My Poll gives McCain the edge by a lot...
Debate watcher | 12:20 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Why wouldn't McCain ever look at Obama? It reminded me of a courtroom where the victim's family gets to confront the murderer who just sits looking straight forward. I particularly liked to watch the split screen views of McCain while Obama spoke. McCain didn't handle himself well at all. Perhaps it was a conscious effort to keep McCain from flying off the handle. Anyway, I agree with the majority of Americans. Obama won this one. And this, despite that fact that Obama needs to search for the right words, while McCain speaks as though he's reading from a script.

Has anyone seen the latest McCain ad showing all the times Obama said he agreed with McCain? This is one of the things that frustrates me with the McCain campaign. Isn't it natural that the two candidates will agree on several points? It seems dishonest to clip together a handful of statements to suggest that Obama doesn't have his own views. I smell Rove behind it.

I not sure how they pick those they call. I thought that Obama did an adequate job. McCain by a landside. I get so tired of these people that go around and say the majority of Americans do this or that. Anyone can weight a poll this way or that depending on how they want it come out. Talk about being dishonest suggesting that a majority of Americans agree that Obama won the debate. I would like to see the media for once be honest with themselves and provide balanced reporting

The small polls are small. But, Drudge is repporting 68% for McCain with about 375,000 responses. Those are voters. McCain clearly won on content, Obama did better in style and delivery.

Here's Hoping | 12:51 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I have faith in Obama and his abilities, and my faith is strengthened when he when has a good showing like this. I wish I had as much faith in the American people, however. But Bush got two terms, so I'm trying not to get my hopes too high that we'll make the right choice. If McCain wins, I think I'll look at the real estate market in Canada or Europe. No doubt both are better than here anyway.
Hi:-) | 1:01 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Go Obama!!!Go!!!Maybe Americans do care about there country and are smart and can think for themselves!!!

Pete... "your poll" also has a sample size of 1, and an error margin of 100%.

don't let the door hit you on the way out!

/and when Europe and Canada get tired of you,
please don't come back.

Drudge Report hardly unbiased | 1:28 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
How scientific was the Drudge Report? Consider: It is a poll on his webpage that is going to be visited primarily by hardcore Republicans.

A blind sampling of 100 Americans will more closely represent the views of voters than the Drudge Report's 363,000 Republicans.
bluegreengirl | 1:33 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
What is wrong with poor old McCain? Jim asked them to talk to each other and Obama tried. McCain looked angry and constipated. I find funny McCain's Country First sham. The "country" is made of people, all kinds of people, middle class, poor and some rich, some gay, many non christians, and so on. The republicans only care about a portion of the country, Obama will win because he will represent the majority of this DIVERSE beautiful country. And he will know how to work for them and with them and LOOK at them!
NY | 1:39 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I can't imagine that anybody would actually change their opinion about either candidate based on these so-called "debates". Do we want a president or a debater? Do we want a leader or a public speaker? While it may be the case that a good president may also be a good debater and a good speaker, to make a such an important decision based on such fluff is ridiculous. Nobody "won" the debate. It was just the same campaign rhetoric we have been hearing for months (though I have to confess I was impressed that Obama was able to put two sentences together without a teleprompter)
Obama in 08 Osama in 09 | 1:38 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
As a business owner, I can't afford Obama. It's tough to make a profit as it is.
I don't trust this guy. i think he will say anything to get himself elected. I fear that once he is in power it will be time to pay back all far left buddies.
An Obama led nation scares me. Morality, defense, small business profitability, and possibly a black agenda are all concerns of mine.
I love America and I am so concerned with all the troubles we are facing. I think we can pull ourselves back up with tapping into our energy resources, therefor stimulating our economy. Drill baby drill.
I feel like McCain is better for our nations future.
Paul Gibbs | 1:41 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
If making sense, being coherent, presenting sound ideas and coming across as in touch with reality are standards by which we judge, Obama not only won, he mopped the floor with McCain.
To Here's Hoping | 1:47 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
"If McCain wins, I think I'll look at real estate in Canada or Europe." Please do that if McCain wins or doesn't win, because you are obviously not grateful for all the benefits of living in America. That is what makes this country great, is that every person can vote.
Jared | 1:53 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
The problem with this poll was that there were more Democrats than Republicans in it. CNN pointed that out in their description of it. That means that the results really are not meaningful because it was a poorly-selected sample.
Paul Gibbs | 1:53 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
McCain only one on content if you really care which candidate is closer friends with Henry Kissinger. It was the only time he came close to make a point all night. Many polls from many sources, all voters, have been taken, and the vast majority say Obama won. Only those who want to believe McCain's medeval message believe he won.
McCain/Obama | 2:02 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Clearly Obama was skirting around the topics and never gave any solid answers, just fluff. McCain held himself direct and to the point, like a real leader. Besides, Most voters for McCain were at home tending to their families and couldn't participate in the even. Most liberal college students have no families or responsibilities and could attend, therefore they could participate.

