Hey, Crockett. It sounds like your not following the wishes of your constituents. Didn't they vote to stay as a township and not move to incorporation?
Crockett will be proven right. This is going to be a disaster and will eventually be the end of the Sheriff's involvement in law enforcement. He will be left to running a jail for all of the police agencies in the county when this fiasco unravels... guaranteed!
It's about time for this regional policing to happen. Mr. Crocket is just another politiian not listening to what the citizens want. Mr. Crockett, you should read the survey results of HB 40. We are very content to remain a township and to retain County services. Get over it!
You are right by brother. The county has treated us VERY well and I for one am happy to be a township. Listen to the people Mr. Crockett and keep personal politics out of my life.
United Fire has done a great job pulling together. I'm pleased to hear this long thought of concept come to a reality for law enforcement. I hope law enforcement egos can be set aside and make this endeaver a success.
In Hawaii we have the City and County of Honolulu, which covers all of the Island. No matter what town you live in its the same Police. Same numbers etc, etc. There are No State Police so their is only one agency to deal with. Same Uniforms, same cars, one Budget etc. It has worked well for us. Uniform enforcement of laws, at least as close as it gets. It will work for Salt Lake County also.
When I lived in Oregon the small town I lived in Contracted Police from the County. We usually had 1 and 1/2 Police Man Hours. So some times we had 1 Cop and sometimes 2. State and County Backup was always available and just about everyone owned a Gun. It was/is a Town a Federal Prison is in so we had well trained citizen and a 1st class Volunteer Fire and Medic Service. The Voters passed a bond issue for a new City Hall, Fire Station, and top of the line equipment. What we did not have was a Snow Plow. It did not snow often but when it did the State Cleared the Freeway and County Roads but the City Streets Suffered.
Since we are consolidating county services and increasing the cities input why don't we go the last step and create a unified public works? That way my trash collection and streets will be under the control of my city rather than the county.
Crockett is against this not because of his constituents desires but rather the grand schemes of Dolan and Culliimore and Curtis. He even used Cullimore's term 'regional policing.' They want police that answer directly to them- not to an elected Sheriff who answere to the public.
The State Legislature needs to do what Nevada did years ago and mandate a Metro police force in urban areas that have a certain population threshold. There is absolutly no reason to have 10 municipal police departments along with the Highway Patrol and the Sheriffs office in Salt Lake Valley. They all trip over themselves all the time and chase the same criminals. The criminals have no bounderies. The cops shouldn't either. All these mayors just want to have their private little armies. Cottonwood Heights is a prime example.
Metro PD in Salt Lake Valley.
It is about time, we need to be up and running so we can rescue the cities that are trying their own force right Robbie!!
