Is Palin a liability? | 1:10 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
If Palin is such a liability to the ticket... why is the left, their minions, and the media so intently trying everything they can to discredit her? You would think they would be happy to have this "Liablility" around, instead they keep trying to tear her down. You watch the usual demands that she withdraw, resign, go away in shame will soon be comming from the Democrats.

Personally I don't see why you liberal hacks keep bringing more and more attention to Palin. She is the one ray of light the Republicans have at this point in the election, and you keep bringing her front and center? You could have a hay-day with McCain, his policies, his speach last night... and all you can do is fixate on Palin????

Grover- I love those like you who say the Republican Party shuns Mormons. Romney did not lose because he was Mormon. He lost because of the primary system and winner take all rules in some states, where nobody won a majority. Him and Huckabee split a lot of votes. I sincerely believe that if it had been McCain versus Romney only, from the beginning, Romney would be the nominee. Probably by a fairly large margin.

How many Mormons have served in Democratic administrations in the past 60 years?

Grover- Why does Obama give such a small portion of his income to charity if he cares so much about the poor? Why do Democrats, who support higher taxes on the rich, not give extra to the IRS voluntarily? It is allowed. Why is the reddest state, Utah, also the highest in charitable givings, and why do heavily blue states fall lower on the list? Not a single blue state in the top 10 when adjusted for percentage of income. These liberals care so much about the poor, but they want others to help them, they don't want to do it themselves.
Forced charity through wealth redistribution is communism. Worked for Russia.

We tried to warn you about the modern America conservative movement - but you voted for them anyway.
Here's another nice mess you've got us into.

If B. Hussein Osama is so magnanimous, why does he have a half brother reportedly living in squalor somewhere?

Lets compare resumes will we: Forget his college years. If you include those, you have qualified every well educated American to be President.

Obama- Starts attending racist, radical church. Fundraises with terrorist, William Ayers. Community organizer with smaller budget than Palin had as Mayor. State Senator who voted "present" most of the time, except when he spoke against the rights of babies who survived abortion attempts. US Senator- has done very little, never voted against his party on anything. Crosses the aisle only when most other Democrats do the same. Opposed the Surge in Iraq, and refuses to admit he was wrong about that. Has not been the primary sponsor of any piece of significant legislation (how is that leading?). Run for President.

Palin- Mayor of Wasilla, with more employees and larger budget than Obama's community organization. Commercial fishing in blue collar sector, where most Americans work. Governor of a State with a high level of natural resources and a budget larger than Obama has ever tackled. Opposed own party on many issues in Alaska.
In an attempt to show he had more experience, Obama actually compared managing his campaign to her mayoral job, forgetting that she's now a Governor.

More on the comparison of resumes

1996 - 2000
Obama: Still a Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law and elected to the Illinois Senate. Sponsored more than 800 bills.

Palin: elected as mayor. Reduced property taxes but increased sales taxes. Hired a DC lobbyist to bring $27 million in earmarks to the city. Took town from zero debt but left it with over $22 million in debt (in the mold of Bush that took surplusses and turned them into record deficits) and built a $15 million hockey center.

2001 - 2004
Obama: Became chairman of the Illinois Senate's Health and Human Services Committee. In 2004 was elected to the US Senate, receiving over 3.5 million votes (got that, more than 5x the people of the entire state of Alaska).

Palin: Director of Ted (Bridge to nowhere sponsor)Stevens' 527 group. Lost in run for LtGov in Republican primary, appointed to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

"Republicans impeached Bill Clinton" The truth: The vote for impeachment failed after republicans wasted 53,000,000 in tax dollars. What one more lie in a litany of lies and a culture of lairs?

Bush solved the problem of lying under oath. Ignore that power of congress to question your fellow outlaws.

Wrz I think he was referring to Bush's alcoholism and past cocaine use.

To: GWB | 12:46 p.m.

Osama: Community projects are now mostly empty and boarded up. Parents never married. Illegitimate birth. Hard drug user. As for Osama, great Muslim name. So is Hussein. As is Obama. Osama bin Laden would be/is proud. In fact al Qaeda terrorists have voiced support. So has Hamas. As has Lebanon's Hezbollah. Alotta strong support around the world.

Palin: Elected Governor of Alaska. Bulldog with lipstick. Ace cards, trump everything Osama has.
GWB | 2:36 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Hal, since when is oral sex between consenting adults illegal? when you say "So a bank robber or extortionist... is ok" you are making some pretty big jumps.

And @GWB: Please read where I said "Republicans impeached Bill Clinton for telling a lie about an extra-marital affair." And by the way, it was not to Congress.

That lie was Perjury by investigators under oath. And if Repubs think Perjury is such a big deal, why did Bush let Scooter Libby off the hook for Perjury?
Anon 2:14 | 2:38 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
One simple question:

Why did Bill Clinton have his law license revoked?

