Whats the deal Lee, slow news day. When has a child of a candidate been an
issue. You are poking at a fire that has already cooled. Yesterdays news. So
what, a 17 yr old is pregnant and is marrying the father. How does this private
family matter become a "qualifier" for vice president. Nobody said she
was a perfect parent. Her initial comments did not belay that fact. You are
feeding into the media frenzy that has no business sticking their nose. Frankly
I am glad I cancelled my subscription because of writing and analysis like
yours.

Did the doctor who delivered the baby attest to anything and why not ? Why did
Palin state that her daughter had just told them about the pregnancy whereas she
and Macain knew about it before Macain's announcement ? She is hurting

Don't worry, the GOP can make Satan look like an angel so Palin will be
easy as pie. In their world, the economy is doing well, Iraq is a success and
peaceful place, and Bush is a great president. So what do they have to worry
about with this Palin woman? Contradictions don't exist for them. Peace
through war, generousity for the poor through greedy policies for rich
corporations, finding security by manipulating fears, compassion for immigrants
by building a wall...and on and on. Jeeeze.

Come on Lee. You can't be serious. Do you honestly think that because
Sarah Palin's daughter is having an illegitimate child or because she went
back to work three days after having a baby, it disqualifies her from being vice
president? This does not add up to a "dirty" past and does not
constitute grounds for not selecting someone to be VP. Sarah Palin doesn't
have a dirty past. She doesn't have friends that are unrepentant
terrorists, doesn't attend a racist wacko church, and didn't smoke pot
as a youth. She is a true conservative and a true American and any objective
journalist (not lee benson) can see that any 'blemish' she may have
pales in comparison with Barack Obama's sketchy, scary past.

Though undecided politically this year, I find it disturbing that the media will
attack Sarah Palin over the fact that her 17-yr old daughter is pregnant. The
mere suggestion that fault should be blamed on Sarah Palin is deplorable.
Those who have teenagers certainly understand every parent's fears of getting their kids through those tough years. Despite one's best laid plans and consistent lessons on the importance to stay away from drugs, premarital sex, etc., sometimes the child makes poor judgments and mistakes.
If Sarah Palin was negligent as a parent, then let her get blasted. My guess is that she was not.

Lee, you seem to be trying to justify the ugly attacks on a 17year old by your
colleagues in the media. Why is it all Democrat families are off limits and
private family matters are rally private family matters? But republican families
are fair game?

If Palin was a man, these would all be non-issues. Why do people not even
question that Obama with two young children can run the country, but Palin
cannot since she is the mother of young children? I find the sexism remarkable.
Regarding her husband's dui, let us not forget that was 20 years ago and hardly relevant to today. To the best of my knowledge he is not running for office. Regarding her pregnant daughter, would it have been better to quietly demand abortion, which would be illegal since only the pregnant woman has choice? Should Palin also have aborted her "deformed" baby as unseemly? It is sad that some believe that the two greatest qualification for public
office are being pro gun and anti-abortion.
I understand that those may be a litmus test, but should be just a bit further down the list.
With a 72 year old McCain, this choice shows extremely bad judgement.

father, why is this such big news? How about when Obama said he supports
abortion so his daughters won't have to have their babies and live with a
mistake? I would rather see Palin support her daughter through a tough time

Let us be reminded that LDS doctrine does not condone unmarried teenagers having
sex and getting pregnant. And if that does happen, adoption is recommended over
single parenthood.
I feel that if one of Obama's daughters had gotten herself into that kind of trouble, the Utah GOP would be up in arms, and would not be praising the errant teenager and her negligent mother. The double standard is repugnant.
This really has been the last straw for me: I will not be voting Republican because I cannot stand hypocrites, and now I feel their "family values" platform is a total lie.

Obama was closely associated with Bill Ayers - Amercian born terrorist; associates with a convicted Chicago slum lord criminal who he had financial dealings with; has no executive experience at anything - etc. etc. etc.
So, who is the one that was not properly vetted? Oh, that's right - Obama is the standard bearer for the Democratic Party and all of that shouldn't count or be brought to light!!