I can't wait until this is over with so Obama can go back into hiding.
Maggie | 2:06 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
The drudge poll is fake - phony numbers. Not a good one to refer to at all no matter whose side your on. Maybe if you keep looking...
the bitter truth | 2:04 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
The bitter truth is that John McCain is a 72 year old with cancer, and he has chosen bimbo Sarah Palin to take over the country if he gets sick. As a physician, I can testify that the statistical probability of a 72 year old with malignant melanoma surviving four years in good health is not great at all.

I watched the debate last night and was impressed that Obama is smart, competent to be President, and he's in his 40s, in good health. If something should happen to Obama, Joe Biden is seasoned, experienced and respected.

For me its a numbers game. McCain is respectable, but he is old with cancer, and Sarah Palin is absolutely unfit to be commander in chief.

Do the math people.
:-) | 2:08 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
"Drudge is reporting 68% for McCain with about 375,000 responses."

You believe those folks represent a random sample of Americans?

You want the numbers from the poll taken in San Francisco on gay marriage?
how about | 2:24 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
...waiting for a more credible poll(s)? At the very least the AP (or the DN) should have placed (what was essentially a disclaimer - "polls conducted on one night can be less reliable than surveys conducted over several nights because they only include the views of people available that particular evening") at the beginning of the article not at the end.

Hopefully supporters for "anyone other than Obama" will see this as a sign to pick up the pace. The price we will all pay over time if Obama's elected will make today's problems seem insignificant by comparison.

Sincerly,
Notmy Firstrodeo

Jim | 2:32 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
The key to the debate last night was the demeanor of both candidates. How respectful they were of each other, even considering their differences. McCain, as ALL sources are reporting, was unwilling to look directly at Obama, seemed angry, even scornful. People pick up on that. Meanwhile, Obama was more than ready to confront McCain and talk to him directly. What this shows is that McCain doesn't really care, or believe in what he says. It shows that McCain is willing to say anything to win the election. It also shows a person who is unwilling to work with other nations around the world, and who will continue the Bush policy of "with us or against us". We can't afford that attitude any longer. It's gotten us nowhere.
Obama won handily | 2:41 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Is McCain so proud that he can't even look at Obama? " Is he prejudice?

Obama spoke right to McCain and all McCain could do was snicker and stare at the moderator. This is the same man who endured interrogation in a POW camp? He seemed either arrogant or timid.

Obama's arguments were also much more clear and persuasive. He kept bringing things back to the main point, and you could easily follow his logic.

