"Camp Floyd and the Mormons" is a great book written about the Utah War.

Just a Dad

I remember meeting a 90yr old man (back in about 72) Ashley Bartlet (spelling?, who's parents met in that war. His dad was in the army that showed up, and his mom was a member who lived in Utah. He wrote a book about his life. What was awesome is he had very interesting stories about serving a mission that led him thru Nauvoo. He was the Patriarch of the stake that I lived in.

Er, pardon but

the term is "pitched" battles, not "pitch" battles. The one is a term used for fierce and deciding battles; the other is tree sap. I am sure they weren't fighting over tree sap.

Er, pardon again

but it's also "led" not "lead," since this happened in the past and we aren't talking about a metal. This is one of the unfortunate results of internet publishing. Anyone can be a writer, and nobody edits their work.

Good grief, "Er,pardon again", no-name. Is that all you have to do is correct typos? Couldn't you offer something constructive?

John Pack Lambert

Mitt Romney's father's mother's mother's father came to Utah in Johnstons army as a result of the war. He was a Wilken, which is where George W. Romney's middle name comes from.

To rebart

You think correct spelling, correct grammer, correct language us not constructive? There's a reason we'll become a 3rd world nation, and your casual attitude to basics is part of that reason. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well."

Notice the spelling mistake? Made a difference, didn't it? Point made

LTC Williams

The correct term would be "very small insurrection".

Oh, the stuff we don't know...

Oh, Oh, the stuff we don't know...the real details. Sigh...

Johnston Relative

I'm related to Gen. Johnston. He was my great(x5, if memory serves me right.) uncle.

It's interesting to read about the history of my distant relative who fought the Mormons.

Of course, I find it interesting to tell people that I'm related to him and now I'm a Mormon. Interesting how things change.

Kathy Baumgarten

As someone living "out in the mission field", Northern New York State, I am glad for more to come out. All many easterners know of Mormons is about polygamy. They don't know about our Church Welfare program, about our perpetual education fund, disaster assistance, and especially that the fact that we wouldn't hold slaves was a pivotal issue in Missouri. If we kept slaves, would they have kept us?

Anyway, this will be good in the end. As they say in Hollywood, any publcity is good publicity.

ps Rebart- a lot of people just have poor typing skills or don't have enough time to edit when everyone knows what they mean, esp if they are reading on a very short break at work. :)

Thanks for the report

Sounds like a very interesting speech by a fascinating person and a wonderful book. I'm interested in buying it.
