Community Organizer? | 10:06 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
here's a few people who were community organizers...maybe you know some of their accomplishments:

Ben Franklin
Paul Revere
Sojourner Truth
Susan B. Anthony
Gandhi
Martin Luther King Jr.
Cesar Chavez
Wangari Maathi
Lech Walesa

And of course, the original community organizer, Jesus.

we would not have a Democracy if it weren't for the community organizer.

Sarah Palin and Guiliani pissed off a lot of people when they mocked the community organizer.

you want Grassroots? You want people to take action, when government doesn't listen? you want people to step in instead of counting on the government?

Then you need the community organizer.

Why does the Keating 5 keep coming up?

Do you forget that 4 of the 5 were Democrats? Or that McCain was one of 2 that were completely cleared? Alan Cranston, D-Calif, was the one most responsible for this.

Is that all the Dems have on McCain?

The main object is to Stop Obama and the obamanation that he represents. However that is accomplished in a Legal Manner, is okay by me. The Media is upset that they did not know who the VP pick was until it was announced to the rest of us. So she had a chance to make an impression before their bias could tear her down. So McCain had a jump on the situation and they where contained. They could not come out swinging before hand. I love to see the media Stumped.

After reading Google News about the teleprompter issue it seems that there was minor malfunctions for both Palin and Giuliani but not as broad as was first reported. It did not go smoothly but was not the fault of Palin who winged it when necessary but not totally. My bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

Memo to Senator Obama: Social Security was never intended to be a retirement system.

Why doesn't being a city councilor and a mayor of a small town count as legislative or executive experience? The US is made up of, in large part, various small towns. Alaska may have a small population, but has important energy industries and is a vast area to govern. This fact actually increases the complexity of her experience. By Democratic naysayer's standards George Washington and John Adams would not be qualified to govern today.

McCain is too old Scott, and too much what we have right now.

That's enough for me. 8 more years of lending deregulations -- which has done so well for the country (rolling my eyes) -- 8 more years of spending $12 billion dollars a month on a failed idealogical war, while our own infrastructure falls apart, 8 more years of the rich getting rich, and by "the rich" I mean the oil companies and the Iraq contractors who are making 6 times that of our soldiers ....

I have had ENOUGH.

Out with the old, in with the new.

What scares me is all the people that love her AFTER ONE SPEECH.
But in Utah it doesnt suprise me.
Penny stocks and investment schemes are Utahs number one bussiness, so I guess we can add one more.

Ron, only if you'd been living under a rock for the last 2 years could you say you first heard about Obama from one speech.

You've had many, many opportunities to hear him and understand hia positions.

You never heard of Palin til a minute ago.

Tell the truth: you're one of those famous Utah (R) voters....it doens't matter to you as long as its a Republican.

Fortunately, Utah votes don't matter. The candidates won't even campaign here; they will just take it for granted.

A few comments deserve responses:

Grimble --

First, so-called trooper-gate. Here, Gov. Palin's ex-brother-in-law tasered a 10 year old, threatened to kill her father and was restrained for beating his wife. Yeah, he shouldn't have been fired.

As to state spending, she did reduce state taxes and spending. You are confusing when she was mayor of Wassila. Then, she did support earmarks for the town. She turned against them by the time she ran for Governor because they were associated with corrupt politicians and she's been consistent since.

KJB --

You are kidding, right? You are trying to make the argument that Obama is some kind of great legislator. Did you bother to find out that every measure you named (except for one) were co-sponsorships, ie. he put his name on someone else's bill?

Obama actively avoided achieving anything in the Illinois Senate -- voting "present" 130 times. My favorite is that he chairs the European Affairs Subcommittee and has NEVER even held a committee meeting.

Obama has no personal achievements. None. Nada. That is why Hillary Clinton & Joe Biden were so contemptuous of his run during the primary.

Re:Re: Liar

Obama is a liar...lol!... now am I justified? What else can I say? He keeps putting his foot in his mouth...too wishy washy for a good leader. S.Palin on the other hand speaks the truth. She certainly has the true vision of things to come. She also put the Obamanationites too shame.

