Environmental Nightmare | 12:28 p.m. Sept. 10, 2008
It is unconceivable that these people still want to build coal powered power plants, when most people are trying to get rid of them as major poluters.
Their claims of clean coal are a dream, what they mean is less dirty than the old ones.
Nuclear power is a viable alternative and one that the public and many environmental groups embrace,so get with the program.

I do not want the power plant to come to our area and I do not believe that more then 50% of our county wants it either. I believe we should put it to a vote and then you would see just how many citizens want that power plant in there back yard

I live in Sigurd, we have polled our town several times and 98% of people in Sigurd are strongly against the proposed power plant. Venice, the closest town to Sigurd is 99% against the proposed power plant. If Sevier Power believes that "more than half the county is in favor of the plant" what are they afraid of, let the people vote. The truth is they know the large majority of the county are against the proposed plant, but they don't care. I have a beautiful, new 4400 square foot home less than a mile away from their proposed site. I think if they want to put something that close to my home they should be willing to buy my home at top dollar, because if they build that thing my home will be worthless.

Many people in Sigurd choose not to turn in their paper vote because town officials number them so they know who is for and who is against...it is not an anyonymous vote. You do get a vote though...you vote on commissioners and give them your trust and power to make the right choice. Besides that, if the power plant meets all criteria then the commissioners have to approve it even if they personally don't want it here. As far as your new house goes, did you read that the power plant has been working on coming here for 7 years? Maybe you should have built your house somewhere else knowing it would eventually come here and you built it in a town where there are 2 wallboard factories so you must not have cared about the value of your home anyways.

Do you live in Sigurd? "Many" people in Sigurd did turn in their vote, in fact almost all of them were turned back in. If the small minority did not want to be counted, so be it, they are still the minority. Why in the world would you be in favor of something that the entire educated world is trying to minimize or eliminate? If it is for the "maybe" 70 possible jobs, WalMart has more employees than that without the environmental risks. Hopefully you have a lot of water storage and do not use a well for your water like everyone in the town of Venice. Hopefully you will become educated on the risks of having a power plant so close to you.

This power plant will just cause more trouble for our county.Like for peoplw with asthma it will only get worse. Also for peole who dont have asthma it may cause them to have it.The children in our county will only suffer. The pollution can also cause autism more than some one who dont live by a power plant. All this thing is is trouble and is not doing any good for us.

I recently heard a debate on wether or not to put the plower plant in sevier county. The speaker that was for the power plant told us that there would be very little to no pollution but when the other speaker came in he made the point that if there is a stack were the smoke would come out of then whats the point of having the stack. Both speakers made very good points but it does not take my opinion not to put the power plant in. I feel very strong about my choice and i will continue to feel this way!
