There's still time for change | 3:59 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
You've got to give it up to BYU, they had never beaten Washington on the road! Yes, they're defense looked ugly, esp on the last drive, but BYU gave up a couple touchdowns that could have changed the game. BYU's offense was potent. UCLA is not going to stop BYU's offense. The game Sat will just depend on if Bronco changes the defensive style. He purposely isn't putting any pressure on the opponent's QB, only rushing 3-4 men, to cover for other weak areas. I say change it up your D and rush the QB and you'll see a different team. Come on, there's still time for the D to improve! It up to Bronco-who's the defensive minded coach
to the yoots/BYU haters | 4:00 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
When are you guys gonna give it a rest? You predicted every week during conference play last year AND the year before that AND for our bowl games AND for the UNI and UW games this year that BYU was going to lose. I mean, sure it's bound to happen some day but you haters are so pathetic with all your doom & gloom predictions. Then again, it is pretty hilarious to see your wishful thinking and complete frustration!!

GO COUGARS!!

You guys are all babies. None of you are playing or offiacating so stop complaining.

Cougar Fans are Morons | 4:26 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Thank you Realistic Fan. If the rest of the Cougar Fan were like you, I might cheer for BYU every once in a while. It's the rest of these idiots that have me cheering for anyone who plays BYU every week. At lease you can admit that the Cougars scrapped by yesterday against a horrible team. Pull your heads out Cougar Fans.
Hey! go cou GARs | 5:00 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
lets face it. our defense is slow.. but lets think for a minute. When the turtle and the hare raced, who won? the turtle did. Why? because the hare was prideful... so basically the moral of the story is that Pitta, Unga and Hall basically saved our butts.. thanks guys..
smutz | 5:13 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
In reading many comments, I note that something like a QUEST has come into play for the Cougars. Not knowing much about your area, may I still venture to guess what it means?: If the Cougs go undefeated and actually trounce a quality team in a BCS game, everyone on the team will have his calling and election made sure. That being so, does the team have any need for an extra water boy?
Cry Babies | 6:08 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I have never seen so many cry babies in all my life. 405 posts. Are you kidding me? Get over it. Scoreboard. If Willingham can get over it, maybe you cry babies can do. Quote from Willingham:

''It's one that they almost have to call,'' coach Tyrone Willingham said

BYU beat UW in:

Total Yards
Passing Yards
Rushing Yards
Time of Possession
and finally, scoreboard

Grow up.

BYU 28, WA 27

END OF STORY.

1. To: MWC Refs - No you wont get even with the PAC-10 refs Saturday. MWC refs will be watching the game like you. A PAC-10 crew will be in Provo.

2. To: Quit - I agree stop scheduling PAC-10 teams and go with other BCS conferences where you can get your own officiating crew every other game.

3. To: All complaining of Utahs half time score, as a reminder its the final score that counts.

4. To: Danno - see 1 above.

5. To: All the Associated Press voters - What you did to Ohio State and BYU for their wins will guarantee coaches across the country running up the score on anyone as much as you can. The margin of victory is a good way to take the class out of college football.
Re: Cougar Hunter | 6:35 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
This makes the millionth time your predictions have been wrong! You are the perfect reverse barometer! So tell us, please, who will win the Presidential election? I want to put money on the man you say will lose!
KSL | 6:40 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I listened to the game on KSL and am embarrassed.
Please get some good quality announcers.
If you think these fans are bad and whine you should listen to the BYU announcers on KSL.
Please get someone better!

Any astute comments on Utah's win in the "Big House" last Saturday?

Let's be fair-- and balanced.
BYU was robbed | 8:12 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
everyone run to prop up the huskies.

Huskies: Just Kick the point and let's play some OT and get this resolved!

Appears public opinion is Bronco and the Cougars threw the flag!!!
BYU GUY | 8:14 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Bronco Buster needs to play the best players on defence and not his favorite buddy buddy butt kissers. You can't tell me that Jordan Pendelton isn't a better Defensive back than Kevin Fowler. Fowler is horrible! Pendelton is a stud. The defensice backfield is a mess and the run defense is full of holes. I think Jim Brown couold go for 300 yards against this Cougar Defense, and he's nearly 70 years old!

How come oud DB's are constantly 20 yards off the receivers? The d-line has more gaps in it than alfred e newmans smile.

Quest for perfection??? Not even close at this point!

