Hmmm, I seem to recall many whom claimed the LDS gives quietly and never boasts of help or aid. Check mate! Your pride is a little thick.

I like knowing the church is helping others, regardless of their church affiliation. We've seen lots of missionaries in their yellow work shirts, and some have provided service for us at our business. We are very grateful. I'm not too proud to accept the help when needed.

Jedd..
Puh-lease. Give it a rest already, will ya? The LDS Church does far more for the benefit of others, members and non-members as well, than will EVER be published. It's only news because it pertains to a major disaster like Hurricane Ike. Instead of bashing the LDS church and its members, go pick some tomatoes from your garden or something...

Update for Jedd | 1:49 p.m. Sept. 20, 2008
The church helps in a remarkable way at a major disaster about every other day, year 'round. Often the trucks or planes are on their way before the storm actually hits, or immediately after the earthquake, etc., before the government agencies arrive in many cases.

Local members help out far more often, and are free to choose their shirts. I often wish they would not be quite so blatant, but they're human just like you and I.

I observe that an occasional news story just informs those who like to think because it's so quiet that it's not happening (or have been led to believe so, by critics).

After all, it's just one tiny church, about 2% of the US population, .2% of the world. It just makes the news whereever it helps because it is so organized, and has mostly faithful, caring members, as do many other groups and churches.

The Church is not bragging, but trying to answer its critics by showing the Love and work associated with there restored church. Namely, we try to practice what we preach. The critic above would be griping about the Church doing nothing if we didn't publicize. Every time we do this we dispel a lot of myths about us and our beliefs.
