A true Alaska fan of Sarah Palin | 12:19 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
If ONLY 1 in 4 people in the "lower 48" states of these United States of America think Sarah will do an effective job as a Vice President, then PLEASE just send her back home to us Alaskans. We'll take her back with open arms because we don't want to lose her anyway. WE LOVE YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY SARAH. We support you all the way no matter what you do.
Grimble | 12:27 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
And now it turns out the McCain camp will not permit Palin to be interviewed by the press any time in the forseeable future! They've hustled her off to an "undisclosed location" to cram for the VP debate, as if she were getting ready for the SAT test. They've told the press not to expect interviews any time soon.

Huh. For someone with so much executive experience, she sure seems to be running scared from any scrutiny.
???? | 12:40 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
So WHY are we so negative about Palin, Obama, etc.? Are we that negative or is it the media? It seems that we need to look more for positive.

Lets see? I have never taken a political science class and still I could feel in for Obama and vote present!

Truth hurts.
re: oh please | 12:51 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Funny, nobody else nationally critisize this point, but granted its your opinion.
In any event, I would much rather have her situation then obams's well known associations with self proclaimed terrorists.

Talk about a heartbeat from disaster!
Cats | 12:52 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
To "Oh Please:" I can see you had your talking points emailed to you this morning from the DNC--or was it The Daily Kos? You are clearly either misinformed or just plain have as hard time with the truth.

Sarah has obviously scared the Democrats TO DEATH.

Decisions | 12:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
At least Sarah Palin made a decision, right or wrong, and didn't vote present!
Blake | 12:59 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
You can tell by the comments here the socialists are scared to death of Pallin. Not because of her experience but because we can win with her on the ticket.
Hipocracy | 1:00 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Funny how democrats are so pro choice, pro gay marriage and notedly pro feminism. However, when a female is put on the republican ticket, they say go back home and raise your family. But I guess we should of suspected, most demos flipflop.
To Turn Off at 5: 40 | 1:00 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I very seriously doubt that this poster is a moderate Republican, but instead is a rabid Democrat, that is, a wolf in sheep's clothing. I am a moderate Republican and vehemently disagree with him/her on interpretation of the feelings of rural America and our international allies. Turn Off at 5:40a.m., get yourself a life and smile once in awhile. McCain/Palin will not only attend to the "serious issues" better than The Great One who walks on water and parts the seas and his Washington-insider VP nominee Joe Biden but will do so with a sense of humor and the respect of the American people. The last I checked we are not electing a citizen of the world with his leftist, global ideas but a president of the United States of America who in his/her oath of office swears to protect the United States of America against all enemies--both foreign and domestic--that includes The Great One BHO.
Numbers don't lie | 1:09 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
The epic nomination battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton helped put millions more Democrats on the voter rolls while Republican registration declined.

Nationwide, there are about 42 million registered Democrats and about 31 million Republicans, according to statistics compiled by The Associated Press.

True Alaskan Sarah Palin Fan | 1:10 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
The country of free Speech. Ya gotta love it. WHY is it when I, a true Alaskan, puts up a post FAVORING Sarah it seems to "disappear" from the comment posts. Does anybody on the Deseret News staff want to share what is wrong with my posts?
Offended | 1:10 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008

What an offensive comment. Who made you judge?
Obama experience? | 1:16 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Obama has spent the last 10 years perfecting his speach performace---and zero time perfecting his managment ability.

I don't know about you but I would rather have a grey haired old guy with some experience under his belt as our President over another "slick willy" with no substance.
Superwoman | 1:34 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
And according to all Republicans....Palin can also leap tall buildings in a single bound!!
Get this straight | 1:50 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
It is McCain that is running against Obama, not Palin against Obama. If she was running against Obama she would still win. She has really taken the Great One down a few notches. You Utahns are squirrelry!
Re: A true Alaskan | 1:58 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
You're confusing people here when you say the lower 48 states. After all, Obama says there are 57 states therefore, that must mean there are 55 lower U S states!
Check this out... | 2:06 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Interesting that the Washington Post (imagine that), of all unlikely news sources, has a FAR more Palin-friendly take on this same ABC News poll than the AP (or the Deseret News, whose copy desk wrote the head and sub-head). Check out the Post article entitled: "Partisanship Appears to Sway Opinions on Palin"
Kathy in Virginia | 2:28 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
What experience did Reagan have to be president?
Have we forgotten how well he served without Washington experience? How quickly many of us forget! He certainly did not know about foriegn policy. He was a movie star who wanted to make a difference.
Palin just might surprise the skeptics. She is a Governor and a Mom who wants to make a difference!
Next time you feel she does not have experience think about what Reagan did!

