Sorry | 4:32 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I am not a lib, but feel that Sarah Palin would do more to serve her country by staying home and raising her young children. She would be more of a role model if she would have forgone the honor for a greater calling.
Ha ha ha!!! | 4:35 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
You libs crack me up! I just love to see you whine! The more you cry about Governor Palin, the more you expose yourselves for the hypocrits you really are. You are an intolerant and dishonest lot and if the truth jumped up and smacked you in the face you wouldn't recognize it or admit it. The more you protest and vilify Governor Palin, the more I am convinced that she was the right choice for the republican party VP candidate. She was awesome last night! Go Sarah!

Huntsman - you're no Palin | 4:44 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Must be a wrenching time for Huntsman, who for the last four years purposefully forsook his conservative political roots turned into a moderate to moderate/liberal in hopes it would propel him into national politics. It must be gut wrenching for Huntsman to now watch Sarah Palin get rewarded with national political prominence for doing what Huntsman lacked the courage and conviction to do: stick to conservative ideals as governor and not waffle into a semi-moderate/liberal in hopes it will help propel you to higher national levels.

Take a lesson from Sarah Palin, Governor Huntsman. Courage, sticking to your convictions, not holding your finger to the wind to see what position (e.g., sidling up to Schwarzenegger on global warming) will curry national political favor.

Governor Huntsman, I saw Sarah Palin speak last night, and let me tell you Governor Huntsman: You are no Sarah Palin. Read it and weap. You sold your philosophical soul and she didn't, and she got rewarded. There is a God in Heaven after all.

Some of these comments are hilarious. Libs railing on conservatives about family values. Interesting coming from the people who have made it their lifes ambition to destroy the family.

It is fascinating how bitter the opponents of Gov. Palin are tonight.

Is it because she exposed Mr. Obama for what he is -- a person of virtually no accomplishment and no achievements? No.

Is it because she powerfully outlined how John McCain's courageous strengthens his preparedness to serve as President? No.

The reason that Obama and his folks can't stand Sara Palin is because she represents everything she is not:

* She stood up to corruption in Alaska and brought about true reform.

* She cut taxes and reduced government spending.

* She connects with real Americans who live in small towns, struggle with their families and deal with real life.

* She bonded with every family who has a member with special needs.

Gov. Palin shredded Obama's claim for the Presidency. He isn't prepared. He wants to go in the wrong direction. They despise her. But, America loves her --- and will help put her in the vice presidency.
Davis County Independent | 5:16 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Governor Palin did a good job in addressing her convention friends. It was clear that she's struck a nerve with a lot of conservative voters who were eager to cheer and support her. Her speech validated for me, a lifelong independent, that the Republican Party is not the place for me. She embraced the attack dog role too zealously and her sarcasm and mockery of Americans unlike her (why attack community organizers?) revealed a temperament that I find untrustworthy. Obama and Biden get my vote and I'm joining the Democratic Party. For me, it's time to get further away from Rove politics and work with a party that represents a broader, more balanced representation of America. God bless America!

Hellow?????? This is a mother who does NOT care for her young ones. She has fobbed them off onto someone else to raise.

THIS Conservative OLDER mother (50 with a 4 yr old) will not be voting for this 'mother'. Sorry. MCCan blew his only change with me. Paint it any way you want. this is a big loser tickets.

I am greatly offended the baby daddy was on stage. I turned it off. This is an insult to everyone. Sorry ms. Palin. I don't agree with you rubbing our noses in YOUR daughters behavior. I'll teach my daughter a better way, thank you very much. In fact, I'll be home teaching her. My career can wait.
Grimble | 5:32 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
*She stood up to corruption in Alaska and brought about true reform.

And then lawyered up to try to push her ethics investigation bombshell back past the election.

* She cut taxes and reduced government spending.

She reduced ALASKA'S spending by increasing FEDERAL spending through all the pork she sought. She kept the money for the Bridge to Nowhere!

* She connects with real Americans who live in small towns, struggle with their families and deal with real life.

She doesn't connect with me and my problems. She's not offering me any tax cuts. She's not offering a strategy for alternative energy or health care reform. She's not offering anything to towns that have lost factories and jobs. And her family sure doesn't reflect my family's values! I'm from a small town too, and I live in one now. Just because she's a snowbilly doesn't mean she's capable of being VP.

* She bonded with every family who has a member with special needs.

"Bonded?" What kind of Oprah-talk is that supposed to be? Bonded? That's what you do with a TV character.

