Inexperienced Alta? | 5:12 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
When will people start realizing that this Alta team is not inexperienced? Just food for thought, this Alta team hasn't lost 1 game since starting high school! That is a preety big feat, and just goes to show you that this team knows how to win, and they have all played together for many, many, games! Once they got the jitters out on Friday, they pummeled Bingham into oblivian! They outscored the Miners 24-2 following the 1st quarter. Binghams only bright spots came on two special teams returns in the 1st quarter. Let's think about it; as dominant as Alta's defense was that night, and if Alta's special teams makes tackles, I don't see Bingham scoring 1 touchdown in that game. The final score might have looked something like 27-3! Start giving Alta it's due credit, and realize that this team is MORE loaded than the past two Alta teams!

re: Inexperienced Alta?
"This Alta team hasn't lost 1 game since starting high school!"

Didnt Alta Lose To bingham just last year? and if you are just talking about the sophmores... it has been 2 games... good job i guess?!? But a lot of teams havent lost yet that isnt all that big of a deal...

"and if Alta's special teams makes tackles, I don't see Bingham scoring 1 touchdown in that game."

I think the main word in this statement is "IF"... they obviously DID NOT make those tackles... If we are going to make "IF" statements we might as well say if bingham would have made 2 more touchdowns they would have won... DUH!

But dont worry I bet some other alta fans probably saw the same game that you did in your own little worlds... i am pretty sure that anybody who was at that game knows that alta had 2 or 3 big plays the 4th quarter but it was obvious that bingham had the talent

MORE loaded? You didn't just say that in public did you.Your absoulute obsession with getting out from last years teams shadow is clouding you judgement. This years team looks right now to be very good, but only time will tell. Don't crown them state champs just yet and don't put the "loaded" tag on these kids. They are a good group as a team but pound for pound last years team had more big time studs. Sorry to burst your bubble.
manti fann | 8:31 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
why isn't manti in the top 25???
Cowboy Fan | 8:38 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Someone please explain this to me. Two weeks in a row kanab hasnt gotten the respect we deserve. Whats the deal?
IF??? | 8:39 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
If Bingham would have jumped on that ball in the end zone...., and if the refs wouldnt have been scard to make the right call at the end of the half when there was still 1 second on the clock when the alta's qb got tackled.... and if the line would have blocked a little longer then the wide open recievers on those posts...If IF If If!!!!!!!!!!!!
re: Were we watching the same ga | 8:45 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Excellent post. I've been saying the same things all weekend. The comment about Alta dominating Bingham after the first quarter is just plain bull. How about Bingham dominated Alta the first three quarters and then just ran out of gas with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter. It's amazing what colored glasses can do for the eye sight.
re: re: Were we watching the sam | 9:46 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Bingham dominated Alta the first three quarters? What game were you watching... Bingham couldn't do anything against Alta's D ALL night. Bingham scored one touchdown on offense and that came about after they returned a punt to the 2 yard line. I would put that TD against special teams. And then their only other score was a long field goal. Props to the kicker. Anyways... think again before you say Bingham dominated Alta the first three quarters.
enogh!! | 10:07 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Enough about Bingham and Alta, Bingham is done with their glory days, they will be good/marginal for the next few years and then its back to typical Region 3 team.
reality | 10:08 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
to kanab and manti fan; Are you for real? Your varsitys could not beat any 4a or 5a JV let alone a varsity team. Get a clue!

What's a Manti ??

can we all have peace? and stop arguing about a booty team like bingham and a great team like alta?

These polls are just as crappy as the college polls. How is it that Bigham who is 0-2 still be in the top 25 and a few teams that are undefeated still have not cracked the polls. Go figure!!
TImp??? | 10:45 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Still not sure why Timpview has the second-longest winning streak in UHSAA history and they're only #2... Somebody beat Alta so the D-News writers will finally be convinced who is really No. 1!!! Oh wait...none of you can except for Timpview (THE REAL NO. 1!!!)
the real travesty | 10:58 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
is that South Summit is not #1! We beat Altamont and Duchesne! That's as good as Alta and Bingham any day of the week!
re: Timp??? | 11:24 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I have not followed Timpviews games the past 3 years. Have they played many of the top 5A teams in the state? They need to beat some of these teams to earn the respect. That is just the way it works. I know that they beat PG and SF this year the problem is it does not look like either of these teams is very strong this year.
SF player | 11:31 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
played against both Alta & Timpview this year Timpview could take Alta no problem.
Kearns | 11:32 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Anyone think kearns has a chance to beat alta this week?
re: SF player | 11:47 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
i am sure the DesNews is going to look at your comment and move Timpview up right away...

i mean they manhandle weak 4A teams, squeak by weak 5A teams, and claim they are the best, so we need to get them up to that #1 spot right away...

they have that same attitude at BYU (play weak non-conference teams to keep the wins coming), which is why there is no surprise Timpview is BYU's farm team...

