Anyone who is riding a motorcycle, particularly with a child on it, has more important responsibilities than lecturing people about littering. My sympathy for this guy is largely tempered by the fact that his injuries are the result of his own actions.
Cigarettes Hurt Motorcyclists | 10:57 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
There is nothing worse than riding your motorcycle down the road and some dirty bum throws his cigarette out the window and it hits you in the face (even if you are wearing a helmet). Not only is it littering, but it could burn the motorcyclists' eye out, cause him to panic, go down the front of his shirt, etc., and cause a crash. At least look behind you and see who is there before throwing your cig out the window. It there is a motorcycle behind you, maybe wait a min before tossing it.

Is it really OK? | 11:23 a.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Is it really OK for anyone to just flick their buts out the window of moving cars? It's not only litering, it's also dangerous and could easily start a wild fire.

The careless cigaret flip but was the first illegal action. The rest of the ugly incident both parties contributed. There should at least be some punishent for this first incident that started the whole ugly ball rolling.

In my opinion there is NEVER a reason the use your car as a weapon against a pedestrian, motorcycle, bike or even another car (no matter how annoyed or scared you are). If they can prove the driver of the car swerved to make contact with the motorcycle, he should have some serious charges comming his way.

Of course the motorcycle driver acted like an idiot too, but NOTHING justifies ramming a motorcycle with your car putting them down.

Recently my brother in law was commuting on his motorcycle and an inatentive driver (on a cell phone) quickly changed into his lane and ran him onto the sholder. Like an idiot he banged on the truck's door and yelled at the guy. He hasn't ridden since. Don't be stupid!

Now, my brethren in the medical profession will be caring for this poor soul. "Severe head injuries" is not a good diagnosis to be admitted under. This gentleman could possibly be permanently disabled or eventually die, due to the actions of both parties. (No, I have no knowledge of his condition, nor am I treating him.)

Lets take a moment and examine our own actions each and everyday. I'm sure this man was a normal person just like you and me. His buttons just got pushed at the wrong time, and so did the other persons. Was it worth it? Is it ever?

I seldom work at the U of U anymore, though I do occasionally, simply because it is hard to see these kind of things happen, and have to work with these severely damamged brains. Remember, while all of you are spewing your vitriol, that it could be you tomorrow, and you too can loose your cool and do stupid things. I see it EVERYDAY while commuting on my bike.

Take it easy out there. AND WEAR YOUR HELMETS!!!

Let's see...driving a motorcycle down the rode with a 10 year old on the back...getting into an extended, verbal confrontation with a motorist...driving the motorcycle into the opposing lane to continue the arguement...crashing the bike. Sounds like idiotic behavior to me. Thank God the kid wasn't physically hurt.

The kids WAS physically hurt, and emotionally as well. Remember, he was on the bike, and then went to his dad after it went down. His wife/mother WATCHED the whole event. I think that this whole family will have more than just physical injuries to heal from.

Mike (guy on motorcycle) is doing very badly today (1 week after the accident).

His organs have started to shut down and the doctors are not expecting him to live much longer.

Thanks for everything Mike. May you rest in peace knowing that many people love and care for you. You will truly be missed.

Bless you.
