Comments about ‘High school football: Alta cruises to shutout of Kearns’

Afu had a great game and it was good to see him with the ball. He adds to this year what we lost last year in the RB position. I think he is the hardest runner in the backfield we have this year. I also think all the fans will agree with me, run him more. With Olsen passing & running like he is right now, what a great arsenal we have when we add Afu to the running game. Great game Hawks once again, great game defense.

I thought the JV and many Sophs played tough as they played the whole second half against Kearns. Kearns blogged all week that they were going to kill ALTA........this one could have been 100-0 if Hamilton hadn't pulled the plug!

Great game Alta. Nice warm up game. Hopefully the brackets are friendly enough to have Layton play Alta in the Championship again. Maybe now some Salt Lake people will start to recognize last year wasn't just a 1 year in & out dillio for Layton. With the dynamic backfield duo of LaVaughn Jackson (which will be back in a month)and Karl Williams (your Shakerin), and the pinpoint accuracy of Applegate at QB....not to mention the stellar D of Layton.....there's a serious storm brewing already if the rematch is on.

I think the 100 points is a far stretch considering Kearns played us better than Bingham did in the first half!!! Seriously Kearns could battle for their Region championship if they get an offense to move the ball!

Layton would have lost to Bingham last year. The Lancers were gifted a playoff road to the state title with decisive victories over a broken Skyline team, and an American Fork team rid of several starters. Understandably they could not keep up with the hawks in the title game. The two best were Alta and Bingham.

Alta is the legit 5A team.

Apparantly you didn't read the article nor were you at the game. Alta's starters played through the end of the 3rd quarter.

Yes, Layton played Alta last year in the state playoffs. But they aren't the second best team in the state anymore. That's what graduation will do to you. If Layton makes it far enough to play Alta they might was well hand Alta the title. For football's sake, let's hope it is an Alta/Bingham matchup in the state championships.

Alta congrats on your season, it appears you have reloaded and are ready to make another championship run. Alta played a great game against Layton last year, but please stop saying Bingham would have beat Layton last year, because no one knows what would have happend in that match up. Layton beat all the teams that were put in front of them last year, with the exception of Jordan and Alta. We just avenged last years lost to Jordan...Your next!

Hate to break it to you Layton fan but what everyone else is saying is right... Bingham would have wasted you last year, as far as saying there's no way to know that, they played us a lot better both games then you did in state. They would have slaughtered you just like we did. You did get an easy path to state. And as far as comparing the two teams, there is no comparison. Look at the state game. One man rushed more then the "Four horsemen" and your average rushing yard's were held to negative nine! (OUCH that's pretty bad) with the exception of one touchdown from the kickoff you guys got spanked, hard... To Sorry Layton Fans: I agree with you hopefully it's Bingham and Alta in state.

As far as last years state game all I'm going to say is this, negative nine rushing yards on average for Layton...

Last year, yeah, Jordan & Alta were only teams to beat Layton. People forget how close Layton got to beating Jordan on Cottonwood's field. The last minute gasp was a missed Layton TD catch in the endzone, tipped away by a defender.

Anonymous, I'm pretty sure you've said in the past not to focus on injuries, as every team has them. Layton had some last year too, so nix the idea of Bingham & Skyline having injuries. Skyline was broken last year when playing Layton. Do you recall the 49-0...can you say SPANKING? Sure they're broken. It was obvious. American Fork? OK, so can't recall exact score, but Layton spanked some AF butt.

Layton earned their ticket into the big show, just as Alta did. Alta had some seriously huge studs, and manhandled Layton. Layton never got into their game. Bingham wasn't good enough to roll thru their bracket. Layton was.....and yes, Alta is the team to beat this year, which makes it even more interesting. I'd like to see Alta win all their games this year.....will make it an even tastier challenge if there's a rematch this year.

What I like about Bingham, is there are supporters out there......and you guys like to talk smack, which is awesome! I do think Bingham will beat Jordan, but just be careful, Jordan DOES NOT want to start 0-3 against Utah schools. Maybe they'll win one OFF of the new turf & on somebody else's turf.

Again, I'd love to see a Layton-Bingham matchup, only to see the winner play Alta for the championship. Let's hope the brackets are friendly that way. Alta-Northridge & Layton-Bingham. That's the final four as it is right now. Maybe 4 weeks from now, things will change.

Layton is a good team as is Alta and Bingham. The season is long and hard so much can change from week to week.

As one of the coaches of one of the above teams please lets remember these kids are giving there all each and every game.

You fans need to stop bashing each others teams, try to remember it is just a game pure and simple. As coaches we teaching more than just football we are teaching life skills first and foremost.

Ammon Olsen really is such an amazing player and i hate to say it but alta is dominating this season!!! this really is a great win... good job boys... i am a hard core bingham fan but i can honestly say i would be just as stoked if alta took state agian this year...

TBLLF, you did not earn your ticket in to the big show. You never had to play Bingham once. As far as most people are concerned the big show was the semifinal game with Bingham and Alta. Bingham couldn't roll through their bracket no, because it was to two best teams in the state and Alta won. If they were in your bracket the would have crushed you. It's easy for you Layton fans to say that you were better then them last year because you made it to state and they didn't but the fact is that you never played them. We did twice and I can tell you right now they gave us a run for our money more then you guys could have ever dreamed of. Alta has a grudging respect for bingham and vice versa but you guys from Layton were just a joke.

You know what I love about another Alta - Layton matchup? I like the fact that a blue collar, hard working city backing their boys......can match up to and possibly beat a rich boy Alta school. Being a Pittsburgh Steeler fan, that's why I loved seeing my team beat the Cowboys.

Ha ha that's right I'm here. I stand by what I said Layton was a joke. Can you show me anything good from that state game on Layton's behalf besides the first ten seconds? For the record I did go to Alta but I'm not a rich boy I work in a warehouse actually with a guy from Layton and there again Alta dominates Layton. I cant get him to do half of what I do at work. If were nothing but a bunch of rich boys what does that say about Layton. We stomped you so blue collar doesn't count for much I guess ha ha.

Outside of the first 10 seconds, Layton also held Alta to their lowest scoring output of the season, 19 pts. Just because Bingham gives Alta trouble, doesn't mean Bingham would beat Layton. Bingham, Alta and Layton should all be there in the end, and if Layton and Bingham match up before the Championship game, we won't whine and complain, unlike some teams we know.