Earn some respect by actually beating some of the top 5A teams before you claim you are #1...
Timpview schedule | 11:53 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Does TV ever play anyone from out of state. The first few games each year they should be playing some good AZ, NV or CA teams. For instance, the win that Jordan pulled off in Ohio outranks anything that TV has done lately. Even the St. George schools schedule the toughest Las Vegas teams year after year. PV even beat a decent CA team last week. Come on TV, toughen up your schedule for once.
Anonymous | 12:03 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
why does timpview need to toughen their schedule.

it looks like whatever they do is working and claiming that Jordan's win over a MEDIOCRE team from Ohio does NOT overshadow winning 3 out of 4 4A state championships (even if its 4A and not 5A).

Jordan has done absolutely NOTHING to claim fame to.
TV Schedule | 12:05 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I just checked back to 2001 with Timpviews schedule. They have played 2 out of state teams in all that time. Both times were a team from Hawaii. Both resulted in a loss. That's why they don't schedule out of state teams.
PG | 12:11 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
is plenty tough this year...
Islander | 12:19 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
While not entirely familiar with TV's "historic schedule" I do know that they played a Hawaii team (Punaho (sp?)) in the 2005 season and got POUNDED! Actually TV didn't even score! Luckily it was on the islands or more of you would know exactly what happened.
Anonymous | 12:40 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Way to go Timpview!!! Timpview should be bumped up to 5A and let them compete with the rest of the big dogs. I have talked to several 4A players and parents and they feel that Timpview is stacked to win. If they were to move up to 5A then everyone would be competing on a level playing field and Timpview could take the #1 place without any question as to their level of competition. Way to Go Alta. What a hard fought victory over a stud loaded Bingham team. Bingham has had a rare 0-2 start but I would expect them to be competing in another State final. I have to pick Alta to repeat as 5A champs, since I have a son that plays for Alta. This group of kids play together with alot of heart and no ego. The kids that have played together as soph and JV and now seniors have yet to lose a game. I do not expect that streak to last throughout their senior year(too many good teams) but it is still worth ackowledging. A majority of these seniors would have started as soph in many other programs.
hey islander.. | 12:48 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
that was timpviews one weak season after Unga, Reynolds, Ashworth and Covey.. i think they lost in the second round of the playoffs.

Kameha Meha is going to get stomped by Davis this thursday!
JA | 1:04 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
How many of the Timpview Players come from outside Timpviews boundaries or for that matter come from outside Provo. Its totally within policy but I was just wondering
TIMVPIEW FAN | 1:09 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I LOVE ALL THE TIMPVIEW BASHING. REPRESENTING HOW MUCH YOU GUYS WORSHIP US. IF WE DON'T STACK UP AGAINST HAWAII THEN UTAH FOOTBALL IS JUST WEAKER. BECAUSE TIMPVIEW DOMINATES THE COMPETITION HERE. THIS YEARS TEAM IS GOING TO STEAMROLL AGAIN!
another SF Player | 1:11 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I have to agree with SF Player Timpview seems to have faster and stronger lineman. My guess Timpview 24 Alta 14
Re: Timp Fan | 2:43 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
You are missing the point of the last few posts. We don't worship anybody, we are just pointing out that you can't win against anybody from out of state. Big deal that you can beat teams from around the SLC area. Now for the test. Schedule some good teams from out of state and let's see how you do. Many other Utah schools schedule out of state teams every year. These same schools actually even beat up on some of these schools every year. Die hard TV fans should insist that the coaches schedule some new blood for next season. Then we can all sit back and see just how good you guys really are. Padding your continuous win record with local talent is really not that impressive. Throw in a CA, NV, or another Hawaii school next year and then see what happens.
to set things straight | 3:11 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
for those of you who are complaining on why some undefeated teams arnt on the list and others that have lost are (most notable Bingham) rankings are not based soley on the teams record although it does weigh in heavily...ranks are determined by overall power of team and individual stats of players. So to those who think they should be on the list those teams need to either win alot or beat a team that is highly ranked! for example if someone unranked beat alta then they probably would raise the rankings pretty quick. That is also why Bingham is still rank becuase their schedule is tougher and they lost to alta who was #1 while they were #7 but the lose still brought them down to #12 =D hope this helps
really?? | 3:16 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
the biggest "travesty" is how skyline is ranked 4th just because they beat some awful bingham team and then squeaked by east... which is a less then mediocre 4A program. what hoo-ha's at the newspaper headquarters.
masslion hater | 3:21 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
all i know is that jordan is goin throw a beatdown on layton and then on bingham! they can't hang with are stuff! alta is not even number 1 material! but the point alex hart is tight!
TV Fan | 4:01 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
It is funny how some of you are "trashing" Utah football teams and saying that TV just beats up on "weak" UTAH teams.