Come on Defense...Pick it up!
AP Poll | 8:21 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
If any of you Utah fans are wondering how is BYU fans are doing...

It a great feeling to know that your team has the longest winstreak in the country.

Oh, and it's great being a Top 20 program.

Things I wonder about the Utah program:

Why did it take you guys until the second half to get over your fear of Frank the Tank and start playing against UNLV? What's with the trick play up by 21? Does Kyle have some sort of phobia about being a class coach? What's a MUSS?
How many.... | 8:29 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
...of you TDS fans chanting "scoreboard" and chastening "whiners" about the officiating will be saying the same things to your OWN fans after dropping next weeks game to UCLA?

Prediction: NONE
Much to do... | 8:28 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
With the surge BYU got on the blocked FG They would have blocked the extra point anyway. Washington should read the rule book next time before the Quarterback goes off and throws the ball up in the air.

Those of us who were at the game also saw the back official about to throw an unsportsmanlike flag on the Husky bench for running onto the field at the same time of the TD. The flag was in his hand and then he put it away. I think he either did that after he saw the other official throw the flag or he didn't wan't to be crucified by the fans and media for doing his job.

Truth of the matter is, is that the official would have been repremanded for by the big ten for not throwing their flag.

How many times do we want to have the officials head for swallowing their whistles at the end of games for not making critical calls. And now we want this officials head for making a call.

Which way do you want it? Probably the way that helps your team the most! Quit whining Huskys and Yewts. The official was RIGHT!
The AP Poll | 8:36 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Is no longer part of the BCS equation. ECU is below BYU in the Coaches' Poll that is. Therefore, BYU is still in the driver's seat, with much tougher opponents than ECU has lying ahead.

The AP made themselves look silly this week with too much over reacting.
stat boy | 8:36 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Extra points are blocked only about 1/2 % of the time. They are missed about only 1% of the time.

35 yard field goals are blocked about 1/2 % of the time...the very same! They are missed about 2.2% of the time.

In the last ten years the Cougars have had 2 kicks blocked from 35 to 40 yards.

The utes have had one! The Blocking on the field goal attempt by Washington was terrible and that is what led to the block!
Just a BYU fan to Ute Fans | 8:36 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I have been a BYU fan since I was a young child and my fater was in post graduate school. That makes me a fan for the past forty some years.

Thank you to the little Utah fans who have come on this blog to give their vast insights, their unbiased opinions, and updated us with every morsel they hear and see, be it Craig James, (last time I saw him in uniform was flashing his #1 sign for the cameras with about 3 minutes left in the Holiday Bowl), or Lou Holtz (Football's version of the crazy old coach ie. Dick Vitale), AP Updates, etc...

Serious, thanks for everything, but I'm pretty contented with what the program is, 2-0, being in the top 20, having an offense that you can rely on, being on DirecTV every week. Knowing that Bronco is running a class program, knowing that Kyle is at the U of U...

NCAA in basketball, great voleyball and baseball program, etc.

Things are good.

But, hey, keep coming on and letting us know how miserable your lives are through your posts...

(Anyone know how #1 pick Alex Smith did for SF today? Didn't see his name anywhere.)

"All BYU fans are morons". Nice comment; bigot. You don't even know half of all BYU fans. It's people like you who bring out the term "BYU haters". Nice job.

Thank you Realistic Fan. If the rest of the Cougar Fan were like you, I might cheer for BYU every once in a while."

Wow, that just hurts so bad.

What can "I" personally do as a Cougar Fan to make you cheer for BYU every once in a while? We all really miss your voice, your smile, your laughter, your high five when Harline is open, when Collie picks up a 4th and 18, the way the wind blows through your hair at LES on a crisp autumn day, or the way Caffeine Diet Coke squirts out your nose when you laugh...

Pleassssseee. I'll do anything, just say you will cheer at least once in a while....

Just let me know, because 64,000 screaming fans is just not the same as 64,001.

We need ya there, bro.

(BTW, I understand your frustration. I think Ute Fans are Morons too).

If you ask me, both teams are losers!!!! Your arguments are all fun to read. Maybe you will both meet in the Las Vegas Bowl in December where you can argue again! Funny stuff. Over 400 comments already, and its all subjective!
Well.. well... | 10:42 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Looks like the so called "haters" and "yewts" now include the national media and the pollsters. TDS you may as well have lost that game cause the latest AP poll just released has you DOWN 3-4 spots! From (14 or 15) down to 18! Which begs the question B-Y-WHO???????????????? Must not be livin' right cause everyone knows that "magic" is only an illusion which decieves the eye! Well, not this week!

