other poster. I have no problem with BYU fans talking up their team. But remember, the reason why you see so many Ute fans talking up their team is because you are in a Ute forum. What else do you expect? Unless you were talking about Ute fans in general I have no idea why you're complaining about Ute fans boasting in their own forum. Along those same lines, of course Ute fans don't want to hear BYU rhetoric. Once again, this is a Ute forum, it's natural most Ute fans want to hear from their fellow fans not their rivals' exasperating statistics and trash-talking jabs. Sure, this goes both ways (Ute fans in BYU forums,) but since we all know that, why complain about it?

I think the same post could be made to Utah fans from BYU fans.

I agree with you, "There are some fans on both sides that actually think before typing."

Of course the same could be said!!! I do want to say that I do visit BYU articles and I read the comments...after a game. I've congratulated the Cougars on big wins. Two shutouts in two weeks is no small feat to say the least. The Cougars are very impressive this year and I have no trouble admitting it. But what I hate is when a fan on either side goes to the other article and starts bashing the other team. This is a rivalry, not pre-school. Fans on both sides to show respect and grow up. I am a die hard Utah fan. I do not like BYU at all, but I will give props where props is due, and right now BYU football deserves a lot of props, whether some Utah fans admit it or not.

I just wanted to come on here and say I was wrong. Last week I posted that it looked to me like both BYU and Utah were facing the same caliber of opponent that upcoming weekend.

Judging by the pollsters, however, I am forced to admit I was wrong. BYU actually faced the more impressive opponent. How else to explain BYU jumping more places in the polls after staring down BYE, than Utah gaining after tiptoe-ing Waltzing Matilda with Weber State?

I'm impressed that Utah appears to be getting a lot of love from the inanimate computers, while those that actually watch games and know college football continue to rank the Cougars a lot higher that Utah. We should check with the engineering geeks at both schools and ask them to provide us with their slide-rule analysis. I'm sure that would favor the Utes, too.

I love it how Ute fans keep pumping up UNLV -- presumably to explain why they were tied with them at home at halftime. Congrats to UNLV for knocking off ASU. But UNLV is still dogmeat. Just because some teams' SEC-style speed defenses dive at Frank Summers' ankles doesn't mean all teams will.
Sheesh ...relax Everyone. | 12:42 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
All this hate and psuedo intelligence and "we did this and you did this" crap. Some of these blogs are making me sick. Here is the skinny. I doesn't matter the team and who they have beaten in the past...any team can beat any other team nowadays given certain circumstances.

Aggies may beat BYU...Ole miss beat Florida, Appalachian beat Michigan, OSU beat USC. OSU may destroy Utah. UNLV slaughtered Utah last year then stunk it up. The score at the end of the game is the only solid factor as to the win...nothing else matters.

Also...Lou Holtz gave some good props to the MWC last Saturday and specifically mentioned BYU and UTAH. How nice is that to have a legend like Holtz reffering in a positive way to BYU and UTAH as serious teams...as opposed to them being called "Bo diddly tech".

UTAH and BYU have increased the exposure to the MWC and specifically to their programs...now they have to keep on winning and get "College Game Day" at RES on Nov 22- just like 2004...it is good for both teams in so many ways.

REF:Sheesh......relax Everyone
Not a dig...so you don't need to re ref this comment. Nice to see Lou Holtz come back to his senses. I can understand how... when your own son's team is skyrocketed from nowhere to #14 after the 2nd wk, might bias the impact of a Pac 10 excessive celebration penalty and cause you to to say things in the heat of the moment with rankings on the line. So let's just say all's forgiven....at least Lou is addressing the issue....that's far more than a certain other who addressed the Washington incident is doing.
Interesting | 3:56 p.m. Sept. 30, 2008
Wow, until the post by Schedule Watcher I thought maybe people were seeing things the same way and deciding to grow up and not bash the other team on their article. It makes me wonder, how many people are obsessed with the team they hate? Seems they hate the other team more than they love their own. I think some "fans" are suffering from a case of identity crisis.

Veddy Intahesting, Interesting ...

Why in the world would you expect people to see things the same way?

I didn't see Schedule Watcher's post as a bash on Utah. I saw it more as a commentary on how different people perceive the polls.

I mean, BYU is clearly the higher-ranked team in the main polls. Ute fans are bringing up all these other computer polls that have them ranked higher. Who is one to believe?

Then you have BYU jumping more places in the AP and coaches polls after a bye -- than Utah was able to move after a win over Weber State. So, which school benefited more from playing or not playing last weekend?

And you've got to see the irony of Utah fans pointing to UNLV as part of their argument for having played the tougher schedule.

Geez, if fans of the schools can't have a little fun at the others' expense during this, the season of all seasons, then I'd be a little worried.

Lighten up, dude and have some fun with it all.

I will be at the game with family on Thursday. Looking forward to some very nice football. The Beavers played an absolute "boom goes the dynamite" of a game last week, a let down is sure possible, but if we play the way we did last week... look out.

Take it easy Ute fan, see you soon.

"undermine". You're joking, right? How do you figure? Haha. Typical of you people. LOL!! It's tough for you people to actually refute what was posted, so you mistakenly believe you can find fault w/a post? Nice try. The post was entirely accurate, including the "BTW" portion. Again, nice try.
