Nothing of substance to "whine" about with Palin? Have you spent the past few weeks in a sensory deprivation tank? Troopergate, her links with the Alaskan Independence Party, her attempts to revive the long-disproven link between 9/11 and Iraq, her disaster of an interview with Charlie Gibson...need I go on? These are serious concerns about her qualifications to act as VP, and people are raising them. Of course, Utahns would vote for Osama Bin Laden if he had an (R) by his name, but the rest of the country is realizing what a mistake McCain made in picking her, and we aren't going to shut up about it.

Oh, and if you'll look outside the Wasatch Front, you'll find that "liberal" is no insult. The 40-hour work week, benefits for veterans, accessible student loans, and an end to child labor are just a few of the things you can thank those rotten "liberals" for...

I am so saddened by the countries love affair with Palin.

With all the serious issues facing our lives and our children's lives we need the best and the brightest... not a hockey mom.

Climate change is happening.

The energy problem is not solved by drilling.

You can't know Russia by look at it from Alaska.

A world leader needs to understand that the rest of the world is totally unlike the US - and thus needs world experience. Mormon missonaries know that.

Doesn't make you more qualified then Gov Palin, but it does make you more qualified then Obama.

Hey Lipstick Power, Palin is running for VP. She is not McCain's wife. Therefore she won't be "First Lady" if elected, she will be Vice President. And if the McAged died in office, she would be President, not First Lady. Sheesh. You don't even know what office you are voting for, let alone who.

I have for four years been convinced that Cheney could not be surpassed, but that was before Palin opened her mouth and removed all doubt of her lack of qualification. If we are lucky, Cheney will invite both McCain and Palin on a hunting trip.
Bahhhhhhh. | 8:42 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
Utahns would choose Rasputin or the Pied Piper if they were running for the Republican party! As with all things in Utah they simply put their blinkers on and off they go like sheep............
Bahhhhhhhhhh
The best thing about them | 8:48 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
is that they aren't Lawyers! Oh, and for those of you who just can't fathom folks actually doing something like supporting a candidate you don't like.....Deal with it!

She has a multimillion dollar natural gas line that says she does care about "energy independence."

Great comment! The facts starting to surface.

In the Latter days, what is right will be wrong and what is wrong will be right. People with moral values supporting Palin who claims to support family values yet spends little time with her family. Who was her teenage daughter going to talk to? The dad? Now a special need 4 month old that she left to go back to work for days after the birth. Both parents in this have ignored their family obligations for power and money. Now they are being supported and praised for being neglectful parents. The end must be near.
Joyce Lohr | 9:08 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
I have a new idea for a bumper sticker against the demos. It goes like this: Obama Bin Biden, that should say it all.
Palin is STILL an insult | 9:07 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
To those of you so busy trashing Oama: perhaps you should LISTEN to his plans. He's put more details into what he plans to do, than McCain has.

Obama will raise your taxes ONLY if you make more than $250,000. How many of you hanging out on your computer, make that salary?

Don't you understand that our economy is in a mess, because the CONSUMERS (the middle class) are under press. George Bush gave tax decreases to the wealthy, and McCain wants to extend them.

To the person who calls Elizabeth "uneducated". That's mind-boggling.

I can't believe how UNthinking Utah voters are. Or is it that you can't stand to see a black man pull himself up by his own bootstraps, educate himself, be smarter than you, and it shakes you to your racist bones?
Mothgod | 9:12 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
For the life of me I can't understand why everyone who post on these board brings up God, God has nothing to do with politics. Also the LDS church only care about 2 political issues, abortion and marriage, they don't care who the president is or the VP and they don't care if your a Dem or a Rep.
Did anyone of you people know that only less than 40% of Utah claim political associations, the rest are independents mostly Mormons who despite all who try to label them as sheep, know more about politics than 90% of the rest of america.
To David O | 9:20 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
We would never know that Obama's daughter was pregnent. By his own admission, he would allow his daughter to have and abortion so it would not be a burden to him or her.
Baah Baah Baah | 9:19 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
But what does the PROPHET say? How can we know who to vote for unless HE tells us what GOD says?

The prophet told us to vote for Proposition 8 in California. Surely God must have also told him who we need to vote for in this elections.

That is what I call a "twofer"
obama's tax plan | 9:26 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
Take money from the rich and give to the poor. Wow, thats a great tax plan.
The rich become rich because they know what to do with money, poor stay poor because they don't know what to do with money. I know there are certainly exceptions, but in general if you get a handout, you will continue to look for that handout. If you work for what you get, you become more appreciative of what you have and try and improve yourself.