Obama will win the next two debates and the White House in November.
Re: NY | 2:44 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
It is important that the President can speak and debate clearly. Clear speaking is a sign of clear thinking, and we've had too little of that the last 8 years!
Pete | 2:51 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
My poll is as good as yours and theirs. Go McCain
Grimble | 2:54 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Jared,

If they do a broad random sample and get more dems that republicans, that also tells us something about the demographic shift in this country. REgistration for dems has boomed in the last two years. It will be silly to shoot for a 50/50 GOP/Dem split if that doesn't reflect the populace.
liberal Larry | 3:19 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I thought they both looked pretty good. Not a lot of wit on either side, but they both looked like they could handle the office. Despite what the fringes of both parties say, neither of them is the devil incarnate.
The Drudge poll, is called a "poll of convenience" with no scientific sampling methods used, and has the validity of going to a Kepler Company picnic and asking people what their favorite cookie is. It's totally meaningless.
Re: Bitter Truth | 3:37 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Very well said!! I could not have said it any better myself.
Palin | 3:42 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008

Palins coach didn't do as bad as expected but I sure hope he lives long enough to explain a few things before he is forced to retire.
It will take about another year or two to go over the difference between Russia and the Soviet Union.......but hey.......at least Palin will recognize the plane if Putin flys over for a visit.
Maybe she can meet the guy at the Bush ranch it will be empty after the Prezzz moves to Dallas.
There is no need for photo ops and Palin can bring her own moose......just shave the critter it gets hot in Texas.
fdg | 3:40 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Well it seemes that ol whats his name (he is ashamed of his middle name so why use any of his name) gave us the same talk, same words, same mush that he has for 19 months. and you libs fall for this guys fishing line, hook, worm and all. He has never had an original thought in his head. If you think he is going to be our savior you have been caught and put in the frying pan. He will lead us to the brink of socialism that we will ever seen in this country. He says that he is for the people but why did he not go to DC and help earn his pay as a Senator? No he wants to spread his lies like he did in the debate when he quoted Kissenger. McCain does care and as for him not looking at whats his name, I think the moderator ask the question and he was talking to him and the American people.I am not a McCain fan but I would rather vote for him than some one who will lead us away from our constition, values, and our way of life.
CNN? | 3:44 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Why is everyone so quick to dismiss the Drudge Poll and embrace the obviously biased CNN poll? For anyone who thinks CNN is fair and balanced, please give me a call - I've got a bridge I'd like to talk to you about.

Also, everyone is so worried about McCain dying in office and leaving us with Palin. What about something happening to Obama and leaving us with the plagerizing, lying Joe Biden? He's one of the most corrupt senators left in office!

Don't you people ever "google" or do you just take everything good ol' Teddy Turner tells you as fact?
NMP | 3:45 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
When Bush had the state of Florida, run by his brother Jeb, try to count the hanging chads, I knew this was fraud on his part, but, I thought after seeing Karl Rove, Dick Chaney, Trent Lott and the other cronies, the people would want someone better. After all the war in Iraq was over two things; Oil and the fact that Saddam Hussain (SP?)said he was going to (and these are Bushes words), "Kill my daddy." It really bothered me that no one could see through a man who has been led around by the nose by the likes of Chaney and Rove. Did everyone forget Bin Laden? Did they forget the Bin Ladens were long time friends with the Bush family. Is that why he has not been captured and punished for killing well over 3,000 Americans. Does anyone remember the video showing Bin Laden laughing about the bombing of the Trade Center being so much worse than he could imagine. I haven't. I never will.
Open your eyes America. Hitler did not take over in a day. He took over drip by drip.
re: the bitter truch | 3:58 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I would presume as a physician and Obama supporter that you thereby are in favor of universal health care. I am interested to know a physician's point of view on universal health care, and whether or not you believe it will be a benefit or a detriment to health care in America.
2:02??????????? | 3:58 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
No solid answers? ... Can you see? ... Can you hear? ... Which debate did you watch? ... Pathetic.
can't wait | 4:00 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I cant wait to hear the WHINING on the blog when Obama wins. It'll be all about "Mitt could'v done it". I'm voting for only the 3rd time in this election. My 1st vote I cast for Carter when he won.
My Next vote 4 years later I voted for Regan. Next I voted for Clinton (his 1st time) guess what.. Im voting for Obama :-)
This is an AP story | 4:07 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008

So of course they'd give the debate to Nobama.

I thought Nobama polished, and well spoken, and...EMPTY.