Re: Cats | 2:37 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Speaking as a Democrat, I'm anything but *scared* of Palin. In fact, I couldn't be happier she was picked; she's already a joke and she'll end up being a disaster for McCain before long.

If anybody is scared, it's the McCain campaign. Pick a running mate and then hide her from the press? Nothing fishy there...
Re: Hipocracy | 3:22 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Hear, hear. Couldn't have put it better myself!!!
AL | 3:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
To the person who wrote to Landslide: Get your facts straight. Obama has been in the Senate for 3 years(not 8 years as you stated) and most of that he has been on the campaign trail running for President. He really has zero experience. No arguement from anyone about this because these are the facts. He has been executuve of nothing, nowhere at anytime. NO EXPERIENCE!!!

To Kathy in Virginia: Ronald Reagan was Governor of California for 8 years. I agree that he had no/little foreign policy experience, though. He was also President of the Screen Actors Guild, some leadership experience there. I also agree that he was a very good President with limited experience. For you information Michael Reagan, son of Ronald Reagan, has stated that Sarah Palin reminds him of his father, in the female form. This should be a great compliment to her.

We have also had other Presidents that had little foreign policy experience that we have elected in the past: Jimmy Carter, the peanut farmer, turned Governor of Georgia, and Bill Clinton, lawyer turned Governor of Arkansas. Palin running for VP does not scare me she is not running for President, McCain is!!!!!!!!!!!!
Polls | 3:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Democrats put millions more voters on the rolls than Republicans.
Yes....
And Hillary got 18 million of those votes- beat Obama.
But the Super Delegates picked Obama because I guess he was better looking....
I guess the DNC thinks we are stupid-
McCain gets my democrat vote-
And yes, you need to be scared to death.
SLMG | 4:05 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I am not a "Utah Democrat or Republican" I am totally independent. I was still undecided in this election until McCain chose Sarah Palin as his VP. If his choices are that bad I will not vote for him. Her family values are not my family values, to parade a 5 month pregnant daughter and her boy friend on national TV is not the example that I want shone to my 17 & 19 year old granddaughters. Her daughters pregnancy is a family matter so please keep it there. Sarah Palin has no experince for the VP position, she has no class and carries to much baggage of unresolved problems to be a heart beat away from the president. Thanks to McCain's poor choice he lost my vote.
To: Numbers don't lie | 5:00 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
You are right, numbers don't lie.....but AP has been caught many times at it. You should be careful citing anything AP writes.........
to True Alaska Fan 12:19 p.m. | 5:04 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Please -- take her back. You're more than welcome to her. Please, please, please come and get her.
to slmg | 5:05 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Unfortunately Sarah Palin does not have perfect children like you claim/expect. If you had read something, you would realize the reason the daughter was acknowledged as pregnant was because the media was claiming Sarah's youngest child was the daughters. Sarah has good family values, I am sure she teaches "correct principles and then lets them govern themselves." Unfortunately, as millions of Americans realize, children don't always make good decisions, and thats why millions of Americans relate to her and not to your perfect family.
If you want to open up baggage, lets talk about Obamas associations with terrorists, or his wife embarrasment to be American, or his racists preacher.
An you want to question Palin's character?
BobP | 5:20 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Just wait until Sarah Barracuda Palin guts Biden. It won't be pretty.