And remember there are just as many democrats who got to where they are because of hard work, not handouts.
Dear Joyce Lohr | 9:27 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
Your bumper sticker idea is stale, and will only make you look foolish.

The more you attack Obama with lame racist insults, the more desperate you look. You're angry because Palin is being "attacked" (can't she stand up to the job like anyone else?)....but you think you're clever in your own attacks.

Dream on. Only in Utah, do people vote by rote....and unthinkingly.

People bring up God because our country was founded with God in mind. Also, people that believe in God want similarly minded people to represent them in government.

Palin in not a good role model for our children.
I would have voted for McCain but not now with Palin one step away from becoming the President of our Country. And I don't think it is right justifying her lack of inexperience by referring to Obama's lack of experience...this is like saying it is ok for me to be bad because you are bad. This is not right.
Thanks but no thanks to Palin.
bud parks | 10:38 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
As a BYU law school graduate I hope more people will give Obama a chance. McCain has begun running the most dishonorable campaign I have ever seen. I live in AZ and McCain has no morals and his temper is insane, he once yelled at my wife in a meeting because she pointed out he was clearly wrong. Palin went to 4 differnet colleges before becoming a sportscaster. The Republicans want our votes but the evanganical crowd will always insult LDS people.

Those who support Palin as a good Republican VP pick are absolutely bonkers!

She IS NOT a fiscal conservative, but a tax raiser and indebtor (Debt & Spender) of government she is over.

She is one of the biggest supporters of Pork Barrel funding (The Bridge to Nowhere). She only pulled the plug when she couldn't get the federal funding for the project... talk about flip-flopping!

A staunch social conservative doesn't swell very well, as she herself didn't live by the rule-of-abstinence (conceiving her first child out of wedlock), and her 17 year old girl continuing the hypocrite tradition.

She defines the term 'political facist' by her booting ANYONE who disagrees with her or has crossed her (or her sister) by firing, booting or removing them from their jobs or duties...

Palin heavily indebted Wissalla Town. Palin pushed the receipt of federal funds to the highest level of any State (not the social conservative she's been made out to be). And she insisted ALL oil leaving Alasaka is 75% severance taxed after the first $25/barrel.. while we in the lower 48 suffer at the pump, making her no better in energy policy than an OPEC shiek!

Palin's a poor choice!
Dead poll | 11:05 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
Imagine that, another GOP friendly poll from the pages of this paper. This one almost stinks as bad as Chaffetz'.

For all of you who haven't yet, read the Republic Platform before you vote. It is excellent and may help you decide just who to support.

By the way, I think Governor Palin is great!
David O | 11:19 p.m. Sept. 13, 2008
Just because someone claims to have morals, doesn't mean they have them. Just because someone has kids does not make them a good parent. I am really shocked and dismayed at fellow conservatives falling for this big phony Palin. There were much better qualified women in Congress that could have been the VP candidate such Hutchison or E. Dole. Both accomplished women that had success and did not ignore family in time of need.

I would like to know how much time the Palin, mom and dad are spending with the special needs child and the pregnant teen vs. campaigning.
Palin Lovers | 12:03 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Did you see the interview? The one where she knew now of the answers and justmade up a dumb statement. You know she was tested and grilled on all possible subjects before allowing her to be interviewed. The million dollar: What is the Bush Doctrine? Umm, Hmmm, Well....She had nothing. I teach school, read the paper, and I can tell you the Bush Doctrine. But you really want someone in the #2 spot that knows mothing about this country's economics, foreign relations, and many other issues. You can't possible believe that just because she's entertaining and has an R by her name she should be VP. Please don't make me believe that you're silly enough that you don't see through the sam being done here. The woman is a red herring. To throw everyone off the trail of the fact that the Pres. Nom has no real skill to be pres in such economic times and is too hotheaded to be effective in foreign relations. Don't follow that Republican red herring.

As a BYU law grad, I am offended that you are waiving your silly J.D. degree around as some sort of weapon. Guess what? Most BYU law grads (like me) are going to vote for McCain, not Palin.

Both McCain and Obama have tempers. So what? Clinton lost it every single day he was in the White House. George Stephanopoulous took the brunt of most of Clinton's anger. That is according to David Gergen's book, and he was an advisor to five presidents.
First lady? | 12:25 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Sarah Palin is not fabulous ... if you think so, your standards are infinitely low! ... this country is in great distress and you want a third-rate politician like her to be in line for the presidency? ... you are buying too much into the lies poured out by the Hannitys and the Limbaughs ... oh, and by the way,
"first lady" is the honorific given to the wife of a president ... please think before you type ... and vote!
scott | 12:28 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
I honestly do not understand how anyone could give the republicans four more years of power. They have ruled this country for almost eight years now and they have run our country into the ground. How many of us can really say that our country is in better shape then when they took control?. How many of us are doing better now than when Clinton was president? My parents both have their own businesses which were thriving eight years ago, now they are barely getting by.

