Davis: 0, 6, 13, 6, 13, 9
Syracuse: 6, 0, 6, 13, 0, 9
Now if that's not proof in the pudding, what is it?
May as well give a plug to Layton....which other than the shootout with Cottonwood, which is Utah's overall #1 offense, here's how many pts Layton has given up:
0, 40, 14, 13, 13, 14
Region 1 has always been known to be a defensive region. YOu gotta love a great D!
That's because they are. Many teams are. Layton is a small 5A school, producing fewer athlete studs than the huge schools in SL County. Don't want to debate that here, because it's been pummelled in other threads many times.
As far as the slow-mo feel to you.....that's what happens when you play the smash mouth D that Layton plays. It just slows you down baby.
And you can say Our Region is slower But you dont know anything about our region you have played one team, Jordan and that is it. The Person that said your team was slow watched the Bingham game then went to the Layton game, that is first hand Knowledge, Deal with it!
Ask Jordan if they think Layton is slow...
Fact is, the Layton defense flies around and makes plays, and is certainly not slow...
The offense, right now, might be a little slow...Applegate certainly isn't speedy, but ask that Division 1 recruit Washington from N-Ridge if that matters...also, we have our starting FULLBACK playing runningback, while being hurt...that certainly doesn't sound like speed is going to get the job done with that combo...meaning the Layton coaches have done a great job to utilize what they have...
Talk to us about speed when Jackson gets back from injury...
But I am not going to believe some biased fan of Bingham who he thinks is better...and me being a biased fan of Layton, I wont say who is better...just that Layton and Bingham are both great teams...so is Alta, Northridge, and I would have said Davis, but that Weber loss is just embarrassing...
state playoffs will be great cya there
I'm the one that said Layton/DAvis players were slower.....IN A GENERAL SENSE. I'd say this, because our schools ARE smaller, so there's less of a talent pool. Again, this has been beat to death. It's a no brainer. Layton's D is one of the fastest, not biggest, but fastest Defenses in the state.....period.
The one and biggest play, which happened twice, was when the call was made to go for a TD, not a FG. TWICE. I don't mind, because it gave us the game. Thanks.
So, upsets. It's bound to happen in high school soon. Could it be Alta, Bingham? Layton? Maybe not this week.....maybe week after that. You never know.
There's not one SL or UT County coach that "WANTS" to play a tough Layton or Northridge or Davis team. You always hope and wish for an easy road to the final. People can criticize how Layton had an easy road last year.....and that's great! I'm happy for that. I don't think Skyline wants to see Layton, although maybe they want revenge from the 49-0 spanking Layton gave them last year. Lot of history and winning tradition at Skyline. Would love to see new blood in the playoffs. Course, Layton's not used to being in the playoffs, or at least going deep into them, so whatever team is there, is who Layton and its coaches/players will adjust to.
Layton can control one thing.....how they play, and shouldn't be worrying about who they're playing a 5 weeks down the road. One game at a time.
Coach Batchelor has a non-egotistical philosophy..sorta like Joe Paterno, he promotes the one for all and all for one on this team and it shows. It seems that NorthRidge has so much hype, media coverage stating their physical condition, their new system and where they spent the summer learning it, their past record, their future and finally allowing their recruits to wear the symbol of their college while playing for the Knights that winning a region game is an after thought! 17-18 year old boys need to be grounded and taught how to respond to challenges, not to be taught how much better they are than their team-mates and their opponents. Too many people living vicariously through their kids, their super-stars, their glory and not enough people like Coach Batch who keeps his mouth shut and runs his program. In the end, character, integrity, and reality is rewarded by him. We need more coaches, parents, and people in the media, who do not use these kids to promote themselves. Their were 50+ athletes that are part of each team who take with them only what this experience teaches. So Right Layton is Lucky!
Look.....I don't and never have and never will rub something in, with the "I told you so" attitude. Just love my team and support them. I'm just telling you, sometime this year Alta and/or Bingham will probably lose. If they don't, then they don't. No skin off my back. I think they're overrated for these reasons: Alta not as good as they were last year. Bingham, simply for the Parry's guide, which I discredit for several reasons....but biggest is the hugely overrated rating given to Bingham. There.....those are my reasons. BTW, I back up everything I say. I don't just throw trash around or make blind statements.
Call it whatever you want. A hunch? Smelling? educated guess? whatever.
Guess there's a fine line between arguing, which I don't like to do, defending myself, which I open myself up to because I said I'd back up my statements.....and debating, which I enjoy.
Now stupid comments is another thing.
Going to go eat my cake.....and eat it too.
Northridge actually won 3 straight thank you very much!
Layton 41 Clearfield 9
When Jackson & Williams (pinched nerve in foot) are healthy, the rest of the region and playoff bracket teams, should be shaking in their cleats. Well, I know for a fact the opposing coaches will be.
Let's talk football baby! I love it! FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS AT ITS BEST!

Interesting how Batchelor intro'd the direct snap to Williams, used several times, and seemed to be effective. What I didn't think was effective, maybe due to Williams injury, was sending him outside. Now Jackson can burn the speed outside and make the quick turn, but didn't seem effective for Karl.
Also, is it me, or does it seem Applegate is more effective rolling and spotting his receivers downfield. He hates interceptions and turning the ball over, but do think he ought to throw it away at times, instead of taking the sack. Most sacks are outside the pocket, where the O line can't hold off the D as good. The pocket breaks down immediately.
