The repub's are doing hand springs now that bush/cheney will not make it to the convention: I for one will not forget Katrina! You are doing a heck of a job Bushie!
Gov't is not solution!!! | 11:42 a.m. Sept. 1, 2008
I can't believe the GOP is turning away from its philosophy of states rights and "free market" to solve problems. Do they really believe the federal government should be involved with storm relief? Government is never the solution -- its the problem! Please, GOP, don't abandoned your core values if you want to keep you base!
To Gov't at 11:42 | 12:29 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
That's right! It's a good free market principle to let cities be destroyed and people die during natural disasters! Makes perfect economic sense!

The Repubs, have more class than the dems ever will, even in the face of adverisity they ask for help for others. Unlike the remarks of die hard dems like M Moore, when flooding was expected to happen at the GOP convention. There really is a God. Way to laugh at the misfourtune of others, the dems always have!

"James Dobsons Focus on the Family group sponsored a video telling members to pray for abundant rain, torrential rain flood-advisory rain..Im talking about umbrella-aint-gonna-help-you rain swamp-the-intersections rain.

"The target date was the day Barack Obama was to speak at the DNC convention. The plan was to summon God-sized, vengeful payback for positions accomodating gays and womens choice."
Heh heh | 1:11 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
And as it turns out that Dobson's call for rain worked out exactly as well as Sarah Palin's insistence on abstinence-only sex education.

I think it's great that they are wanting to help. I hardly doubt that Obama would think of it. His mind seems to be centered around one thing..HIMSELF!

The Republicans are handing out pamphlets called "Country First". Looks like their trying to find a nice politically-correct way to politicize the storm.

Wow.

To Govt at 11:42: If you are the "base" the rest of us Republicans "who have compassion" will not miss your vote.
Sorry, CP (1:56 p.m.) | 5:20 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
You've got that backwards. McCain is the one who's planning on going to the storm area for a photo op, thereby stressing the already stressed resources of the area by making the workers have to put aside their aid work to accomodate a publicity hound and his entourage. Obama, on the other hand, made his entire campaign staff in the area, and all his volunteers, available to the aid workers to help in the cleanup effort. He eschewed publicity for the greater good.

Kudos to Obama, and boo-hiss to McCain, for the way each decided to approach this problem.

There were protestors at the Dems' convention, but the media was biased enough to not report it. No surprise that this is the top news regarding the Republican Convention. And we wonder why the public is seeking their information elsewhere.
Former Utahn | 5:32 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
What I don't get is the protesters. You had your convention, let us have ours. I swear, the left wing in our country is beginning to scare me. They want to silence any voice that doesn't agree with them.
Former Utahn | 5:35 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Incidentally, I don't agree with what Dodson & co did either. Let the Dems have their convention without the tempest and let the best party win in November.
Cats | 6:02 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
The Republicans have handled this exactly right. The Republican governors of the five gulf states have worked in excellent coordination. Much has been learned from the Katrina tragedy. The people of Louisiana have recognized who was mostly to blame for the problems with Katrina and have replaced Kathleen Blanco with Bobby Jindhal. When President Bush offered help, he didn't ask for "24 hours to think about it." He is doing a great job.

McCain and the GOP have acted completely appropriately, turning the first day of the convention into a fundraising event for the storm ravaged area. The Republicans have shown compassion and concern for fellow Americans in distress.

And as far as CLASS goes--Republicans (unlike the Democrats)didn't make tacky jokes about whose side God is on or whether we now know there is a GOD because of this Hurricane.

Way to go Republicans! | 6:14 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
The courage to sacrifice valuable media coverage out of respect for endangered citizens will remind people why the Republicans keep getting re-elected.

The reality is that while Americans like the glitz of a Clinton or a Carter, they know the country needs a Reagan or a McCain to set things right.

Obama was gracious when he said "It (the pregnancy of Palin's daughter) has no relevance to Gov. Palin's performance or her potential as a VP."

But he was wrong. It has much relevance in so many ways.

Will Palin veto legislation supporting women's rights for prenatal care? Will she support sex education besides abstinence based?
Will she attempt to force her opinions on children who don't have the family support that her daughter presumably has?

I can't help but ask, "What kind of mother would accept the position of VP candidate when she knows (or was she too niave to understand) that the national press would swoop down to expose her daughter?" Surely she knew that would happen. Is her personal ambition that strong? People criticize another woman for her "ambition," but I've seen nothing like this.

And if Palin didn't realize that this is what would happen to her child, then she has NO business stepping onto the national stage!

Let's hope she has a whole VILLAGE to take care of her children, because she's going to need it!

FamilyFirst | 6:17 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
With a new baby with downs syndrome and now an unwed teen-age daughter who is pregnant, I think that Gov. Palin should be home nurturing those children. Family first. There are other qualified VP candidates.

No Cats, your right, having the Republican right asking their flock "to pray for abundant rain, torrential rain flood-advisory rain..Im talking about umbrella-aint-gonna-help-you rain swamp-the-intersections rain.

