Just a question | 8:34 a.m. Sept. 13, 2008
There are already a lot of comments here, so mine probably won't get read. But I'm curious how much this travel budget that has increased by 15% is? I mean, an increase of 15% sounds like a lot. But how does it compare to other team expenses? Player salaries: $65 million. Team staff salaries, including front office, security, arena personnel, etc: $20 million. Arena Rent (well, LHM owns Radium Stadium, so for him it's a mortgage payment), insurance, utilities, etc: $10 million. Travel and lodging for 25 people over 41 games: $5 million. 15% travel budget increase: $75,000. Which is a lot of money, but it's a 0.75% increase in the overall budget. A story with THAT kind of research would have been GOOD reporting. With the Caption: Ticket Price increases: Here's the excuse they're going to try to sell you. Here's why you shouldn't believe it!

I don't think you guys understand, the writer is using the Jazz as an example of rising costs. Some of the ideas to just watch college instead is not on point. Do you think that travel costs have only increased for professional teams and not college? Your college teams are suffering as well.

I don't understand all of the negativity. When costs go up for the NBA, they are also going up for all of your employers as well. Therefore, the ticket prices could go up, and then, less and less people are able to afford them. That's the reality.

Yeah, most NBA players are not making 6 figures but the NBA minimum salary for a player with no experience is over $400,000. After just one year in the league you jump up to a minimum salary of over $700,000. I don't feel sorry for them.

If the league minimum is $400,000, then isn't everyone making at least six figures?

I wonder if the Federal Government can help bail them out?
Terrible Timing | 6:45 p.m. Sept. 16, 2008
This might be the worst timed article of all time.

WTI Crude is now from 140 to 90 and futures are at 80 . . . Gas costs are going to change the finances of the NBA? please.

Sorry, even as a sports fan. I don't care. Talk about a slap in the face for us who actually are affected by gas prices.
Ummm? | 5:58 p.m. Sept. 17, 2008
It's been said, stupid story. It's kind of like Patrick Ewing's whining when the players were on strike, "Sure we make alot of money, but we spend alot of money." Something like that. Also, it was a bad editorial decision to run this story today.

Jazz players Ronnie Brewer and Deron Williams arrive at Houston's Toyota Center last season. Increased travel costs are hurting the team's bottom line.