Obviously, neither of will change our opinion. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Sarah Palin is a Liar | 3:42 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
She says she's qualified ... she's NOT.
AL | 4:41 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
To Sarah Palin if Liar: She has been a mayor and is now a Governor. Makes no difference how large or small the state is, it still has to be governed the same way. She is surrounded by two foreign countries, Canada and Russia. Executive decisions have to be made to remain friendly and competitive. Obama, however, says he is qualified. He has spent 173 days in the US Senate, and the rest campaigning for the US Presidency, and has never ran anything, anywhere and people think he is qualified. Of course he may be qualified for dog cather, or trash collector. You pick.........
KJB | 6:31 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Steve:

Hey, you asked for ONE thing and I gave you multiple examples (And there are plenty more, if you can be bothered to turn off talk radio long enough to look for them.) And how dare Obama work with his fellow senators to get things done! What is he, some kind of socialist?

Tell me, what has McCain done lately? I've done my research, can you do yours?

As for Troopergate, the state trooper involved may be total scum, but that still doesn't mean you're allowed to take the law into your own hands. If anybody should respect due process, it should be someone in Palin's position.

And what about her association with the AIP? Her husband was a member, she attended their 1994 and 2000 conventions, and she even gave a videotaped address to them last year. The VP has to take an oath to protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution. Can Palin do that? If Obama had the smallest of associations with a group that wanted to secede from the Union, you'd be boiling with rage.

Can't wait to see her try to debate Biden; it's going to be GREAT!!!
KJB | 6:47 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Here are some interesting statistics I just found:

The number of laws Obama sponsored in the Illinois State Senate: 820

The number of bills Obama has currently co-sponsored in the US Senate: 427

The number of bills that Obama has authored: 152

But, of course, he hasn't done anything. He doesn't have "executive experience" like Palin, who fired and threatened city employees who didn't toe her line, traveled to Washington to lobby for pork, and left Wassila $20 million in debt. No wonder she isn't going to be talking to the press for the time being. It'd be like a vampire being thrust into sunlight.
Next thing you know | 7:50 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Palin will walk out on a clear night, look up at the moon, and boast that she understands the pressures of governing in proximity to a major heavenly sphere ... Look how much experience I have! yup! yup!
uh, Al | 8:30 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
Politics in Alaska are like high school basketball compared with the NBA elsewhere ... I lived there for more than 15 years ... I've even shaken Ted Stevens' hand when he paid a casual social call to my boss ... a lightweight like Palin can do extremely well up there ... she went to five or six schools of little note before she finally got her degree ... Obama graduated from major, rigorous schools (Columbia and Harvard) with difficult degrees ... do you know what magna cum laude means? ... you guys can whine all you want about experience, but the QUALITY of that experience is what's important, also the candidate's intelligence and aptitude ... a president needs to be able to think and reason, not just posture ... Palin just doesn't have it shes strictly bush league, farm team ... Intellectually, Obama is a standout ... that has to count for something unless youre willing to admit that you want a stupid president ... Very few of us could achieve what Obama has, but many millions of us are as qualified as Palin ... She just happened to find a few openings in the rabbit fence.
AL | 10:01 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
I don't care who lived where. The state of Alaske still has to have someone as the Governor, DUH......You are comparing Palin to Obama, but you forget that McCain is running for president not Palin. Lets see how you explain McCain's 22 Years to Obama's 173 days in the US Senate. Lets not be stupid enough to think you can overlook McCain's 22 years and his years in the military when Obama was being trained in a Musleum school and then going to law school. Going to law school does not, on its own, qualify you to be President Explain that, smarty......
Steamy | 8:12 a.m. Sept. 6, 2008
Y'all are liars! Grow up!!!
"DUH" is kinda dismissive, AL | 9:55 a.m. Sept. 6, 2008
In this case BOTH McCain and Palin are running for president Were the presidential candidate young and healthy, it might be OK for someone as problematic as Palin to run But McCain is an old man with many bombs ticking inside him To anyone willing to pay attention, the first signs of dementia and memory loss are there Im not saying I dont have some admiration for ol' John, but his day is over and Im pretty sure he wouldnt be able to serve out even one term Then this country would discover the real horror of having someone like Palin, steeped in petty Alaskan politics, in the hottest hotseat in the world Thats why things like intelligence and aptitude matter so much Obama is an intellectual standout with a proven ability to deal with complexities He was at the top of his class (btw, McCain was near the bottom of his) Few of Palins professors at her motley assortment of schools even remember her! She might have some skill at the kind of politics I saw up there, but I never want to see our democracy in her hands.
AL | 1:24 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
To "DUH" is kinda dismissive, AL: You seem to forget that McCain is a survivor. You try to be a prisoner of anything for 5 years you would not survive. You sound like you are counting him out dead on election day. He may disappoint you. Obama is not a proven anything, sorry to disappoint you, and what he is top in does not qualify him to be President. It doesn't matter who remembers Palin it's her experience being Governor that is leadership enough be to qualified for VP. If you had to have to much experience your man Obama has none so he is not qualified
believers | 8:26 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
True believers: Palin is bush-league, a cute face that the gop put up to win in Alaska. Her record is that of a small town mayor, not excatly ready for prime time. Been in office less than 2 years in a state awash with oil money. Face it. It is a hard thing to face, but it is true. McCain is very old, not just old. 72... good grief. He is showing signs of dementia. That is a fact too.

