I was a little surprised to see Copper Hills stay this close with Riverton. Copper Hills can put up numbers in a hurry but they do have a difficult time with good running teams. Region 3 is known for the power smash mouth run game. If Copper Hills can not figure out how to stop the run it will be a tough road for them. The next 2 weeks are must wins if they have any chance to play in the post season. Hunter will have a little bit of revenge on their minds and Kearns always brings their "A" game against Copper Hills. The big question mark for the next couple of weeks will be if either team can keep Copper Hills from making the big plays. Good Luck in Region play.
"Close but no Cigar" my grandfather would always say to me if I hadn't taken the time to prepare myself properly. Deception would be the word I would use to describe this next generation of athlete's to experience a weak pre-season at Copper Hills in preparation for region 3 play. However, the question you must ask yourself is not "WHY" but "How long" will the "Hills" be plaged with paltry coaching. It sure cost the parents a large financial commitment to develop their young athlete's. Wouldn't it be nice to have just one winning season in 12 years?
Did either team even bother to play defense? 350 rushing yards for Riverton and at least 331 yards passing for Copper Hills makes me wonder. Looking at the schedule, Copper Hills is in for more of the same next week. Even worse than this week, because Hunter's running attack has historically been stronger than Rivertons'. This year is probably no exception. No offense intended, Riverton. You play good smash-mouth football but Hunter does it better. The closest game between Hunter and Riverton the last three years was a 31-21 Hunter win two years ago. Don't get me wrong, I think it'll be a good game. I just think Hunter will win.
But Riverton/Hunter isn't until late next month. For now, Riverton has to prepare for West Jordan. Umm. . .Good luck West Jordan? Against Riverton, they'll need all the help they can get.
I am tired of hearing all of you talk badly of Copper Hills and the coaches this year. If you look, this team was picked LAST in region 3 and they were in the game against the team most pick second and some picked first. Copper Hills is a good football team give them the credit they deserve. Those boys have worked hard this offseason to get better. They are a better TEAM then what they had last year.
If all you who think they can do a better job coaching than the staff there, lets see it...you talk the talk but can you walk the walk...I seriously doubt it. Stay with your day jobs!
Mommy and Daddy are obviously much more capable of coaching at the high school level. Problem is there son can't play all 22 positions
"Give some credit", Copper Hill's passing offense is obviously right on track. Both teams seemed a bit weak on defense, however, as the allowed yardage shows.
Yes, Copper Hills athletes worked hard in the off-season. All athletes do. I really, honestly hope that Copper Hills is more competitive this year than they were last. Gauging by the score against Riverton compared with last year, they are. It was a much closer game that, from what I can tell, could have gone the other way. Unlike the 33-14 beating Riverton administered in '07. I see that Copper Hills plays Hunter next week. That should be an interesting game, once again matching Copper Hills' passing against a good running team. A team, I might add, that they beat last year.
As for coaching at Copper Hills, can't do it. I'm too busy with being at Bingham's games. We seem to have problems of our own with penalties. Needless ones, at that. See you October 23!
Ya know football? I is smart and I's plays football!
Way to go Coach Miller. Congratulations on your team's win.
You're only better than last years time in the wins category right now! You have beaten better teams thats for sure! The Payson team last year was a ton better, and if I remember correctly last year you beat PG whoops! My bet is that Hunter pummels you this coming week just to show how much worse you are than last year!
I actually see Kearns battling Riverton for 2nd in Region just like it should have been last year! Matter of fact I think Kearns is the only team in the Region that might be able to do something against Bingham. However, Kearns isn't as deep and I doubt they are conditioned well enough to go 4 quaters of smash mouth with the deepest team in the state!
The only teams you have beat this year that you didn't beat last year was Tville and Box Elder! Both of those teams are getting worse! If I remember correctly the Box Elder game wasn't even close till Siliga got ejected for being an idiot and fighting. The Tville game CHHS was dominating and then the RB fumbles right when we were about to score to ice the game and the nose guard rumbles 95 yards for the game wining TD and we still almost came back and won it with a last second drive. So to say your better this year is a far cry!!!!
