The last thing we need are more "counselors".

If we could just reduce the class size down to a reasonable amount of students, most wouldn't need counseling.

Explanation of salary

The salary package for any counselor, teacher, etc., is their salary + BENEFITS.

Benefits include retirement contributions, medical, insurance, etc. which are estimated to be approximately 40-45% of the base salary.

Therefore, a counselor (Master's Degree in guidance counseling) who makes $40K/yr gets about $17K in benefits, resulting in a $57K total package.

DEATH SPEAK FOR GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS!

RE:Explanation of salary

Thanks for the data. That is some sad numbers and I have heard even worse for teachers. It's no wonder we can't find quality people for schools. However, take a look at administrative salaries that is where the numbers are off the chart, I for one could not believe what they are paid. A huge gap exsists between them and teachers serving on the front lines. I can see why they walk around with their head in the clouds!! Another pitiful reality for educators!!