Palin with her finger on the nuclear button?

Priceless.

Democrats have to win or we are so far down the rabbit hole that we will never get out. Go Obama!!! Go Biden!!! Go change!!!!
Oh, Al | 10:54 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Nonsense, Al ... I was expected to die when I was 14 ... A bus may run over me tomorrow, but I'm here today ... At any rate, I stated that I do have some admiration for McCain ... You have lapsed into a downward spiral of faulty logic ... The fact Palin has served part of a term as Alaska Governor has a zero (i.e., ZERO) correlation with how well she can think and how well she could handle the presidency Her election in Alaska probably had more to do with Tony Knowles decreasing popularity than anything And who says shes a good governor? Many Alaskans are starting to wonder Others admit she has no experience She has made no big decisions, she has no real knowledge of foreign affairs (a CRUCIAL thing for a president to have) Her real skill? She can charm some people, she can lie with a straight face So, I have go back to common ground with Obama: he is an intellectual giant and she doesnt even make it on to the radar He can think and she can smile.
AL | 11:46 a.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Obama has no executive experience no matter what you think. He has been in the US Senate since 2007. What experience does he have..... NONE............Don't write to me your rubish because your man has less experience than Palin. Obama is not running against Palin. Try comparing your man to the real Presidential canidate MCCAIN and see how he stacks up. He will look like a kindergarterner up against a Master's Degree College Grad...........OBAMA IS A NOTHING RACIST.
Ing | 12:00 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Don't believe anything anyone says about the opposition in a party convention--no matter which one. Democratic or Republican national convention, doesn't matter. You're not going to see thoughtful statements about policy and goals. Those things exist solely to whip the faithful into a frenzy, and truth is not an obstacle.

Unfortunately, in politics the truth always suffers. You can't really trust the claims people make.

I found two websites that sort things out pretty nicely: politifact and factcheck. (Can't put the actual addresses in here, but they're easy enough to find with a simple search.)

Were Democrats afraid to talk about fighting terrorism at their convention? Did Palin really prevent the "bridge to nowhere" from being built? There are places where you can get factual answers to these things, not just polarized rhetoric.

If we're going to get this election right, we HAVE to cut through the spin and attacks and TV ads and doublespeak. You don't have to vote the same as me. Let's just make our decisions based on FACTS.
To ing | 3:19 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
Are demo's afraid to talk about the "war on Terror?" Yes, except for the statement that Biden would like to have Bush charged with war crimes and is gathering "evidence."

Did Palin really stop the bridge to nowhere? Yes. It was what put her on the map.

Ability trumps experience | 8:21 p.m. Sept. 7, 2008
You're dangerously close to stalling out, Al better pull up 22 years of being wrong in the Senate doesnt make McCain a better candidate Experience is not the issue in this election Some experience is inferior experience and should not be used as a template for future action, other experience has no meaning in a future context The idea that the U.S. should be run like a business is not valid Look where we are today with a governor as president! Give me a break! The ability to discern, to reason, and to act correctly is whats important I havent seen that in the deteriorating McCain and I sure dont see it in Palin The critical challenges every president faces are the unexpected ones Palin is a huge issue because she is a product of the great Alaskan circus You want a candidate who has solid credentials in cat fighting in the last frontier? She does that extremely well You want someone who could responsibly step in and lead the free world? That aint Palin.