They pretend they're more religious and moral but have you listened to their talk radio? They spew endless hatred of anyone that thinks differently than them. Now, like the past two elections, we are subject to their lies. This time about earmarks, bridges to nowhere, etc.

They had eight years and the have failed horribly. Our country can't afford any more.
Re demo | 1:03 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
So because she raises taxes and put Alaska in debt, refuse federal funds, got pregnant out of wedlock, taught her child to get pregnant out of wedlock, etc, etc, etc, she became the most popular Gov of Alaska and has over an 80% approval rating. Hmm, sounds like somebody doesn't know their facts.

Your a poor debater, everyone knows ad hominum. Attacking her makes your point mute.
Sundance | 1:14 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
I've said it before and i'll say it again...when the liberals try to destroy a person, you can count on that person being a great human being. that is why they tried to destroy President Bush. He was and still is a great Man. when you can't compete in the areana of ideas, you have to try and take out the other side, by destroying their personal lives. sometimes it works. lately tho, it's been coming back and biting the lefties where they sit. Keep up your bashing and trashing and watch SARAH waltz right into the white house

If we are going to use the argument that since Russia is close to Alaska, then the flawed logic follows as so:

Palin doesn't know about the 'Continental United States'

Palin doesn't know about 'China'

Palin doesn't know about 'Japan'

Palin doesn't know about 'Iraq'

Palin doesn't know about 'Afganistan'

Palin doesn't know about ' Fill in country not close in proximity to Alaska HERE'

See the flawed logic?? It's a ridiculous argument. We don't need the stupidy of Palin in the White House.

It seems like so many people are so eager to vote against Obama/Dems or for McCain/Reps, that they will overlook what Palin has said. "Blame the media", they say, but the media is only pointing out her exaggerations and lies.

I have been called a GOP Plant and I am so proud of that I E-Mailed my Wife at Work. I also got in touch with R.A. Young and Anon 808.

I would not Vote for McCain by himself. Mrs. Palin although I am somewhat Left of her, and Right of McCain, is a good Choice. She is a great Balance to the Repub Ticket. She makes McCain able to happen.

What I cannot wrap my mind around is 4 or 8 years or more (as I believe if they win they will fight to overturn Term Limits for President).

I have a lot of issues with Obama, but the biggest would be the continued unchecked Genocide of the Unborn. I am told by my Daughter, Just turned 18, (who will vote for the 1st time) that that is not the only issue. Also some Hawaiian Mormons tell me the same thing. That might be True, unless you are the human life being destroyed even as you are being born. I am Right they are Wrong.

I live for Roe v Wade to be overturned and Laws put in place to put Abortion Performers and Aides in Jail.

Chris | 7:02 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
As a Republican being fully honest with myself, I have to say that the choice of Sarah Palin is reckless. Of course, John McCain has lived much of his life in a reckless manner, so this is not terribly surprising.

I also believe that the Democrat's choice of Obama was also reckless. At this point, I find Hillary Clinton to be a much more comfortable choice as President than either of the options available.

Look yourself in the mirror and really ask yourself... if John McCain were to die in office, do I really feel confident in Sarah Palin as President of the United States?
Charlie Gibson - Elitist Snob | 8:13 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
To the critics of Sarah Palin that she didn't know the so-called "bush doctrine" in the Charlie Gibbons interview, you need to read the Charles Krauthammer op-ed in the Washington Post from Saturday, September 13th. The bush doctrine has 4 incarnations; all fluid depending upon the opinion of the commentator. Who decides what the bush docrine is anyway? At least Palin didn't PRETEND to know what it was as opposed to CHARLIE GIBSON who, acting "like an impatient teacher" looking down his nose past his bi-focals...Did! Palin actually gave a very composed, good answer, and shows she has the mettle to stare-down these psuedo -intellectual elitst types. That's why more "common" people love her. She presumes to "act on their stage!" more power to her!!
David O | 8:16 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
I am far from liberal. I am a conservative with some senses. McCain is only pandering to the anti abortion crowd to get the support of his party. He will do what he has done on this issue before. Absolutely nothing. Don't fool yourselves. Palin is a pale comparison or Dole or Hutchison and a sham reformer. No one will change Washington. Be wary of anyone that tells you otherwise from both sides. The culture there is incestuous and untangle-able.
ConcernedDad | 8:20 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Palin appeals to me because as the saying goes: the enemy of my enemy is my friend. But Marc Rudov explains this even better in his article "Why Women Bash Sarah Palin" wherein he points out how ever since Palin was picked, she's "been the object of merciless, vicious attacks -- mostly by women. This intragender war marks the official unmasking of fascist feminism." Palin is hated by NOW styled feminists and that's reason enough for me to love her. I'm tired of all the illegal rights and privileges - the enormity of unequal powers - that women have amassed - abortion, paternity fraud, false accusations that go unpunished, paternal alienation - because of the work of such organizations as the NOW. These are shamefully unequal powers and shameful times and if the NOW feels Palin threatens these, then... it's about time!!