They are 17 and 18 year old young men in prison for 10 years for having sex
with minors. Remember the kid in georgia who was sentenced for 10 years. The
state charges them with sex crimes and they spend the rest of there life on a
register. These laws must be for the lower class people in this country only.
These politicans who pass these laws should have to live them. Sarah Palin was
not attacked if it would have been in any other state or a low class person it
would have been posted everwhere news, web sites, her daughter Bristol would
have been proteced but this young Man would have been charged with sex crimes.
Read your state laws on sex crimes. Some can use there offices and power to
protect against the laws they pass. Every young man and man and women need to
know about the sex offenders laws in there state. Young men do not think this is
alright think to do is have sex with a 17 year old some states you will find
yourself in prison or on a sex offender list.

I can just imagine the rabble in these pages had a similar situation developed
on the democrat ticket. And, as much as we want to say the family issues in this
case are off limits, that runs smack against what social conservatism is. By
design it imposes its' way into family life, and personal life. This sort
of thing is a deal breaker for social conservatives. At least if she was a
democrat.

Mr. Benson I am disappointed in the bias. Governor Palin is not LDS but is a
fine Christian woman who lives family values but is not immune to the same
problems of other Americans. I am LDS and the adoptive mother of a daughter, who
also became pregnant and refused social pressure from peers and friends to
abort. She placed her baby for adoption. We do not force a gal to adopt, or
place a child for adoption. Lee Benson, shame on you. I expected you to be
Christian but your slant is gossipy as others in national media. Concentrate on
real issues -- so much has been skipped or glossed over on Obama, why not look
into that instead?

3. A complete lack of experience: she was reporting TV news not too long ago.
4. Corruption scandal: she fired someone who refused to fire her estranged brother-in-law.
For someone who fought against corruption, speaks on abstinence-only education, and claims to uphold traditional values, this really undermines her credibility.

I hope they consider adoption. Adoption is a wonderful alternative that
benefits the child. There are many married couples that are unable to have
their own biological children and are waiting for the chance to adopt a baby.
Adoption would give the baby a chance to grow up in a home with a father and a
mother.
My respect for this family would really grow if they chose to put this baby up for adoption.
I consider adoption to be the best option for the BABY when there is little possibility of a loving, successful marriage between the father and mother.

I was hoping that McCain's pick for VP would help put to rest questions I
had about his judgement...but unfortunately, this raises those same questions.
We now find out that he only spent a couple of days vetting her and that he only
met her once, maybe twice. You got to be kidding me! If something happens to
this 72 year old man, Palin would be in charge of the most powerful military the
world has ever known - she would be President of the most important economy in
the world.
Her experience does not make me feel comfortable that she would be able to negotiate with Venezuela, Russia, or Iran. In true McCain fashion, he didn't listen to his advisors, and made a horrible pick.

So, when that "3:00 AM phone call" comes in, while at the same time
she has a sick child calling for mommy, or her daughter is in labor, what will
she do? As a working mother of small children, I know that even the best of us
are distracted when our children are in distress. I fear Sarah will not be able
to focus her attentions fully on the job at hand while still the parent of so
many minor children.

None of this will matter. Obama consistently leads in the polls, the latest
showing a 48-41 advantage. I expect that about two weeks prior to the election
the numbers will firm up around 54-46. There is very little chance of a
republican victory given the state of the economy, the war, and the deficits.
Sarah Palin is not qualified to be a VP candidate, but it is a moot point.
McCain gaffed on his choice, revealing a startling lack of judgement on his
part. The American people will begin to see the enormity of the mistake as she
is disassembled systematically by Biden in the VP debate.

Perhaps McCain didn't do all of his homework on Palin. But many
American's aren't doing their homework on Obama. The guy has some
pretty radical and even violent influences all around him, such as his pastors
and Bill Ayers. This William Ayers is nothing short of a terrorist and is a very
close friend to Senator Obama. In fact, Obama announced his presidency in Ayers
home. In the past Ayers has participated in several bombings with the intent to
kill hundreds of innocent Americans to make his radical left statements. Obama
has had Ayers full support for presidency from the very beginning.
If you do your homework on William Ayers you will be disgusted. He hasn't changed his views nor does he feel sorry for his past. The fact that he escaped any hard time is maddening.