I hope you are not really a BYU fan, because your comment was the worst I saw out of all this mess here.

"Let's face it I wish Bronco would spend a few more hours with the team reviewing the play book or practice then another fireside! I mean my tithing isn't paying for all those football scholarships for that team so they can sit in a fireside."

If that's how you think, you might as well not even be paying tithing. The firesides are probably more important because they actually matter a lot more than a football game. Bronco is spot on with his approach to coaching at BYU. I will hate to see them lose when they do but I won't doubt their preparation or emphasis.

UTAH FAN | 1:53 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Listen, I hate BYU as much as the next guy but even if they made the kick Washingon can not stop Max Hall. BYU would have won in overtime. Yes the penalty was cheap but props for the block. BYU would have won either way. Im sick of all this East Carolina garbage.
bakerb | 3:48 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Just to clear up a couple of controversial issues:

UW was penalyzed FOUR times in the Game. In reverse order:

4th - 00:01 Offsides during On-Sides Kick

4th - 00:02 Celebration after Jake Locker scored
(The replay shows the ball fall several seconds after the "TOSS" - it must have been pretty "HIGH IN THE AIR" - simple physics)

4th - 00:19 Intentional Grounding Jake Locker
(This call happened to negate an apparent fumble recovery by BYU during the final drive)

2nd - 10:45 Illegal Substitution
(This was after UW second TD and required an extended PAT which was GOOD)

Bottom Line: Two of these four penalties resulted in extended PAT Attempts. One was inconsequential at the end of the game. The other actually was an advantage to UW.

It would be an extreme stretch to imagine that the PAC-10 Officiating Crew went out of the way to undermine UW chance to win.

So much junk on here but it is like the Sarah Palin pick. When this much energy shows up, must be a good thing.

While less than 1% of BYU supporters think BYU is going to win a national championship this year, the rest of us are pretty happy with the team.

I always find it interesting, and sad, that it would seem most Ute fans are not so much in love with their team, but simply hate BYU. How sad that they really don't like football, just love to hate. I guess what ever motivates them.

BYU won, Washington lost and that's the end of the story. As for BYU being favored by 22, last betting line saw was 9 points. So they didn't cover the spread, and they should have but what ever.

BYU will have their hands full against UCLA but should do fine. Expect the refing to be extra cautious now, because of this controversy. But same old cliche comes into play: We score more than them we should be fine.

Our offense can't make 3 or 4 dumb plays.

Our defense has to play like men, not boys.

We win.

Other wise, we lose. Simple.

Please note the "lending hand" number 76 (Huskies) offers to Jorgenson! This went on ALL day.
CougarBlue | 8:33 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
After my yelling and screaming at BYU I settled back and watched them eek out a win. Now that they have the W we can again sit back and watch the polls.

Fact 1: The current BCS system came into being because of BYU's 1984 National Championship.

Fact 2: The BCS system evolved from the "Big Name" conferences, so annointed by themselves and the media to ensure that non annointed leagues would never again have an opportunity to become national champions. The gutless and spineless NCAA caved into this monopoly and continues to allow it to exist.

Fact 3: The only reason the non annointed leagues are now permitted to even to considered to have a chance at the BCS bowls is because Congress started to look at the monopoly system of the BCS. The BCS saw the writing on the wall and devised a system whereby others could make it.

Fact 4: Utah became the first BCS buster and won. Hawaii was next and failed.

Fact 5: Never again will that happen The BCS is a zealot who will never again allow a non anointed team to their party. BYU will never, ever be in the top 10.
On Winning | 8:33 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." I think Lombardi said that. Congratulations to Bronco Mendenhall for what he has done as a coach.

BYU didn't throw any flags, they blocked the kick. If UW kicks the ball, straight on, gets it up, and blocks at the line, they keep going. Oops, they didn't, end of game.

Locker is an amazing quarterback! In a moment of excitement he threw the ball up. Rule: Automatic penalty according to the NCAA. End of story. Isn't it interesting we like penalties when they are for us, but hate when they're against us.

BYU will beat UCLA this week. Craft is totally different than Locker. BYU had four sacks against one of the best scrambling quarterbacks I have seen, and would have had more except for being held so often, but they weren't called. Too bad, it goes both ways. Just play the game.

