Refs 2 - RSL 1 - NYRB 0. Well done refs.

I can't belive the past few games. I don't think I have ever seen a goal called back on any other team this season, and we have had what 4 called back? Anyway that was a good game minus the bad calls on the goals.
waiting for it | 11:17 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Following and being a 'fan' of this league is exasperating; it's wrenching my soul to the point of giving up on the whole affair, and solely for the guy in the middle. Maybe Vanberberg was on, maybe he was off on NY's 2nd goal. I agree with the linesman in giving the doubt to the offensive side, but it should be consistent between games and different officials and Espindola's last week should have received the same treatment.
NY's first (non)goal was an inexplicable failure on the ref's part to call a foul. He was quick on the card against us, but got caught up in Angel's good looks instead of doing his job (a la David Beckham). No matter how excited I am for the new stadium and RSL's future, it is highly diminished by the lack of action, care, and professionalism on part of the league and its officials.

Soccer in America, I doubt it. | 12:06 p.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Bald calls happen - and no chance for instant replay. If nothing is done about this Fifia will find soccer never catches on in this country. Too much resposibilty and power left on the one man. It to much to asks and is killing the game.

Typical sports fan in this state. The blame is always on the officiating. Grow up!
The refs didn't lose the game | 9:06 a.m. Sept. 15, 2008
If real had showed up to play, they could have won. If they would have put the ball in the net a couple more times, the calls wouldn't have mattered. Bad refs happen. Have you ever watched World Cup? How many of those games come down to a bad call. A lot. The refs are better in WC, but it isn't perfect. The bottom line is Mathis is cursing the team. Dump him now! He sucks. And he has a double chin. Any athlete who has a double chin doesn't deserve his paycheck. And why is Andy Williams starting when he can't score a goal? I know the answer: because our bench is full of people who suck more than Williams, like Mathis. I have a feeling we aren't going to make the playoffs. And if someone blames the refs I am going to come unglued. I blame the players who aren't consistent enough to show up every week ready to play hard. Good luck RSL, but I'm not holding my breath.
Olave & Angel | 9:27 a.m. Sept. 15, 2008
Additional Game Notes: Juan Pablo Angel & Jamison Olave met after the match, Angel returned Olave's wallet, after Angel's mugging of Olave on the pitch. Before Olave boarded the bus he made sure all the contents were there!

Kevin Stott couldn't ref a U6 game in outer Mongolia!

Yeah, you can call attention to the calls, but to pin the whole loss on them is wrong. We're also a team without much killer instinct, which I think comes mostly from the forwards. I think we're going to make the playoffs, which will still be a pleasure compared to previous seasons, but I don't think we'll make much noise there.
Next game is it | 10:13 a.m. Sept. 15, 2008
This next game against Chivas is it. If we win we will most likely make the playoffs. If we lose we most likely will not. Talk about a big game (last game in RES).

If the refs are so bad, why do the players assume they are going to get the calls. Both of these goals don't happen if the players just play soccer instead of hoping the refs will bail them out. Flopping and whiny players are why this sport (and I am a die-hard fan of soccer) will not catch on in this country.
Flopping! | 12:32 p.m. Sept. 15, 2008
Olave is not a flopper!!! The man was completed thrown out of the way with NO CALL! RSL deserved atleast the tie in that game. I admit, the players shouldn't rely on the refs (in MLS especially), but those were two non-goals that ended up being goals for NY. RSL needs to win some games on the road.
bad refs - again | 8:37 a.m. Sept. 16, 2008
Yeah Utahans quite whining about the refs; after all someone made a negative comment were made about the refs last call after the BYU/Washington football game last week. Did hear anybody out of state complaining about that call? Lets face it spots fans pay millions for their sports and if they like to complain about the service, thats ok as long as they keep on spending.

Re: bad refs - again:

You might want to check your sources on the BYU/Washington ref call. Rivals.com did an article on the controversial call, as did many others college football news sources. Utah isn't the only state complaining about bad ref calls. The Chargers are up in arms right now, and the Broncos are celebrating a ref's incompetence. Just saying...