4 out of 10 isn't good enough...
Brother Chuck Schroeder | 5:23 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I don't really care what the outside news polls say, the ONLY POLL that'll really count is at the voteing booth's this November, and, if four in 10 say Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has enough experience to be president, than she'll have to work harder, take plenty of notes, watch, learn and listen, so when President McCain has a heart attack from old age per se, she will be ready to fill his shoe in that chair in The White House - either way, we'll still get true change in Washington DC, not from a liberal, but from the Republican's.
Maybe nobody cares... | 5:35 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
because their too busy spouting the Republican party line, but Obama has had 12 years of legislative experience. A lot? No. Enough. Yes. After college he worked to help others and has gotten nothing but scorn from the Bepubs for it. Plus, knowing Chicago, probably had a larger constituency in his state legislative job than Palin had in her whole state. I"m looking forward to someone who has not been involved with Washington politics. McCain...look up his role in the whole Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac. Gosh people, do your homework. McCain is not change. I really think someone needs to call MCain and Co. on all the lies and half-truths they're telling. I realize we've become a nation of sound-bites, but we have the resources to learn what the truth is.

McCain/Palin 08!
jefejivaro | 5:45 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Cut us a break SLMG--regardless of your "party" affiliation, you're a liberal hiding behind useless labels (if you weren't a liberal Sarah Palin would have resonated with you--acid test). You weren't offended by Senator McCain choosing Sarah Palin, you were offended because he didn't choose a liberal, as he had hinted he might.

As you've no doubt read, when he floated the McCain-Lieberman concept last week he got shot down by several factions key to his support base. His other liberal choices got similar reactions. So the only scenarios where he HAD your vote were non-starters.

If you want a read of how much mileage the Republican ticket got from Sarah Palin, both the Most Commented and Most Viewed categories on YouTube were dominated by various videos of her RNC speech for the following couple of days. Who knows how many views she got in addition to the 37 million who watched her live.

The most brilliant part of McCain's VP strategy, as pointed out by one of the pundits, may be that Sarah Palin was the only choice that energized the ticket enough to create a "coattail" effect to would win back a few seats in Congress.
Must be so | 6:33 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
From what I read in the Deseret News, McCain is wise. He felt Palin was had the best resume. Comparatively, what could Mitt offer McCain and the GOP?

It's great to see that most Utahans agree.
Hmmmm | 6:39 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
jefejivaro- so "resonating" with Sarah Palin is the litmus test to whether or not you're a conservative now? Must we have mindless idolatry in both parties this election cycle?
4 in 10? | 8:41 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
4 in 10? really? That should give rational people nightmares.

It might be the same ratio of people who believe in little green men, that the moon is made of swiss cheese, and that Elvis is still alive.

4 in 10? I am a true believer in marketing!!! What a sales job the gop has done. whew!!!!
LDSTexan | 8:53 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
People are forgetting the experience Obama has --- he's been a community organizer!!!! Boy that's the kind of experience I want my Pres. to have. I want a Pres who can face up to the enemy like McCain i.e., POW!! Has Obama done that? Has he served in the military? He's an empty suit. What bills has Obama passed in the SENATE - O ZIPPO! SO ROCK ON MCCAIN! Let's compare McCain to Obama and Palin to Biden! ROCK ON PALIN!!!!!!!!
More of the same? | 8:55 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
McCain had my vote, that is until he presented his selection for VP. What were they thinking?

He rightly denounces Obama for lack of experience and then selects someone with even less experience to be his VP.

McCain is not in perfect health. If elected he may survive the stresses of that office for the full term. However, even if the chance is very small that the VP may have to fill the position, there is that possibility. Therefore the VP must have as much experience as possible.

Given some of the information on the internet regarding Palin's past political dealings and some of her responses to the media that have not been totally truthful, that also makes me reluctant to vote for McCain w/ Palin as VP. I want the liars and deceivers out of Washington and don't want to replace them with more of the same.

Though I consider myself republican, I think that Ralph Nader or some other candidate will get my vote this year. He will likely not win, but I'll have voted my conscience.

We will get the president that we deserve. Lord please help us all.

Freeman | 10:15 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Grimble, I guess the McCain camp figures that if Oprah refuses to have Palin on her show, why settle for less?