Get to the bottom of why McCain chose Palin. He certainly had complete
intelligence on her, those things are not that hard to find. With such an
important decision McCain obviously thought the reward outweighed the risks
involved and he would have gone into this knowing all the risks. If he
hadn't then why not go with someone who's already been out in the
spotlight? If he was just going to make a pick and not think about it and weigh
all the issues then why not pick someone like that rather than an unknown? The
media has convinced themselves that the story is McCain didn't do his
research; you're missing the point pursuing this path, find the REAL story
and report on it!

It would be nice to have just one local journalist not act like the liberal
national media. You say that because Palin was introduced in part as a wife and
mother and because of that her entire family is fair game. Bull, Obama talks
about his family, wife, kids, virtually every speech that doesn't mean his
kids are fair game for whatever comes along. If Palin's husband or 17
year old daughter were out there making speeches vouching for their wife or
mother that is another thing, they are not. Obama doesn't get asked
whether he can be a good father and still be president but your media crowd seem
to feel the need to question whether see has the time to be a good mother and
still be vice-president. What totally biased group you belong to. It would be
nice to find one journalist in Utah that could provide some balanced reporting.

as a parent, such as choosing to work when my little boy needed me to play with
him, and you know I've repented since then, so why can't people like
sarah admit that they've also made mistakes, for instance when heavenly
father is trying to slow her down so she can pay attention to her family, and
then as strong will as she is, she ignores that and goes to work 3 days after
having a down syndrome baby, that could be poor judgement on her part, and
maybe, just maybe she could have paid more attention to a struggling teenage
girl (Bristol) who probably needed Mum to be around, and maybe Mum (sarah) made
the wrong choice and went to work. She needs to humbly accept that she like
every parent has made wrong choices, that is truth and it will resonate with
other parents.

It is impressive that she is having the baby and just gives me one more reason
to like Palin as VP pick. Neither side of the contraceptives in school arguement
have a zero % record of teen pregnancies. And if the school taught other values
than in her home even less a surprise this happened. If she had used
contraception and was in the % of noneffectiveness would the left think, oh
it's not her fault! But since her mom is in favor of absitinence why is it
considered a character flaw?

Actually, by her own admission, Sarah Palin has smoked pot at some point in her
past. I don't know if she said when or how often, but she is no stranger to
the business end of a joint. But that isn't news. To all who think McCain
didn't properly vet her, all this is old hat to him. This
information--hubby's past DUI, Bristol's baby, Sarah's pot, and
all the rest, was released by the campaign, not dug up by the media. They wanted
to head the dirt-diggers off at the pass. McCain did a very thorough questioning
of his potential VPs, including their past marital sex life, any infidelities,
past drug history, legal skirmishes, police records, and other such potential
closet skeletons. He knew it all, and chose her anyway. Make what you want of
his judgment, but none of this is a surprise to him, and the media can't
take any credit for uncovering it; once again, get it clear--The McCain/Palin
campaign released it all themselves.

folks, after 8 years of strong will and pride playing on the bigger stage, and
getting us into a war that was not carefully analyzed, we need a humble team,
that's all I ask for. If that is Sarah and McCain, then judge for
yourselves, and if that is Obama and Biden, then do likewise, but for the love
of God, please pray with open hearts and let the Lord lead you. Now don't
pray thinking you know the answer because of your prejudice about candidates
stand on abortion, gun control,immigration, etc. If you read Nephi's
killing of Laban out of contest, you might call him a sinner because he broke
the commandment "thou shalt not kill", but when you read that he was
instructed of God to do so, you come to agree that God's ways are higher
than men, and knows all about the future, so be careful in passing judgement and
vote according to the will of God. Enough said.

The fact is Obama chose a running mate that makes him a better president, McCain
picked someone who makes him a better candidate. Obama's judgement seems
thoughtful and well calculated, McCain's impulsive and desperate.
