Thank you Julianna for not mentioning that you are mormon in this article. My biggest pet peave is when people say the are mormon for the noteriety it brings and then their actions prove (In this case the way you dress) otherwise. ss

Sally, I'm LDS and I don't think this reflects negatively. Have you ever seen a tango dancer that dresses in knee length dresses and elbow length sleeves? Neither have I. And I lived in Argentina, the birthplace of the tango. I think it's great that she is living her dreams. I haven't seen her receive any negative press, so I say congratulations to her.

wrong about Julianna. The Hough family is a fine LDS family. I know. I used to dance with Julianna's older sisters, we studied at the same ballet studio. They, and I, (a guy) used to always wear tights and leotards to class, which show every curve and line on the human body. I can say from experience that the Hough girls were classy and modest in every sense of the word.

While I agree it would have been admirable for her to select a more modest costume for her performances, I don't think we can imply she is a hypocrite, (as your post implies, Sally) merely because she "dresses for the sport." While her costumes are immodest, I don't think we can accuse her of being an immodest person on that basis alone. Many LDS performers choose to make a statement by selecting modest clothing, others do not. That choice alone does not make a person more or less modest.

Remember, the Lord looks not on the outward appearance, but at the persons heart.

Hmmm....costume or everyday wear. Hate to say it but I haven't seen to many people in the grocery store dressed the way she does for Dancing With the Stars. Some how I think her everyday clothes are a little bit different than what she wears on stage.

She could definitely be more modest. I'm sure there is lots of pressure from producers and such to wear the clothes they want but she could be more modest no question.

Not saying that I mind it because she is ferociously hot, but its not a good reflection on her religion. Is she active though? For some reason I doubt it.

I am not going to judge Julianne for her dress on the show, I do admire Ashly for choosing to be more modest, but that doesn't make Julianne wrong. What bothered me about Julianne was the naked looking pose draped in a US flag, I felt that was soft porn and not respectful to our flag. I don't care if it was a Mormon girl or if it was Britney Spears, either way, that pose was not appropriate.

I do admire Julianne for speaking up about her values, but sometimes what you do and what you say cancel each other out, and I felt that the flag took away from what she had to say.

I still like Julianne and am glad she is going to be back on the show, I just hope she will be a little wiser with flags next time.

The costumes for your sport is one thing....but the sleeveless tops and tiny shorts are something completely different, not to mention the tiny bikinis she wore for Shape magazine a few months ago. I'm guessing she probably is a great girl, but it is disappointing to see her where those type of skimpy clothes off the dance floor. But really, it's nobody's business but hers and the Lord's!

I think Sally's comment is funny, and I tend to agree. Not that I look down on Julianne for dressing the way she does, it's Hollywood-that's the way they dress. But I'm glad she doesn't run around in her Daisy Duke's saying "I'm a sweet little linnocent Mormon."

In fact, I respect her more for that.

I think Juliane always looks BEAUTIFUL. I'm glad there are people like her, and Marie Osmond, who serve as role models to other LDS women. We need to quit being so "uptight" about how we dress. It really isn't that big of a deal.

while dancing is no big deal in my eyes, it's a costume. But the teeny bikini on Shape Magazine, the flag draped picture and her teeny tiny every day-wear tank and shorts that we wears in L.A. do not reflect the modesty standards that are TAUGHT to one who is mormon. It's her choice though to dress however she wants. She is a very talented dancer and singer and personally my favorite on DWTS!

I would love to see the entire hough family perform someday. As for her lifestyle choices... and the active mormon issue. I don't think she is active and her clothes aren't modest... Leave her alone and let her live her life. If God wants you to judge her he'll let you know. What a talent.

Dance costumes are crazy sexy... but I don't view them as immodest. Like many sports, what the athletes wear showcases their human form.

I mean, who didn't see half of shawn johnson's backside? How tiny of a swim trunk have you seen phelps wear?

It's something to be admired - not thought of as innappropiate... thinking otherwise is a bit weird - an overreaction to seeing an athlete's body.

I find it heartbreaking that some LDS people in showbiz go along with what everyone else is wearing. you can add a little bit of material here and there and still not look like you are dressing to go out in the snow. It can be done. Other young LDS girls watch these shows too. I have heard people say to other parents "stop sheltering your kids from the real world," but the real world should show different ways so kids can make a choice instead of just seeing all the same nakedness. Don't you just love to hear about someone that stood up for their beliefs no mater what everyone else was doing and they still became famous?

Modesty is overrated?????? You're right, most of the commandments are. They are just restrictive and old-fashioned. We ought to pare them down to just a couple of commandments--they would be easier to remember that way. Oh wait...we didn't make the commandments..God did.

So Mr. male LDS, I guess pornography probably doesn't bother you either. It's okay for women to be objects, it's okay for us to volunteer to be objects. Sexual addiction and broken homes and teen pregnancies all start with immodesty on someone 's part--but you're right, it's just over-rated.

What Julianna does is her business. She is the only one that can make decisions for herself and she alone will receive the appropriate consequences, whatever they may be. She's a wonderful entertainer and I hope she's successful.

Its hilarious and contradictory to those that say she dresses immodest, but then at the end tone it down by saying things like only God can judge her. reminds me of the Seinfeld episode, "not that there's anything wrong with that"

Focus on the positive, her success and her Utah ties. I agree with the poster who wishes they never have a family member in the news in Utah.

I'm a long time active Mormon with fairly senior callings and all I can say is I am a big fan of her music and dancing. I admit, I first learned about her from my sister and then daughter on DWTS. Then I heard her music. I don't care what she wears as nobody within or without the church has asked me to judge her. In fact, I think the higher-ups have told me not to judge her. Congrats Julianne and keep doing your stuff.

There is a difference between dressing functionally for your sport and letting it all hang out. I really feel it's not our place to judge anyone! Those who claim that a dancer wearing nothing but tassles is the same as a basketball player wearing a sleeveless jersey are just trying to rationalize their bad judgment.