She proved nothing but her ability to throw out Limbaugh lines.

TO Greatly Offended: Even is you do stay home with your child that is still no guarantee that it will not happen. Remember you will also have grandchildren and until you have no liability you should not throw stones. You will be the first to defend your daughter if it happens and that is what she is doing. Shame on you for judging her!!!!! This is a non issue!!!!!!

I was saddened to arrive at my office today (90% women) and hear everyone ripping Gov Palin to shreds. BTW, I live outside of Utah. Did they hear the same speech I heard? Or are they so past feeling and brainwashed that they won't even consider their options?

All I heard today was a critique of how she dressed and sounded and what a witch she was. When pushed for a better reason not to vote for McCain/Palin, I heard 1) because the Republicans have got us in a huge deficit and 2) Palin doesn't have any experience.

Wow, if this is today's female voter, we're in trouble. My response would be to #1 - go take an economics class and learn there are economic cycles. Also, the folks w/the "D" behind their names have been running congress the past two years. And #2, uh, Obama was in the Senate about 140 days before he "called in sick" and started campaigning for President. You call that experience? Name ONE thing Obama has ever done. Just one. I don't mean what he's GOING to do, I mean what he HAS done.

Amazing | 6:02 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It amazes me that basically no one arguing the points here of the cadidates had never ever seen or heard of Sarah Palin, and then in one speech(wrote by a party writer) now everyone thinks she is so wonderful. What is wrong with people today? Are there no checks and balances in anything anymore? Are one night stands popular? I am totally disgusted with politics and the judgement mentality of todays citizens. Just look at what we have dealt with this past 8 years. Totally disgusting.
AL | 6:08 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
To Grimble: What do you think alternative energy solutions are going to do? Create jobs, maybe!!!! Drill oil, what is that going to do but create jobs? You were not listening to the under tones of her speech. Yes, and special needs people will get the understanding what comes from only someone who has experienced it first hand. These are her strengths it is to bad you can't see that!!!!!!

That should tell you what a great speaker she really is. Most of us would not be able to do that on national television and in front of so many people!!!!!!

Hey everyone, lets give credit for Palins speech to where it belongs!!! Her speech writers did a wonderful job, they got it pretty well right! And her experience as a sports presenter really paid off because she used the prompters like a real professional! So all of you out there saying how wonderful her speech was certainly need to look at other aspects of her life to see if she has what it takes to be VP. You cant lead on a script!!

I hope and pray for my nation that it happens again. Obama is so good and decent.

Give me Obama any day.
Missed oppurtunity | 6:47 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I think John McCain missed a prime oppurtunity that could have changed politics and won my vote. Unfortunately, he decided against selecting Joe Liberman; thus perpetuating the great schism in our nation between Democrats and Republicans.
Oh, well. With all the pressure he probably recieved, I can't blame him.

Re: Whales and polar bears | 7:36 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Drilling for oil in Alaska will not harm one polar bear or one whale! We were told years ago that the Alaska pipeline would drastically harm caribou! Guess what, the herds increased! Your irrational fears is just another liberal load of you know what!

In other threads you have claimed to be a devout Mormon. Yet, you embrace a party whose major platform achievements in the past twenty years include civil unions, legalized marriage between two members of the same sex, and the rise of Planned Parenthood. This more closely matches your Mormon family values? Can you spell d-i-s-c-o-n-n-e-c-t?
Books censoring sound scary! | 8:01 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I don't think that it is good the Palin supports books censoring. That is something they did in Nazi Germany, the USSR, and in Mao's China.
A Sad Day | 8:13 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Why do we have endure this endless non-sense about Palin? Liberals don't get it--she was put on the ticket to appeal the lower middle class beer drinking, hunting crowd. There is no way McCain is daft enough to think the hard core lefties that compose Clinton's base are going to vote for a conservative woman.

Again, it just proves how lazy libs about seeking out the true facts about a campaign. Do some research and stop watching ET and the other tabloid shows and stop browsing the US weekly and Cosmo mags at the check out to find out about your candidates.
Re Al | 8:43 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Your full of it. And don't try to make anyone believe she winged it. The press would have caught that in a heart beat and reported it. People like you that spill un truths are one of the many things that is wrong with this country. What are you anyway someone who smoked but didn't inhale? Ya Ya Ya.

