The attack cat is out. Now I think it's time to get away from personal attacks and get into the ISSUES that all of America wants answered. Scare tatics have worn their selves out. We want answers on the ecomomy, gas prices, health and insurance, housing, financial markets, and foreign policy, including invasion of foreign countries based on deceit, and lies. Miracle worker Palin will soon face debates that are not scripted, and answers that are not written for her, then we will see just knowledgable she really is. McDuff has already failed this test.

In reality there is a great amount of truth in this statement. A Double Standard of Boys do this and Girls do that seems to apply. This is America and the Boys and Girls can do the same things. Except for a couple of things prevented by basic biology.

Rearing Children can and should be a team effort. If a person wants to and can within reason be a stay at home mom, that is extremely honorable and in and of its self a full time job.

Mrs. Palin (I am tired of people trying ignore, or discount her husband. She does not do that. Tonight he was holding the baby. The baby was sleeping through all the noise and was doing just fine), seams to have found a balance, lots of Women have many children over many years, and the oldest are adults when the youngest are born.

Her family does not appear to be in any crisis. Like any other family they have situations and are dealing with the situations.

The women lib people should love her but they do not because she has an active involved husband, a together family, and high profile career.
.
Honorable? | 4:38 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
YES I think what Mr. McDuff went through 40 years ago is remarkable and honorable. But does that past service qualify him for the top office of this country? No I don't hardly think so. Lets get his answers on the big picture items. Ecomomy, gas prices and their future, health care, housing ect. Stop this Fear tatic crap.

That is ABSOLUTELY the right of the media to ask questions about Sarah Palins past. The electorate wants to know. The media is tasked with asking the questions we cannot becuase the media is there, the public is not. We pay (through newspaper subscriptions, etc.) to know. McCain's campaign should have done a more thorough job of investigating Palin's past. Steve Schmidt saying that questions about Sarah Palins past will be no longer accepted is a bunch of hogwash. Hint: Steve, the questions will go on anyway, all you can do is "damage control". If I were McCain, I would let him (Schmidt) go. If McCain doesn't, people will always be suspicious.

Sarah Palin is all about hope and change! She is everything America has been hoping for, a real change in the direction it has been going, and for once a real candidate, not a clone. No wonder the media is having a meltdown. She is the last thing liberals want. Who cares about them? We, the real people want her! The test is, that the more vilification is heaped on her, the more we know that she is the right choice. Most good people wouldn't mind if she did become president. What a " Thatcher" she would be!
Anonymous | 6:21 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
CONGRATS Sarah Palin, the running mate chosen by John McCain, delivers a fiery address in which she defends her small town roots, praises Mr McCain and attacks his Democrat rival Barack Obama. It goes down well with a crowd warmed up by rousing speeches from Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney. Mr McCain joins Mrs Palin on stage, before being formally nominated as candidate in a roll call vote. Sarah Palin takes the fight to Barack Obama, with a reference to his time as a community organiser in Chicago. We need change all right - change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington. We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington - throw out the big government liberals and elect John McCain. I'm sorry that Barack Obama feels that (Mrs Palin's) home town isn't cosmopolitan enough. I'm sorry, Barack, that it isn't flashy enough. Maybe they cling to religion there.

Sarah is fabulous. All the sexist garbage thrown at her doesn't intimidate her at all. She's a great governor, a great role model and a great person.

GO SARAH!
huh? | 6:24 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It ain't sexism! Her record is abysmal. Cheering at the convention won't change her record. The demos and the indeps will soon road back: unqualified at any speed.

Levi Johnson? Why haven't you two gotten married? Oh, gop values, eh.

please........... somebody turn off this soap opera.
liberal Larry | 6:30 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I've noticed Rush plays the "victim" card quite a bit, it looks like the GOP, in general, is using that strategy. Wacky conservatives like Goldwater, and Reagan, were a little scary, but a least you knew what they stood for, and it wasn't pretending to be picked on by some imaginary meany, like the media. The far right has really lost it's bearings.
Steve | 6:41 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
"The media views its job as scrutinizing her background, helping voters determine her readiness to serve..."