Sarah Palin is FABULOUS. Oh, by the way, she's also proud of her country & is going to make a GREAT First Lady."

WOW, ZING, BAP! those are some solid, well laid out heavy hitting intellectual points. You showed them pesky liberals didn't you? As a conservative that can actually lay out specifics points, I would like to distance myself from people like this.

I am also proud of my country, can I be VP? The threshold to be 2nd in line to run the country has really dropped.

Sarah is fabulous. And to "Re: Elizabeth 8:21" you are right. A lot of people on this blog need to educate themselves.

I think it's so funny the way the left wingers refuse to acknowledge the fact that Palin is the Governor of a state. All they can talk about is the fact that she was the mayor of a small town.

Sarah Palin had been in elected office for five years when Barak Obama ran for state legislature. She has more executive experience than both of the Dem candidates put together. Moreoever she is right on the issues.

GO SARAH!!!! She is as breath of fresh air.

Wake Up | 9:46 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
All of you stroking the govenor background as a measuring stick for executive ability need only look back to 8 years ago. Who did we elect- The Bush-Wacker former Texas govenor. Give me a breakUtah and your groundless points about Palin. She has been a governor less than 2 years. Now lets not kid ourselves, newly elected people just don't turn everything upside down and around in 20 months. Is Bush as a former govenor what you think a top administrator needs to be like to hold the office? Get over yourselves.
Utah Mom | 10:15 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Sarah Palin is proving to be a fraud and a liar who has surrounded herself with her own " good old girl" network. She has no problem defrauding the State of Alaska by using her elected office to settle personal scores and apparently doesn't even blink at taking money from the taxpayers to indirectlt keep her" first dude" husband on the public dole. Wow, there's reform for you. I don't care how she raises her children, but I am sick at how low the Republican Party has sunk. I don't want a stepford wife as the possible president of this country. She is a George Bush in a skirt. How dare the Repiblicans pull this ploy. It's not her experience or gender that is the issue, it is her ability to so easily distrot the truth and her lack of ethics that should be making every American nervous.

Perhaps KSL needs to look into reviewing their manner of polling... Quite sure the demographics of one area do not make up for the thoughts and preferences of the entire state. BTW - Beauty and the Beast are best left for Disney, not the political forum of the United States of America.

Don't count me in on the love fest for Lady Pallin. I think she lacks the experience and I did not like her speech at the convention. I guess I just saw things differently that you all. I am one of the "swing votes" in this election. This pick, barring something I see to the contrary, has cemented my support for Obama and Biden. Of course in Utah, given the goofy electoral system, won't matter, so don't sweat it anybody.
Earl Hamiliton | 10:26 a.m. Sept. 14, 2008
Utah has once again proven to be the stupidest state in the Union. We support anybody that has the R in front of their name. My Mormon brethren are supporting the right wing of the Republican Party who hate Mormons and threw Mitt Romney under the bus. We should be ashamed of over our self's in this State. We have a State Legislature that is bought and paid for by Special Interest groups. Our Republican Governor will not stand up to Greg Curtis (Real Utah Governor) when he tries to force his ultra-conservative values on everyone in the State. We need to send a clear message by voting Democratic here in Zion. How can we support a President that has sold our country down the road. He has started an illegal immoral war that has killed thousands on both sides, and for what? We are morally, financially bankrupt as a nation. It is the first time in my life that I have been ashamed of being a Utahan. I'm going to change my address to Sandy, Colarado!!

I love the liberals insane, fear driven dribble on this blog. belittling Mormons and Utah. Little sheep are we.
They talk of lack of ethics, ploys and lies. The Demoncrats have never had issues with these vices before, have they?
I think Palin is a breath of fresh air in the caustic theater of Washington politics.