I don't think they do that for only having an affair. You probably have to have committed a serious ethics violation or a felony.

GWB | 2:38 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
to "to GWB" you forgot that Palin attends, and listens to sermons that are anti-semetic.
To GWB | 2:52 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
So Obama's pastor is okay, and William Ayers is to since he hasn't actually blown up things for a while.
Would I go to Palin's church? No.
Would you go to Obama's?
Would you associate with a known bomber of the Pentagon who recently stated the fact that he wish he had been even more violent in his attacks?
Would the Media ignore it if McCain closely associated, fundraised, and worked on committees with an abortion clinic bomber, even if no one was killed in those attacks?
Chris Plummer | 3:08 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I would suggest some Mormons check out the Assemblies of God website and notice their blurb about what they think of Mormons. Its not that nice. Palin being a devout member, it might change your mind. I thought Huckabee was bad, they aren't any nicer. In fact they are pretty blunt in their opinion.
Grover | 3:11 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
KVC: Take a breath man! I didn't say any of the things you post. Bottom line: people will vote whether they think they like someone or not or they are trying to send a message. They don't make a checklist like you seem to think. If the Dem wins it could be because people like the ticket or that they hate what Bush has done. Either way, the world will not end no matter who gets elected. In four more years we will be having the same arguments only the national debt will be higher no matter who it is "changing" things.
Palin = Limbaugh | 3:12 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Every statement in Palin's speech came almost verbatim from Limbaugh. She has no mind of her own.
Anonymous | 3:36 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I can just picture Palin "attacking the Washington elite (both parties).
She'll get chewed up and spit out in a heartbeat.
Then she'll be contacted by a special interest group or 12, be on their payroll, and she'll be set for life.

Ever wonder why NOBODY is making any campaign promises to outlaw every penny from lobbyists or special interests?

Wake up stupid America!
@ Anonymous | 2:14 p.m. | 3:49 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I'm going to have to face you with the facts on this one Anonymous. These are facts, not opinions or convenient memory.

The vote in Congress (not just Republicans) to impeach Bill Clinton passed. But the Senate chickened out when it came to voting to remove him from office.

If you don't believe me, go to wikipedia. Their exact words are... "Former President of the United States Bill Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives on December 19, 1998... The charges, perjury, obstruction of justice and abuse of power".

I threw in the last part in just because another common Liberal Lie is that he was impeached for his sexual indisgretions. He was not charge with that. The official charges were, "perjury, obstruction of justice and abuse of power".

You brought it up. Don't blame me for shedding some light on the whole painfull memory.

Another interesting factoid... President Nixon was never impeached (contrary to what some Democrats will tell you). He resigned before they could impeach him.

Clinton stuck with his lies to the bitter end. That's why he got impeached and why he is the only American President to be impeached since Andrew johnson in 1868.

Why would anyone have a hard time if Obama is elected in November?

1. I thought Obama promised he was going to "Change everything" so there won't be any party partisan bickering in Washington or the internet anymore.

2. If Obama doesn't deliver on promise #1, we can always act like you lefties do today and keep saying, "He's not our President, We didn't vote for him, We're not responsible for anything he does, It's all your fault"!

What goes around comes around fool.

There has always been a monumental difference between America per se and the current group of people who currently are running the show.

Those who blindly continue to support the current administration's failing policies that are running this great country into the ground while their leaders get filthy rich are the stupid Americans.

I think Anonymous | 4:59 p.m. illustrates the "Us vs Them", menatity very well in his most recent posting. He says, [There has always been a monumental difference between America per se and the current group of people who currently are running the show]. Trying to justify his comment that "American's are stupid" but then later clarifying that only the American's who don't agree with him on Bush are stupid. That's not at all divisive now is it?

Problem is, he's usually ranting about someone else doing that (some guy named Sean O'Hannity). From my reading Anonymous does more dividing than I've seen from about anyone posting on these pages.

Just an observation.

"There has always been a monumental difference between America per se and the current group of people who currently are running the show."

Can't disagree with that. Only about half of Americans voted for Bush. That phenomenon is true with almost all elections. What Bush's opponents refused to do is to put their differences behind them and unite behind a duly elected president... hence we remained a divided country... even now.

"Those who blindly continue to support the current administration's failing policies that are running this great country into the ground while their leaders get filthy rich are the stupid Americans."

Their leaders...? What leaders are getting filthy rich? Bush? He only makes about $400,000 per. That's alotta dough, but not filthy rich. If you think it is, complain to your congressperson.

Do you have any idea how we elect the President? There is an electoral college. The popular vote nationwide is not important if you cannot win the electoral vote of the states. Please have a better understanding of government before you call people liars. All it does is show your lack of intelligence.
Remember, if AL Gore had won his own state, Tennessee, he would have won. How do you lose your home state. Even Mondale won his home state, even if it was the only state he won.

The letter writer says Palin makes the Republican Party "vulnerable."