Final score, 28-27, streak continues! Congrats to Jorgensen and the supposed terrible defense for coming up with a great play as they had to. You have done what you're supposed to. Keep WINNING!!
Hugh G Hater | 8:36 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Look, I am a college football expert. At least by this blogs's standards: I watch alot of college football on tv and I am involved in little league games (read: scream at refs and defenseless kids).

Having gotten that out of the way, what concerns me is the coaching of the Cougars. The defense was a no-show. Collie was taken out way too late. He must be Bronco's home teacher to get favored like that.

Go dwill!

To all the Ute lovers claiming to be "cougar fans" who say BYU cheated or somehow didn't deserve to win. Give a rest! Put up or shut up time is coming in November. Till then--pipe down.

You don't bench a proven playmaker until long after it's become apparent he just isn't having a good day. You stay with the horse that got you there, until he pulls up lame.
CO Coug | 9:45 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Refs didn't block the kick, BYU did, Huskies lost that game.
Sanchez | 9:58 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Did Washington play well enough to win but get robbed?

Consider...
*Total offense: BYU 475, Washington 337
*BYU 4.9 yards per run, Washington 3.8 yards per run
*Third down efficiency: BYU 12-14, Washington 9-15
*Max Hall 0 times sacked vs. Jake Locker 4 times sacked

Whoever said the officials "handed the game to BYU" didn't watch the same game the rest of us did.
Against Refs!!! | 10:03 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
I love how Washington got away with murder the entire game. Hold after hold on Jorgensen. Case and point proved. Look at the block at the end. Notice a nice jersey hold by Washington?! That was happening the entire game!!!! BYU couldn't be stopped on offense (except by themselves), but their defense will hurt them this year. Contraversial call at the end? Yes. Contreversial no-calls on Washington? THE ENTIRE GAME!!!
AP poll | 10:15 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
BYU dropped in this week's AP poll. Obviously their unimpressive win didn't win over too many AP voters.
same utah babies | 10:41 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
i echo Ryan WHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA!

are these the same Utah babies that cry every year that they got cheated. Basically BYU had one more big play AGAIN. This year it will be Dennis Pittas turn to be wide open
Controversy | 11:57 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
"Game". If you watched the game you would have notice many cotroversial situations not called on UW - many holding situations. So BYU finally gets a fair call in their favor, which is cited in the NCAA rulebook. UW didn't get cheated they got beaten.
Wait a minute here..... | 12:22 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Washington is one of the toughest places to play for ANY team. Ask USC or Cal about playing in Husky Stadium. BYU beats Washington by 14 at home easily. You have the huge crowd that is RIGHT on top of you. You have the Pac 10 ref's who ...well in a word CHEAT for their conference. Clips that weren't called that resulted in Washington TD's. Holding , holding and more holding for Washington's O-LINE - again no calls. I guarantee both BYU and Utah beat Washington by 14+ at home this year. Anyway, you take the win and prepare for the next game. I really think that UCLA is going to challenge USC for the Pac 10 title this year (USC will win however). This will be a tough game. Utah is going to stumble this year against some team like Air Force or CSU like they ALWAYS do. No consistancy for the Utes.
re:Well.. well... | 10:42 p.m. | 12:26 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Isn't 18 still in the Top Twenty?

Let us know when Utah passes the mark.

I sure the Utah State Victory or Weber State will put you there, cupcake.
re:AP Poll | 12:34 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Control what you can control, don't worry about what you can't.

Just keep putting "W"s on the board.

BYU has a top Twenty program.

Only one in the state.

If they beat UCLA, they move up, if they lose, they go backward.

Either way, I have a beautiful wife, wonderful daughters, a post graduate degree, a home, both cars paid off, food in the pantry, and a HD Bigscreen with DirecTV...

Ranked or unranked, I'm what you poor Ute fans don't seem to understand-- Happy.
Joke | 12:46 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
BYU would have won the game if it went into overtime, they looked like the better team despite a spirited comeback attempt by Washington.

Utah looked a lot better than Michigan, but struggled in the second half against a spirited comeback attempt.

But sadly, after watching both Utah and BYU for the last two weeks as they both played pretty average games against average or below average teams... I find it hard to believe that either team is a BCS buster this season.

Air Force and TCU will be tough games, I don't think either the Utes or cougars will make it through the conference undefeated this year.