Interesting that when it comes to Obama a majority in the media view their job as serving as cheerleaders rather than "scrutinizing his background, helping voters determine his readiness to serve."
brer | 6:53 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
They are both panicking and politicing. If they rile people up to think that "the press" is abusing Ms. Palin, then they hope people will be more sympathetic to her.

The press has a right to ask legitimate questions. I think the mainstream press is bending over backwards to keep from being sexist. But, she's the one who flew 8 hours during labor. She's the one who accepted a position, knowing it would expose her daughter to undue scrutiny. Those things show lack of judgment. And certainly she should be held accountable for supporting the bridge, even though she brags she didn't, and for eagerly taking so many earmarks she now denounces, etc.
JustThe issues | 7:01 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
questioning palins qualifications is as sexist as questioning Obama's qualifications is racist.

I would say, anyone on either side who uses the racisim/sexism argument to avoid real questions is the breal bigot.
Is the media really liberal? | 7:25 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It is amazing to see how reactive the media is to Palin. For every positive article on her there are ten negative and nine of those ten are downright stupid. The media seems more concerned about her appearance and mothering skills than what she has done as a governor. Meanwhile, Obama and Biden (and Bidens son) get passes about all their questionable business activities and past associates. US magazine does a puff piece on Obama and then turns around a tries to present Palin as trailer trash. Why? Because the magazine owner is a big Obama supporter.

The media bias for Obama is becoming so apparent than it is nearing desperate. CNN last night had 3 liberal women on to bash Palin while Larry King threw up softball questions to them without questioning any of the supposed facts they were spewing out--especially about Palin's experience but not Obama's lack of....and people wonder why Utah is such a red state.
Running Scared | 7:28 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
The dems and main stream media are in an absolute panic. That fact is well-revealed by their personal attacks against Sarah Palin. However, this lady seems to be a tough cookie who is unafraid to use her verbal claws. Her emergence as a "person of the people" on the national political scene, and the potential for long-term dominance of the republican party, has intimidated the dems/main stream media to the point of desperation. They can see the writing on the wall. All these personal attacks on Palin only galvanize "we the people" against the dems and their lackeys in the mainstream media. The media is too stupid to realize they are contributing to their candidates' own loss.

The downside to a lenghty republican dominance - we will have to listen to the democrats whine for a long time.

I can live with that.

Bottom line, dems - the U.S. has a two party political system and somebody always has to be the "other" party.
Chuck | 7:51 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Who's playing the sexism card?? The media not the GOP.
Re: Seriously & Honorable | 7:56 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I applaud your idea that the election ought to be about the issues, and not about the side show. However, after listening the convention speeches, I am much more prone to support Governor Palin than Obama or Biden. I thought she was very clear about her intentions for dealing with gas prices, the economy and foreign policy. I honestly thought she made the most sense out of any candidate so far far including McCain and the other GOP candidates. I think she will do just fine in the debates.
Psshhsha | 8:02 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It is not sexism to think that the next generation is being raised up by good mothers, not baby factories. Palin is a baby factory. She is NOT THE TYPYICAL FAMILY WOMAN. Sorry folks, this is not the train I'm jumping aboard.

Palin lacks the experience, the know how and the FAMILY VALUES (yes I said it) to be Vice President. Likewise McCain. He's never been my cup of java. And this conservative woman will not be voting for this ticket. It's a loser for everyone. The American People, and expecially the Palin children, who appear to be raising themselves.

Good Post 7:25 AM

The double standards from the left are very obvious. The liberals who have posted here are so naive. The issues do matter most, and several were addressed last night, lower taxes, energy independence, choice of the best schools, things that matter most to ordinary, hard-working folks.
Himself | 8:12 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Palin did well and I like her message.