Sister's messy divorce and custody battle, sexually active teenage daughter and iligitimate child, and now ABC NEWS is reporting that her husband was arrested and charged for DUI - Thanks McCain for dragging the Palin trailer-park saga into the national spotlight for the Republicans. Stay classy Gov. Palin.
independent | 7:02 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
As a independent and latino, I feel more close to Senator McCain than Senator Obama, because so far Mr. McCain has shown more wisdom and experience my feelings are Obama is heading for a big failure. All he is showing is to be a big talker but I don't connect with his empty promises.
Empty Suits | 7:03 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
I don't think it matters who is becomes president or vice president. They are all a bunch of empty suits and empty skirts. Out of all the people in the U.S.A., we are only left with these four? What has happened to America?
Ronald A. Young | 9:04 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Mrs.Palins, daughter is Pregnant. So she is going to be a Grandmother sooner then expected. This does not affect Mrs. Palins values in any way. What I
want to see is how she copes with it.

I would hope that the Daughter would either keep the Baby or put the baby up for Adoption to a good two parent, Heterosexual, faith based home.

This will set a good example to Mr. Obama and his "I would not want my daughter punished with a baby" statement.

Good Pro Life Values not the "Gods punishment for having Sex, you have to keep the baby because of the Sin Debt" make room for family life adjustments and adoptions. Except for the conception being out of Wedlock this should be a happy time. Of course there are legal questions.

If their is a possibility of Marriage that should be the answer, then help them with School, Jobs, Childcare or all of the above.

What you are not going to do is throw a fit, force an Abortion, sneak her off to Aunt Becky, condemn her throw her out of the House. Strike Her, or excommunicate her, as an example to the other Girls.

Carter had 'glitz'?
He did a phenomenal job of hiding it.

My Stepdaughter, got Pregnant out of Wed Lock, Got married and is still married to the Father of the Child + two more and another on the way. He was in the Navy and is now a long haul truck driver, so I guess when he is home about 1 week a month, they have fun. I wish they had owned up to it, instead of making me look foolish to other family members, until this 10 pound little boy was born a month early. My Stepdaughter weighing about 105 pounds soaking wet, I am sure glad he was not full term. The truth would have been easier for all concerned. I would have seen a reason for them getting married, as I did not see any before. Now he makes a good living and supports his family. The Church is not a Question ever. They are not in it.

Lots of Good Girls get Pregnant out of wedlock, that does not make them bad girls or bad mothers. Or for that matter bad Saints. Lots of Good boys get good girls pregnant. Thats called Hormones and lack of protection and bad timing. Sometimes Hormones Trump every thing else.

Obama had a single mom. Then his grandparents

Jesus had a single mom, then step dad.

(I started with Obama first because more people know about Obama than Jesus).

ABC News reported that Todd Palin was arrested for a DUI... 22 years ago. Is this the best that the left can come up with?

If Obama's daughter got pregnant out of wedlock, we would be hearing how George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were to somehow to blame for the debacle. Maybe even Reagan. But the opposite has happened. A girl gets pregnant and she keeps the baby. Imagine that!

Sarah Palin not only talks of values, she lives them!
Laughing` | 11:01 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
So the party of "family values" has a candidate who is such a neglectful mother that she raises a slut and now they're trying to spin it that she is great for choosing to keep the baby. Just what the world needs - another uneducated piece of trailer trash raising the next generation of trash. It is unbelievable that this was the choice McCain made. He's an imbecile. Palin needs to go spend her time on raising kids since she's already screwed up with one of them. And no, good girls do not get pregnant - sluts do.
Put themselves ahead of country | 11:22 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Linguist,

"The Republicans are handing out pamphlets called "Country First". Looks like their trying to find a nice politically-correct way to politicize the storm.:

They didn't put country first when they sent our sons, daughters, fathers, mothers and all of our loved ones to fight and die in a war of aggression based solely on their opinions instead they decided their opinions were more important then the lives of those of us who disagree with them and they seek to hide their violation of our fundamental rights behind their right to vote. As if the right to vote gives them the right to send us to fight offensive wars.

We fought a Revolution against the British because they felt their right to vote gave them the right to start wars of aggression that we would be forced to fight and die in. We didn't revolt because they took part in defensive wars instead we chose to revolt because of the offensive wars. The words in the Declaration of Independence place all blame on the King, this was for propaganda purposes, since many of the Americans still had attachments to the monarchy but the blame was with the British people.
Smile for the cameras | 11:27 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
So a few weeks ago McCain sent his wife overseas to Georgia for an accessment of the wounded. And on the eve of the Republican convention, McCain and his wife are standing in front of FEMA headquarters for yet another photo opportunity to discuss the hurricane situation.

The McCains sure know how to smile for the cameras, don't they?
Neighbors votes evil & immoral | 12:09 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Thomas Paine said it best:

"It is my humanity that makes me urge you against a reconciliation with Great Britain, for if this takes place, nothing can prevent the American colonies from being the seat of war as often as the King of Great Britain renews his quarrels with any of the Colonies, or with any of the belligerent powers of Europe."

Today, the belligerent powers are the members of the Republican Party and our loved ones die because of them.

"Because, any submission to, or dependence on Great Britain, tends directly to involve this continent in European wars and quarrels; and sets us at variance with nations, who would otherwise seek our friendship, and against whom, we have neither anger nor complaint."

We have become involved in the quarrels of others and it has caused terrorists to attack us and kill our loved ones. Republicans chose to go beyond responding to these attacks by going after those responsible to sending our loved ones to die in a war of aggression based solely on their opinion just like the British did in the French and Indian War.

We must not submit to the tyranny of our neighbors.
