Teams that want to play weak schedules should be rewarded with dropping in the polls. Ever since the BCS said you have to have a 6 game win season to get to a bowl, all these 1AA opponenets have been scheduled. Glad to see Ohio state and Georgia get what they deserve.
USC had a very dominant game. It was over in the first 11 minutes. I really wonder if anyone will challenge them this year. I think they will roll over Ohio State like they have the past two Big 10 games against Michigan and Illinois.
See zoobies it pays to play real teams. Now you might beat a horrible Washington team this week. But even Tennessee found out what its like to play Los Angele's JV team last week. We are a Big Fish in a BIG POND. Keep hearing the Salt Lake Media tell you how good you are and be that Big Fish in the Small Pond or should I saw in the bubble!!!
Fight ON!!!!!!!!!!
The whole BCS system sucks. It is the reason that teams schedule patsies. You have to respect USC for actually playing football.
The funny thing is that even mid-major programs like Hawaii and BYU do the same thing to try and get their piece of the BCS pie. Northern Iowa State Tech? Is that a club team? Alas Utah still has to deal with mighty Weber State later in the year.
Really what the BSC (sp?)has done is reduced the quality of college football especially during the non-conference schedule.
SC Fan, why are you poppin off. USC barely got the win at Washington last year.. USC has never played a Div1-AA team which I think is great. But please, lose the attitute!
USC- every year and every team is gunning for them, they (the oppenent) could have a bad season but if they just beat a caliber team like SC it will make their season!! think of it 9 heisman winners and 11 national titles and over 700 nfl football players past and present!! program is rich with tradition....with that when ever USC wins so does the PAC-10! fight on!!!go troy.....victory!!
Hate the BCS all you want, but tell me one thing. Which is more exciting..the college football season or the college basketball season? Basketball only gets exciting during the tournament. How many Saturdays do you sit down and really WANT to watch college basketball? Now how many Saturdays do you sit down and really WANT to watch college football? When you think of it that way the BCS isn't so bad! How about that SEC? They tell us how tough they are and that is why they play cupcakes preseason. It is too tough to get through the rough SEC. But when they travel outside of conference and actually play somebody (See Tennessee-UCLA) they aren't so tough. Miss St? Mississippi? Vanderbilt? Kentucky? Arkansas? Admittedly this is the best conference, but get off your high horse and do what USC does, travel to BCS stadiums and play other BCS teams! Gotta love college football!
looks like on half of the title game has been set and it is only week 1.5. i wonder which media darling will get the second spot?
guess the next 10 weeks are meaningless now. i am so glad we have an objective and unbiased media and ranking mafia....errr...monopoly....errr system.
BYU would crush USC. The Cougars should be #1.
Coach Carroll says: "Our philosophy has always been to schedule outstanding opponents." Last year USC opened their season with mighty Idaho in the Coliseum, a team that is ranked below most 1-AA teams. Carroll's statement would have been more accurate if he had left out the word "always."
You wish. BYU has talent, but they would loose to the big boys.
but, juvenile USC fans who troll MWC team blogs to pop off about how great their team is...
are simply insecure losers.
Greatness is self-supporting. It doesn't rely on tearing down everything around it in order to be recognized as being great.
Hey even though Ohio State played a cupcake this past weekend, they did put USC on the schedule as well. That is a far cry above what many of the contenders of the top spot do, so I do respect that. I would love to see 1A teams play only 1A teams though and especially the BCS schools play at least one non-conference game against another BCS School (and not the bottom feeders like Vandy). It would improve the whole system. Also, the non-BCS schools would have more opportutnity to schedule BCS schools if they aren't filling their schedules with 1AA teams. Then UTAH and BYU would have no reason (or excuse) for playing a 1AA team either (lets be honnest, they both try to schedule up and do only play the 1AA's to fill holes in their schedules).
I applaud USC for their huge win over Virginia...with one caveat--the Cavaliers stink. Check out Bruce Feldman's column on ESPN.com. He has the MWC as a better conference than the ACC--finally someone recognizes that BCS conferences aren't necessarily the best. Virginia was in a NEW Year's bowl last year for one reason--defense. And the main reason for that--Howie Long's kid--graduated. Oh, and the fact that the top seven teams from the ACC all have bowl tie-ins (most of them on New Year's) also helps to make a so-so UVA team into a ballyhooed "New Year's Bowl Team."
Virginia Tech lost to East Carolina (who is good, but they aren't even the best team in Conference-USA). Clemson got housed by unranked Alabama (don't expect them to be in the top 25 at the end of the year). Maryland squeaked by the 1-AA Delaware Blue Hens, 14-7 at home. The fact and magnitude of Virginia's loss at home to USC should have come as no surprise to anyone. For that reason, I wouldn't read too much into the inevitability of USC's next national title.
BYU is gooder than all other teams. They will win the champeeunchip. Go Cougars.
Anyone with any football smarts knows that USC is the team to beat every year. The most knowledgeable football minds (vegas sportsbooks) have the trojans #1 every year. Also the sportbooks have TCU as the best team in the MWC, and after that performance at a good New Mexico team I can see why. BYU will lose at TCU and Utah. Heck, BYU will have a hard time a 8th place pac-ten team, but they should win. At least Utah represents the MWC with out of conference play, something BYU has never done.
"At least Utah represents the MWC with out of conference play,"
It's just too bad for Utah fans that Utah doesn't represent themselves in conference play.
SC Fan is a Ute Troll.
It's so transparent.
Enjoy it while you can, because BYU is breathing down your neck and by Halloween will taking the top spot. GO COUGS!!!!
USC deserves to stay number one as long as they stay undefeated.
I've noticed a few a USC's fans, however, are total zeroes.