"I'm an outsider who is going to Washington to take on the corruption of the Republican Party and the oil companies."
Conservative | 8:14 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Conservative womman now voting for Obama. I know who/what obama is. It's not going to be fun or great. I'm not going to enjoy it at all. But I do not trust McCain at all. He shoots from the hip, and no amount of handclapping and shoving onto me and being told I HAVE to support her, will help. I've looked, I don't like. There is a smell underbelly and now everyone is crying FOUL. Well, we on the right have spent years tearing down the left. Now we're getting it back - in spades. If widdle cuttie pie sarah can't take the heat put on her perfect family - recuse yourself and go back to fishing in Alaska. There are those that see through you, don't trust you and don't want you. Now, were stuck. I pray Utah falls to Obama. What a message that will send to the bigots of the country! McCain and his sidekick (evanglaical of all things!) loses the election because of THE MORMON FACTOE! What a kick in the pants that would be. Popcorn anyone?
Dave | 8:16 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
The truth is the left uses feminism not as a cause to promote women in politics or the market, but to promote socialism. They will always attack a conservative woman who rises to power.

The left is the same with regards to blacks. They claim they advocate blacks gaining prominence in politics and business--as long as the black isn't conservative.

This really isn't sexism as much as it is bigotry. Because for the secular left, their political party and philosophy is their religion. And they hate capitalism so much they are working to bring this nation to its knees (through rabid conservation/global warming, working to have government take over various industries, etc.).
Excuses Excuses | 8:19 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
This is a cop out, both Palin parents need to take a step back and figure out what is going on. They are both to blame. This is not Sexism, it's practicality. I would question any day the skills and judgement of a man who has a pregnant teen daughter and is unwed and drinking underage.
I Don't Get the Media | 8:38 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It is interesting that the media complains that Palin isn't answering questions on pertinent issues but only asks questions about her daughter, her Down syndrome child, how can she do it with 5 children, why did she get her brother-in-law fired, etc. Maybe the media should try asking the correct questions.
Rob | 8:57 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I think Palin is good for the job. Who cares about her teenage daughters mistake? That stuff happens all the time with kids, but most don't get pregnant. Some take the pills where others have abortions. At least she's keeping her baby and not messing around with one guy after another like some teenagers. give it a break folks.
Cats | 9:07 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It is really amazing the way some people manage to twist reality and live in denial. Sarah did a brilliant job last night.

The people of Alaska hired her to manage their state. She has an 83% approval rating. Obviously, the people who know her best thinks she's great and they think they did the right thing by hiring her.

The left is SCARED TO DEATH. That's why they make these silly, irrational attacks on her and her family.

Obviously, liberals aren't for women. They are only for LIBERAL WOMEN.
Anonymous | 9:13 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
There are so many other Republicans with more qualifications than Palin. McCain's choice is very cynical and gimmicky. She can't even control her daugther then how about the country.
Mc | 9:27 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
What ever happened to reporting news without bias? This article should be considered commentary, not news. It should be on the editorial page. How does the writer know what John McCain is thinking or what his motives are?

Reporting on Palin's record is appropriate as long as they do it fairly, giving all the facts. That has not been the case so far. The mainstream media reports I've read or seen about the so-called "troopergate" have not reported all the facts and have done their best to make her look bad. The sexism comes in when there is a different standard for her than there is for Obama. The bigotry comes in when there is a different standard for her than there was for Nancy Pelosi when she came to Washington with five children years ago. Her accomplishments as a Congresswoman with a family are celebrated while Sarah Palin's ability to serve is in question. What makes the difference? Pelosi is liberal and Palin is conservative and the media champions liberals.

"There are so many other Republicans with more qualifications than Palin. McCain's choice is very cynical and gimmicky. She can't even control her daugther then how about the country."

Let's see. There are so many Democrats with more qualifications than Obama. The Democrat's choice is very cynical and gimmicky. They just want to be the first to nominate a black, so they don't care if he's qualified or not. Biden can't even control his own son (if you're asking yourself what Biden's son did it's proof that the media has not treated Sarah Palin fairly) then how about the country?

She is supposed to control everything her teenage daughter does, but democrats gave Bill Clinton a pass when he couldn't control himself with an intern in the oval office. The double standard is glaring. How many of you can control everything your teenager does?