BigD Coug: Millions of Republican families struggle every year to get by with no vacations, no frills, no extras so at least one parent can spend enough time at home to stay strongly involved in the lives of the kids. Those heroic parents have been celebrated at every GOP convention except this one. Your contempt for their economic sacrifice shows how out of touch you are with the partys base.
B Williams | 9:10 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Governor Palin is very charismatic and engaging, but she spoke almost nothing about any issues last night. All she did was speak about her biography (which is unique and interesting), and attack Senator Obama. She didn't even really attack him on issues, she just sarcastically mocked him, his work as a community organizer, his popularity, his stage at the DNC (what does that have to do with anything?). Obama and Biden's responses today were both very professional and presidential (and took the high road). The entire RNC convention has been only about McCain's honorable service or Palin's hunting/hockey mom exploits. Almost nothing has been said about the issues or the Republican's plans to fix the mess the last 8 years have put our country in.
Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manager even said:
"This election is not about issues.. it is about a composite view of what people take away from these candidates."

This is wrong. This election is about the issues. Yes, Obama is a great speaker that inspires. This does not disqualify him. Look at his website and see what his plans are. Please don't just believe Rush/Hannity/Glenn Beck's talking points.

This conservative woman will be teaching her kids...then making sure I'm home to be the MOM. I gave up a really well paid career to do the mom thing. David O. is right. I could make much more than my husband. But unlike the Palins, I have MY family prriorities quite straight.

I won't be jumping on this bandwagon. I'm not alone, it appears. I've talked with several of my friends who are conseravtive woman who won't be voting for this ticket either. Sorry to offend, but we do call them as we see them. McCain is not trustworthy, and Palin is his sidekick.
Sorry, Al, you are wrong | 9:25 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
The teleprompter did not significantly malfunction ... that is just a fabrication of the conservative sewage machine trying to make the governor look better than she is ... the fact that the teleprompter worked has been confirmed by convention planners as well as by several reporters who were reading along with her ... that speech was written for her..
Re: Liar | 9:26 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I am still waiting for your factual evidence. I authentically want to hear why you feel the way you feel. If you don't respond in 24 hours I will consider you claim invalid. It may sound rough, but this is the way it works in America; someone is innocent until proven guilty.
AL | 9:29 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Tonight John McCain extended a hand of friendship to anyone on either side of the isle who will work to make America strong, claiming that we are leaders in the free world. He knows how to lead and we are lucky to have him. He can use his experience in Washington to limit big government, lower taxes, and find other alternatives for energy. Lets work together to make a better America. Lets end this war safely and bring our troops home. Lets find solutions for health care, and immigration. He addressed all of these issues and more. Those who heard him should understand his sincerity.

He stated that he would rather lose this election than lose the war on terror!!!!!

Re: Scott

Illinois State Senate 1996-2004

*Pushed through an expansion of early adulthood education.

*Pushed through a law requiring that all interrogations and confessions be videotaped after several death-row inmates were found innocent.

*Worked with Democrats and Republicans to create Illinois' Earned Income Tax Credit, which gave $100 million in tax cuts to families within three years.

US Senate 2004-

*Worked with Republican Tom Coburn to require that a list of how every cent of tax dollars are spent is posted for public viewing.

*Traveled to former Soviet Union with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new effort to collect dangerous weapons (nuclear or otherwise.)

*Member of Veterans Affairs Committee; worked to get his veteran constituents their promised disability pay. Also working to prepare the VA for veterans soon to returning form Iraq and Afghanistan.

And trust me, there's a *lot* more.

Keep saying that Obama hasn't done anything, though. Sure beats doing the research and thinking for yourself. Maybe if I say that Scarlett Johansson wants me to run away with her enough times, it'll actually happen.
re: Freeman | 9:32 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I'm not gimble, but let me answer you in my way.
I am LDS. I am a center-right conservative. My party left me. I don't agree that Abortion should be illegal. I think they should not happen, but free agency is a bugger. I don't agree with gay marriage. Civil unions, I might be able to deal with, but not marriage. Civil rights for Gays? You betcha. I want drilling and lower gas prices, I want a healthcare saftety net so the emergency rooms are not filled up with those that can only go there for primary care. I want lower taxes and more accountablity in government. I don't want a rockstar for a president. But I don't want a hotshot who shoots from the hip either. I want families to be together forever, I don't care for divorce, although I am on my second (and last) marriage. Let's just say he had the Elton John syndrome. I want freedom of worship, and not be called a cult member because of my faith. I want to raise my kids in a safe place.
Which party am I? neither. But more likely, DNC.