The selection is certainly a huge disappointment--particularly to those who imagine that the GOP was not hopelessly compromised from the get-go this election season.

Considering the severity of the party's self-inflicted damage, however, Palin realistically can be regarded as yet one more catastrophic error to add to the pile.

In the end, it won't make much difference either way--except that if, after the election, party leaders imagine that Palin is somehow entirely to blame, they'll miss a good opportunity to address some of the actual--and very real--problems that the Republican Party has visited upon itself.
Love your brothers? | 10:46 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Republicans are followers they will follow the party off a cliff. Lemmings come to mind.

Look at this remark:

"Besides, the main clowns we have in office today are Peloci and Reid. Oh, and the Chappaquiddick swimmer."

Peloci is Pelosi. This gives a impression of someone rejecting intellectualism.

In Reid's book, there is a chapter now a LDS bishop forever changed his life. This is followed by his testimony the the LDS Church is true.

Look how Mormons treat Reid? They are people who support other church members? I won't want you kind of support!

Does this commenter realize Senator Hatch wrote a song for Teddy Kennedy?

You know what I think is funny? The vast majority of Americans feel that all the Democrat and media focus on Palin is an attempt to attack and hurt her, not to be unbiased and honest. And the lead Obama had over McCain has lessened every single day since Palin was announced as running mate. If anything, all the focus on her is making her more popular, not less. People want to know if all the reports are true, so they look them up, and guess what? The majority so far doesn't agree. She's hardly a liability.

Mr. Obama's accomplishments . .

Community Organizer
His campaign claims two achievements: 1) Implemented program to clean up broken glass in playgrounds 2) Organized protest of Cook County Council meeting

Illinois State Senate
Didn't sponsor a single significant piece of legislation. Cosponsored lots of other people's bills. Avoided voting either yes or no 130 times by voting present.

U.S. Senate
Started running for President immediately. Has sponsored lots of bills. NOT ONE HAS PASSED. Cosponsored lots of other people's bills. Claims most significant measures are 2007 ethics reform (originated in the U.S. House; Obama made several amendments) and nuclear non-proliferation bill (sponsored by Sen.Lugar of Indiana). Chair of Senate Foreign Relations European Affairs Subcommittee. Hasn't bothered to hold even one meeting.

Obama -- despite his education --- has barely left a fingerprint in his time in public service. That is why both Joe Biden and HIllary Clinton called him unqualified to be President.

Sara Palin -- A couple folks above cited her previous support of earmarks. They ignore the fact that she reversed her course as Governor and become one of the fiercest critics of such practices -- and she has been consistent since.
KJB | 11:08 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Steve:

Hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations European Affairs Subcommittee on April 8, 2008 to review ambassadorships and US permanent representative to NATO council. Hearing held at 419 Dirksen Senate Office Building at 9:30 A.M. EST.

Senator Obama presiding.

KJB --

Yep. You are right. Held one to review administration appointments. The reason it didn't show up was because it didn't have anything to do with legislation or policy -- that is the real work of a committee.

The point still stands --- for two full years he ignored his only chairmanship because he was too busy running for President.

It shouldn't surprise me anymore that Republicans think Sarah Palin should not be questioned. Heaven forbid the public get to know the real her and find out about a candidat and their record. Scared? Obama has been talked about and we've heard about him since before the primaries. "Special, hockey mom, Sarah" just showed up a week ago. What is it McCain and others don't want us to find out? We have the right to find out what makes her tick. We don't need to leave her alone. She's the one running on family values, evangelical christian values. How long was she going to keep the pregnancy a surprise? She brought it up and people are discussing it.
A couple of things to remember, not that Republicans will care, (I sincerely hope I'm wrong and they do care) When Obama graduated for Harvard, president of the Law Review, he was well sought out for jobs from Wall Street to law offices. He gave up big and Instead he chose to give up big money and go be a community organizer in order to help people. Sarah's job after college was to give the sports on a small Alaska TV station.

For me...this election is a win win for those of us that want cultural change. We get an African American or a Woman. So everyone that believes in cultural equality wins.

I do question what kind of a mother Palin wil be to that cute Down Syndrome child of hers. When she's traveling the world, doing what a VP does, what kind of "personal" touch will that child get? Shouldn't her first and formost important job be to to help this child? I question her conservitive values that place politics before her handicaped child.

Why should religion have anything to do with who we select for President? I chose to observe my faith in my own way and with my own set of values. I am a devote Catholic. I do not believe in abortion. The government can not change my beliefs. I have been taught to welcome anyone into my faith if they feel the calling, but I cannot, nor will not impose my will upon someone to make them believe what I believe. Therefore, government to me serves other purposes and based upon those purposes alone, the Democrats are a much better party. They believe in supporting our workers here in the United States, not abroad. They believe in standing up for the those who have the least in our society. They believe in the American dream of home ownership, a college education, and equality for all americans. Leave faith to the faithful, leave government to the Democrats.