The (liberal) media will have plenty of time to gnash their collective teeth at Palin. Plus, if the Palin reportage is not having the desired effect, they can always make something up (see Dan Rather).
Jess | 10:26 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
If the democrat party doesn't like McCain/Palin, why didn't they nominate someone who is better? The ability to give a good talk does not make someone a good administrator or great leader or honest or moral or trustworthy which is what I am looking for. I didn't want to vote for Bush but the democrat party gave us Gore and Kerry who were worse than Bush. Not since Regan has there been a nominee from either party that I could enthusiastically support. It seems like I always end up voting for the candidate who I think will do the least amount of harm. Unfortunately, this election is the same.
Billy the Kidd | 10:58 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
We can always tell when a person is made out of the right stuff, especially when they are running for office against a democrat. that is why i knew when we elected George Bush near 8 years ago, we elected the right Man! the libs and the press set out on a mission to destroy Him. they carried on this plan of attack against Him from day one and are still trying to complete the dirty task of destruction but I have news for them, President Bush, wll be the Victor! Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!
Palin is great. | 11:06 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
I was on the Obama wagon. Palin has swong my vote. I love the Pitbull. Best move ever McCain
TO LDS Texan. | 11:12 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Seriously? You want to get into that argument? Did GWB serve in the military? Did Palin serve in the military? Did her husband? A community organizer was Obama's job right out of college. He's had others. Have you ever been a community organizer? An activist of any kind? He's been closer to the poor and middle class and the real problems this nation has than McCain has ever been. McCain thinks the middle class makes a million dollars. Cindy was in a $300,000 dress. McCain is running his whole campaign based on his POW status and I'm losing respect for him daily.
Palin over Biden? Are you nuts? Biden has served the same amount of time that McCain has. The difference is he hasn't been George W's lapdog. Plus, he respected his family by not having numerous affairs...not to mention he didn't marry into his money, he worked for it.
At one point Republicans need to STOP and THINK. Contrary to what the Republicans are thinking, this election is not about personality, it's about issues. Anyway, if it were about personality, McCain is still dead in the water, he's a hothead.
Father of 5 | 11:14 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
When the Camera came in for a close up of Sarah and Her youngest child, I think that I had the honour of peeking into heaven for a minute or so.I was humbled to the point that Icould not speak for a short time. I shall forget that time in my life.
Audrey | 11:29 p.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Peggy Noonan was right in her evaluation of this choice.
Grimble | 12:14 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Father of 5,

That's a lovely thought, really, but if you're basing your vote on cinematography, this country's really in trouble.
Freeman | 1:02 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Grimble,

I'm pretty sure Father of 5 was commenting on Palin's baby (who has Down syndrome), not the camera work (by the way, cinematography employs actual film, while videography--what you meant--involves electronic media). How were you able to find something cynical in that? Put the Kool-Aid down, and step away...
Let's talk | 6:45 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
I want to hear both parties' stand on the issues. Not barbs thrown back and forth. Facts.
The right stuff | 10:04 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Twenty-two years of being wrong in the Senate doesnt make McCain a better candidate Experience is not the issue in this election Some experience is inferior experience and should not be used as a template for future action, other experience has no meaning in a future context The idea that the U.S. should be run like a business is not valid Look where we are today with a governor as president! Give me a break! The ability to discern, to reason, and to act correctly is whats important I havent seen that in the deteriorating McCain and I sure dont see it in Palin The critical challenges every president faces are the unexpected ones Palin is a huge issue because she is a product of the great Alaskan circus You want a candidate who has solid credentials in cat fighting in the last frontier? She does that extremely well You want someone who could responsibly step in and lead the free world? That aint Palin.
Rutland vs. Medfield | 11:22 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
To the D-News: What was wrong with this post that you didn't publish it here? I always include my email address. Please reply!

Yo, "Billy the Kidd" (sic). Bong water should NEVER be ingested. 'nough said.

Jess (10:26 pm) - Bush? Gore and Kerry were worse than Bush? There isn't a human being alive today that is worse than Bush (though DC & co. are up there).

Prosecuting an unjustified war that has so far cost the lives of better than 4000 soldiers, sailors, and airmen--and purposely misleading (read: lying to) the American public in order to do so is the greatest betrayal of the public trust.

When this Bush leaves office, it should be to a destination NOT of his own choosing. And the George W. Bush presidential library should be accessible only to those in orange jump suits.