Some of you folks need to take English language and grammar refresher courses. Too often your messages are rendered unclear or mis-understood totally due to a failure to communicate in the "official" language of the land. This inability to communicate is a reflection of your education and how much you tried during your school years. "Conservative" for example - goodness, your post demonstrates a marginal grasp of literacy. Go back to grade school!

Personally I give little credibility to a post that is fraught with errors, even if I agree with their basic message.
jwr | 9:47 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Sarah ain't no Margaret Thatcher, Goldie Meier etc - and let her record of public service be open to the public, lets be honest. She is in politics therefore the sexism is out the door, she is playing with the boys now and gets equal treatment and research. She ain't my idea of family values but what is family values?
A few thoughts... | 9:48 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Both parties lie, it just seems that the Republicans have been lying more over the last 8 years.

Why do people have to be so delusional to think that they want lower taxes all the time, but want better schools and roads, to reduce the deficit, energy independence, etc. How are we supposed to pay for all of that? Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

How is Palin going to stand up to oil companies when her husband works for one?

It never ceases to amaze me how LDS republicans so easily throw around the word "socialist/socialism." I know that the church definately isn't based on free market principles.

I understand that most Mormons favor the Republican party due to social/moral issues, and I support that. I don't understand, however, why so many Mormons so completely immurse themselves in the rest of the politics of the party.

I'm young enough that I have only voted in the last two elections, and both times I voted republican. But like I said in the beginning, I am tired of being lied to constantly. Palin lied about several things last night. McCain is a huge liar. I'm voting for Obama.
The news media does the sexism | 9:59 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Objectivity has been the widespread practice of the American press since the late 1800s. The American Society of Newspaper Editors finally canonized it in 1923, decreeing that news reports should be free from opinion or bias of any kind. From there the importance of objectivity grew until it was irrevocably applied to all reporters and later entire publications. All were expected to give both sides of the story on everything from a school board meeting to an international disaster. Without equal coverage, the press failed in its primary goal: to present the American people with the information and motivation to actively participate in the ever-changing world around them. Citizens needed to make their own decisions, and the press was there to make sure they had all the right information to do it. Mrs. Sarah Palin has not come to dominate the news establishment of this country and please them, as the liberal's do, she's going to Washington to please the voter's and people that put her in Office.
Re: A few thoughts - 9:48 a.m | 10:06 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Barack Hussein Obama's game plan and campaign is not about issues, it's about him and him alone and to stay in the spotlight of the drive by news media any way he can. His election is about a composite view of what people take away from him only, and that's the TV cameras right now, world wide, because Mrs. Sarah Palin has not come to dominate the news establishment of this country and please them, as Barack Hussein Obama's on his World concert tour did and the O'bot liberal's do, she's going to Washington to please the voter's and the people in America and those that put her in Office as well. Obamacon should know better that this election is NOT ABOUT the Hollywood Personalities, it's about the People in America and what the "do nothing" Democrat Controlled Congress did for no one the past 3 1/2 years while seated in Congress. McCain's campaign has been consistent and clear: McCain's election is about whose judgment you can trust to move America forward.

Go Wonder Woman!!! | 10:07 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I'm thrilled with what Palin is doing to the Republicans. All of a sudden they have become fervent feminists. Palin is a poster child for equal rights. We should be shouting her praises from the rooftops -- not fighting her.