This guy needs to get his suit filled up. It's running out of air.
Both loosers | 4:09 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008

Yeah, I thought, and think, these guys are loosers. I mean, this is the BEST we could come up with?
I have to laugh | 4:14 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008

Nobama talks a pretty good game. But everything he's proposing has been done before.

In Utah slang, "It don't work!"

He sounds just like Jimm-ah Carter. We've been there, done that.
wayne | 4:19 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
How can someone actually believe that Obama won that debate? Going in everyone believed Obama would be the more poised debater with a command of the issues. You would give him a slight edge with out even listing to the responses.

This debate shocked me as I believed going in that Obama would be sharp on the issues and would show his usual commanding presence. This was not the case as he looked shaken, lost yet still poised as he should be, being a law professor.

Issue after issue McCain rocked Obama. Foreign policy, economy, taxes, spending, energy. Obama only answer to a McCain barbs was when McCain got him for requesting over 92 million, over a million per day that he worked in congress in earmarks and that Obama was the most liberal member of congress. Obama's feeble response that that was because he vomited against Bush.

this debate and your quick poles remind me of the Spinks vs Ali championship fight back in the 70's, the first one, where Spinks surprised everyone and out boxed and out hit Ali but didn't win. Spinks did not get the belt that day, too many had Ali already penciled in.

Look at the by-line. When it says Associated Press discount any information by 50%.
CNN & CBS !!! | 4:30 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
When you have two of the most liberal media outlets in the US conducting poles, how do you think they will turn out?
We need new legislation governing the media, and the backbone of the legislation should be the facts only, just the facts with no political overtones or agenda.
We are an educated people and can make our own decisions without the media trying to tell us how and what to think!
I'll help | 4:34 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008

If anyone wants to "move to Canada or France", after the election, I have a pick up truck and will help you move.

I wasn't aware that so many out there rely on our government for their state of happiness and well being.

How did Patrick Henry say it ??

"Sunshine soldiers and summer patriots"

I am highly unimpressed with both presidential contenders and their parties, but I love this country enough to defend her as a soldier, vote and ride out the rough times as well as enjoy the good times.

Instead of complaining, put that energy fueling your political acrimony to use at the polls this November.

Then get on and enjoy life. !!
kathyn | 4:55 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Obama is very good at smooth talking, but many times he never answered the questions put to him. Rather, he went in other directions. McCain did this a couple of times, also. I would hope that by the next debate we can get some concise, straight answers. I still cannot trust Obama. I see him as a socialist and our nation can't afford socialism. We're too close to that, as it is. He will tax us into extinction.
Here we go again. | 5:03 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
I have watched every Presidential debate since 1980. After every single one of them, the media has proclaimed the Democratic candidate the winner. It makes no difference who the media says the winner is....All that matters is what happens on election day.
re bitter truth\ | 5:06 p.m. Sept. 27, 2008
Where do you practice medicine? I would like to avoid going to a sexist Dr Like yourself. Besides I question your judgment.

So doc, the only reason to vote for Obama is that McCain is old and has had some health issues. even though McCain is right on the issues and should have won the debate.

then you praise Joe Bidden as prepared to step in even with all the baggage he has in his too long 30+ years and hush hushed storied (lies, misinformation and fraud)career. I know doc, bidden is repaired just ask Joe himself.

For all you red staters (Utah the reddest state of them all) that are wishing the blue staters would move to Canada and Europe consider this:

The BLUE STATES ECONOMICALLY SUBSIDIZE THE RED. If all the blue states told you laggard red staters to get lost -- and you can be your own intolerant, backward, economically depressed country (with a few rich people and massive rates of poverty)-- you would start to look like a second world country really quickly. If you want to see what a red state country would look like look to Mississippi. These are the facts. Grow up and get civilized!

I wonder what Jesus would think of the warmongering and indifference to the poor that the Mormons of Utah show. You make me sick.

Obama did OK, I thought he could have done better and I think he will. I do like his speaking style. It was interesting listening to it on the radio as opposed to watching.