Last year Copper Hills only have a few good players and a bunch of "me me" players. They did not play as a team and were only interested in making their stats better. This years team is a TEAM, there are not "me me" players. The QB is better, the RB is better, the WR's are better, the OL is better. If you look at the program 4 years ago and compare it to today it is a complete 180. These kids have bought into what the coaching staff have sold. I see this team surprising more people this year and will be in the playoffs, not to mention they will break the school record for wins this year! Go Grizzlies!!!!
To RE:Give some credit.
Who are you to go on saying that we aren't a good team you know what show up and say that too our faces if you think that way otherwise shut your good for nothing mouth.
You make it to the playoffs and I will gladly say it to your face! That way you can say I told you so! But until you win a game in Region you might want to focus on the season and not the blogs or the articles that are written! Just a thought.
Broken record is what you sound like!!! It's the exact same thing they were saying three years ago, then they said it two years ago and then last year they said the same thing!
So you're either a coach that just keeps saying the same thing to make it sound like the team is getting better and that youre being listened too, or you've been around the program way too long and your tongue is purple from drinking all the Kool-Aid and not sharing with everyone else!
If your guys program is in a complete 180 from what it has been in the last 4 years or whatever...... wouldn' that make you guys number 1 in the state cause you guys in the past look, played, and acted like the last place team in the state. just a thought!!!! make the playoffs and you guys will gain some respect.
Some of you people are vicious. Maybe the Grizzlies aren't the best team in the state but that's no reason to put them down. That passing offense is impressive. Keeping the game close shows promise. The biggest concern seems to be defense. That applies equally to Riverton. Both need to improve their defense. Copper Hills is in for another serious test this week against Hunter. I think they can win but they'll have to step up the rushing defense quite a bit. Hunter's rushing attack is always a threat.
To the anonymous poster (9:19 p.m. Sept 26), I hadn't planned to reply but I will. Yes, I know a bit about football. Obviously you don't have anything productive to add to the conversation or you would have. Trying to imply a lack of intelligence on the part of those who have an interest in football in such a manner displays a lack of ability to express yourself cogently. Hopefully you can do better.
I agree that each year many players put in the extra time and effort to become better players. It is refreshing to see that you have bought into the "team" concept. The last four years of football under this coaching staff have produced an exciting style of play. If I am to evaluate the talent of these players over this period I would have to say that the class of 2008 were loaded with talent. To my knowledge there have not been any reports of players receiving D1 schlorships this year. The program in general has not made a 180 in the last 4 years. They still play weaker teams in the preseason to log a few victories and do not fare well in region. It would be much nicer to see a 1-4 preseason agaist tough teams that would help prepare them for region. You should be proud of the accomplishments in the preseason. Just show that you can do the same in region.
I dont understand why riverton is talking so much smack??? They beat tville hillcrest like we did and lost to pg like we did! It was a close game, but rivertn was not the better team. We have the #1 qb and wr in the state! Also our whole offense is juniors!!! Thats right juniors so next season will be better. After we beat hunter and kearns on their homecoming then womp wj on our home field. We will be waiting for bingham. Cant wait to see Riverton play in playoffs we will see you there.
I agree who cares about the preseason? region is what counts so CH should start playing some harder teams to get them ready for region.
It would appear that we have come full circle with our profound criticism. The athletes should be proud of their pre-season and continue to fight hard into the region play. I think everyone will agree it has "NEVER" been a question of having enough talented athletes at CHHS. It has always been the leadership! Last year the head coach blamed their losing season on his ASSISTANT coaches. Instead of doing the honorable thing and take accountability for his disastrous coaching style himself. The kids are not the problem people! It has always been the Leadership minus most of the assistant coaches. Work Hard this week Lads! I wish you all the very most sincerest of luck.
