I don't blame the sharif opne bit, I wouldn't take
responsibility for people who aren't under my command either.

Heck if they didn't even show up to all training I wouldn't allow them to act as officers.

Is there an academy in the state where they can attend to be certified?

Why doesn't the County look at providing Sheriff's deputies to the airport under a mutual aid agreement that requires the Airport to remunerate the County for their service?

Dan Mann

The Airport Officers do attend an academy and are fully trained. Airport officers would be wasting time and money to attend the sheriffs training because they serve different funtions in a different environment. The airport covers the liabilty, hires and pays the officers. The sheriff simply gives them the arrest authority because the State does not allow an airport to do so. This appears to be either a power grab for money by the sheriff or simply an outrageous ego trip. Liability is always the argument when you have no reasonable justification for action. Watch - you will see sheriff say he'll cover security for a fee to avoid the airport shut down. Outrageous!