TV plays their 4A region schedule and then whoever ends up in the 4A play-offs. Presumably, these are the best teams, right? Pine View, Cottonwood, etc?

Let's look at the record this year so far: The PG game was 10-6. Yep, that was a squeaker. The SF game was 57-12, a 45 point spread. When Alta played SF it was 42-6, a 36 point spread.

When TV played Punaho years ago ,it was 10-0 Punaho. Not a great TV game. The TV team was loaded with all of TV's future studs being freshmen and sophomores, Bills Bros, Kaufusi, etc.

Seems the standard of whether you are a good team or not doesn't have to do with whether you took state or your region but if you played an out of state team? Right?

Has your 5A school scheduled TV? Why the accusations that TV hasn't scheduled YOUR school? Perhaps TV should start accusations that YOUR school hasn't scheduled TV.

Pine View wanted to play TV preseason, but why? TV had already beat them at the state game.

Todd | 5:35 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Most teams have had the same pre-season schedule and they keep the same schedule because they stay loyal to the other team. Some teams should reconsider changing there schedule because the teams they are playing have gotten better or worse, depending on the quality of your team. Timpview is an incredible team, but until they go 5A no one is going to crown them Utah's best. Just stop trying to belittle them so much because that just makes them feel better about themselves. Come up to 5A and then we'll talk.
CWOOD Fan | 6:37 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Dear Todd:

Get it through your 5A head that 5A only means you have more students in your school.

Yes, those more students could POTENTIALLY provide access to a greater number of good athletes but not always.

By the way, TV is one of the smallest 4A schools in Utah. They cannot just "move up" to 5A.

But they would still give your hallowed 5A school a significant challenge in Football. And then, wouldn't that be embarrassing?

It is not some God given right that if you're a 5A school you are somehow BETTER in sports than a 4A school.

Lastly, you're right about one thing, No one crowned Timpview the best except TIMPVIEW themselves when they won, for the 2nd year in a row, the 4A state championship!

As an FYI, winning the state title generally means your the best in whatever you won state in, (I know you need a little help here, Todd).

And, Alta crowned themselves the best in 5A football when they won the state championship.

Now, were in a new year and we'll see.

Very narrow thinking, my friend~

with kearns talent they should beat alta... alta is overated
Davis fan | 7:02 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
i am a fan of davis but this is not their year.... to inexperienced and a little weak at the backer and qb positions.....GO DARTS
Todd | 7:35 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
C Wood fan you need to calm down buddy. I'm just saying don't bow down to Timpview like they are the best thing in Utah because they haven't proven that they are. I do think that Timpview could compete with the top 5A teams, but until they play the top teams in Utah they will not be crowned the very top team out of Utah. Your right, they did crown themselves best in state by winning state. But you forgot to mention something... They took state in 4A. So your right, they are the best in state. For all the 4A teams. Sour down man. I think your panties our still in a bundle cause we beat you in 04.
re: Davis Fan | 7:38 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Ya your right Davis fan. Davis is inexperienced at tail back... Hinds looks alright to me. He's leading the league in rushing TD's. Have you even watched your team play?
utah boi !!!!! | 8:13 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
we want copper hills to be ranked cause there doing good and they deserve it!!
Layton Fan | 8:42 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Cottonwood was ranked #4 last week, not #3. Layton was ranked #3 and would still be up there if it was not for dropped passes. At Bonneville, Layton would have had two more touchdowns if their recievers could catch. Likewise, it was two dropped passes in the end-zone in the last few seconds of the game that cost Layton the game against Cottonwood. If Layton could fix this problem, they could be back up to #3 in no time.
CWOOD Fan | 9:32 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Todd:

I DID say that Timpview were the State Champions in 4A. I did not forget to mention that as you claim.

Perhaps you need to sharpen up on your reading comprehension skills. I'm sure they teach that in 5A schools, don't they?

By the way, who is the "WE" in the ".....we beat you in "04"?

Please name your school and whether you were a player, a cheerleader or the tuba player during that time.

Ciao!