This is a woman with five children, who gave birth to a special needs baby, then was back on the job 3 days later. She even managed to stay fit and keep her figure while doing it. She's amazaing!!! We can all learn a lot from her. Go WONDER WOMAN!!!
L | 10:16 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
While I have no basis to support it, part of the consideration for the McCain/Palin ticket would be Sara's readiness to serve as PRESIDENT, which I believe McCain's VP will do. I do not think her ability/inability to deal with things like foreign affairs, national economics, relations with congress or various states. These have been discussed a little about Joe and maybe Sarah will get her turn in the weeks ahead to demonstrate her understanding of those type of things and we can get beyond discussing hair length or something like that
Canned Speech | 10:30 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
I would hope that anyone selected for this office would be able to read and speak. This was NOTHING more than more republican rhetoric by their speech writers. So don't give too much credit for that speech to Sarah, she merely stated what was in front of her. Scare tatics are what the Bush-Wacker and Darth Vader(Cheney) have used for 8 years now. It won't sail any more. Lets hear some in depth talk about the real issues, economy, housing, invasions, immigration, health and meds, and energy. This R party hasn't got a clue, other than more of the same as in the last 8 years. Is this what you want voters-4 more of the last 8? Truthfully what is our national debt now? How much more do you want before you are owned by China or other foreign countries? What kind of a mess and obligation do you want to pass on to your chidren, grand children, and great grand children? This housing issue we are in ought to tell you something about debt.
Scruffy | 10:57 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
There is nothing sexist in my feelings about Sarah Palin. My feelings for her have nothing whatsoever to do with her sex. My feelings for her have to do with who she is as a human being. Everything that we have learned about her is at the opposite end of the spectrum from who I am and what I believe. My feelings about her have to do with the preservation of life on this planet as I feel life should be lived. I would feel the same way about a man whose views were the same as hers. She and I just do NOT think the same about anything, so it seems. And all of this is not about her as a "her" but about her as a human being. She is not the type of human being I would want for a friend and I CERTAINLY do not want her as the person helping to govern our country and very potentially leading our country. If a woman is wise, she can lead as well as a woman. Sarah Palin is not, however, wise, in my view of things.
Scruffy | 11:00 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008

The liberal news media is so two-faced. They have never probed once into their untouchable Obama. But they have jumped all over Sarah Palin--and why? Because she is a real threat to their cherished Obama. I wonder if the "media" will even print my comments--the media is sooooo biased! I wish we had someone like Hannity in the mainstream media to give the Republicans a fair voice! The media is like sports commentators for their favorite team. They don't report what's happening. They report what they want us to hear and feel. And I'm tired of it.

A few more thoughts... | 11:50 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
To the person who replied to my precious post:
People like you are the ones chasing me away from the republican party. I actually have always considered myself an independent with republican leanings, but not any more.

Why do you feel it is necessary to emphasize Obama's middle name? Are yuo trying to scare and confuse people? It's not working. Even if you believe Obama is the wrong choice, what does his middle name have to do with anything? Is McCain a woman because is middle name is Sidney, a common female name? Barack Hussein Obama is not a terrorist regardless if you agree with him or not.

The campaign should be about issues, but it is (and always has been) about pleasing the party. McCain is a sellout to the right wing fringe. Palin is only about herself and the party line as much as anyone else, including Obama.

The Democratic congress hasn't done much, but the Republican majority and white house wasn't much better, if not worse due to more corruption. I'm sick of the country club mentality of republicans. I'm with them on moral issues, but other than that they're on their own.
Raymond Takashi Swenson | 1:16 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
This little "news analysis" criticizes Sarah Palin and John McCain for selecting her, and defends media criticism of her, without addressing the real question: Is there anything about Palin that is actually a disqualification for the office of VP? The author clearly wants to talk about controversy rather than dealing with the fundamental facts. The facts of Sarah Palin are ones that the mainstream media have a hard time dealing with, so they complain about peripheral things. If she didn't look attractive, they would criticize her hair, makeup and clothing (as they did with the woman who blew the whistle on Bill Clinton's sexcapades). The real genius in Palin as VP candidate is that she, the candidate from nowhere, is far MORE experienced in a chief executive role than Barack Obama. Barack is intimidated by that and claimed his campaign outweighed her mayoral duties, ignoring her experience as governor that is 100 times more important than his campaign organization. Barack is just an American Idol winner, popular because of promise but with no professional track record to match his dazzling performances. His ONLY accomplishment is getting the Democratic nomination.

John McCain has lost the plot and totaly run off the rails with his choice of Sarah Palin as VP. There are so many better qualified women in the Republican party that would have served him well. The Republicans just lost my vote, if they can't do better than Sarah Palin I will vote for Obama, at least if he dies in office we will know what we will be getting in a president.