NOT supportng Palin. Period.
RL | 10:40 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Re: "This Mother" What a bummer you can't see the forest for the trees. The fact is, Obama has only 143 days experience as a senator, and he now is so arrogant to believe he is the right guy to run this country. On the other hand, McCain has years of experience, is a veteran, is NOT a pork spender, and now has a mother of 5 to get a new point of view and voice from in making decisions... Obama's choice is another equally arrogant old pretty boy. It was the right choice, and I am happy to support someone who welcomes a downs baby into her heart and family, and stands by her daughter who made a poor choice but is trying to do the right thing, and knows the value of family and children and a spouse, without hesitation. That is character, that is the kind of person I want helping the helping the president make decisions. Unlike a politician out for power and popularity.
Re: Al | 10:52 a.m. Sept. 8, 2008
Sorry, the lonely fair & balanced press did report about the teleprompter. You don't really think NBC/MSNBC, CBS, or CNN would report it do you? Wouldn't want to put Gov. Palin in a good light.

I was originally for Mitt but, don't you Mitt hangers on-ers realize how foolish you made Utah look with your measly 2 votes at the convention. You should be ashamed of yourselves for being an embarrassment to Mitt Romney. You made he & all of Utah look stupid!! He lost. Don't be such spoiled sports!

Palin is another neocon powerfreak who is an embarrassment to conservative values.
BobP | 2:01 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
The thing I like second best about Palin, after her family values, is that her choice has the loony left nearly apoplectic with fear and rage.

Now McCain and Palin are ahead in the polls.
Another evangelical prophet | 2:13 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
The funny thing about Palin is when she talks it is almost as if she is here to assure everyone that she will help get McCain elected (like if he can't do it on his own, she is there to make sure)

Something like Superwoman flying in to rescue a tottering old man. Or like a mother, confident and self-assured, standing on the stage with her son who is giving his first(or last in McCain'c case) talk in front of the school assembly.

Palin actually reminds me of Serial Mom, for those of you who saw the movie.

I think Palin will turn out to be just another twist in the eternal screw.

The only thing I can see Palin helping to change is to help the evangelicals solidify their grip on the country and White House. I'll bet Bush is loving it.
He has another 'prophet' of God following him in his mission from God.
The family plan | 4:43 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
The Republicans want it both ways. After Obama and Biden said that family matters were off-limits (Obama even said hed fire any staffer who brought up the subject), the dog and pony and baby show began. Ol John McCain went out to the airport to greet young Levi, the presumed father of Palins grandfetus. After a shave, haircut, and new suit, Bristol and Levi were put on display at the convention so we can all see how were gonna make lemonade outa these here lemons. Then there is baby Trig, who was passed around like a human football Im surprised that Palin didnt nurse him while giving her acceptance speech The worst thing is how quickly conservatives bought into this disgusting hypocrisy Forget the pit bull, whats that line about lipstick on a pig? If a Democrat did any of this, the wails of righteous indignation would echo for the next two months Palin is a person with many troubling and unanswered questions, but yet AGAIN the Rovians are spinning a glorious web around her with no regard to the future of our country. They just want to keep their power.

It figures somebody would try to call me out for providing some sources of fair, unbiased information. I guess that's to be expected from a forum where two people are actually arguing over who gets to be "DUMB" on this board. (Check out post by DUMB | 9:11 a.m...hilarious.)

It's clear that the poster of "To ing | 3:19 p.m." is more interested in holding onto his/her opinions than finding the truth.

Probably it won't have any more effect than before, but I'll say it again:

I am not saying one party lies and the other tells the truth. *Neither* party tells the truth about its opponents. Politicians rarely tell the truth about themselves, either. You can make your own decisions about who to vote for, but PLEASE get some accurate information to base your decision on.
Re: BobB | 6:36 p.m. Sept. 8, 2008
McCain/Palin being ahead in the polls is just the usual post-convention bounce. Obama and Biden got theirs and now it's McCain's turn. Don't expect it to last, though; once the novelty of Palin dies off and it's time debate the issues, then we'll see what's what.
Divine Intervention | 10:51 a.m. Sept. 9, 2008
