Here come the Layton excuses, let's hear what you guys got?
Say all you want about LAyton, BUT, they are a very good talented team. They probably should have won that game, and I think that game will help them win a close one next time.
A ton of speed, good line play, great QB.
Memo to other Region 1 teams, beware!
That was a fun game to watch, I was on the edge of my seat the whole game. Cottonwood had a lot of talent. I was impressed how both teams never gave up. Good game Lancers and Colts.
It was a good game, Why the sour grapes from someone obviously from Salt Lake???? Preseason works out the kinks.
No excuses, but note that Top running back out. 2 Top defense guys out. Injuries plagued Layton, before and after the game. This game was dominated by Layton's offense AND defense. ONly a couple good drives by Cottonwood, that were broken open by your awesome tailback. Layton beat themselves. Mistakes, fumble returns. The kickoff returns negated themselves. Was an awesome game to put in the classics book. Too bad the good guys lost.
oh yeah, AND....Layton dominating the time of possession 34:37 to 13:33
My last entry didn't go thru. I don't look for 'excuses'. I look at reasons of what to improve on. If I'm a coach and my top 2 defensive players, along with my top offensive player being out....I have to adjust and move people around. Layton dominated this game on the offensive end, 34-14 minutes time of possession, but had turnovers and costly penalties with killed drives. The amount of energy spent to come back 19 down, and score 29 unanswered points, was huge, and took a toll on the Lancers, as several were worn down with cramps and injuries....and all playing thru them.
My hat off to Cottonwood, as they played well. Layton has truly proven their a force to be reckoned with this year.....and it's not just a 1-time fluke that they were in the State Championship.
No excuses that is what your whole comment talks about. Every single team deals with injuries and our top 2 defensive players werent out they are Karl and Shea. The Lancers just ran out of gas and Cottonwood made plays in the clutch. Cottonwood is a great team and I am glad they are in 4A so we dont have to see them in the playoffs. Go Layton.
Something that is not mentioned in this article is the delay of game late in the 4th quarter on the lancers. That penalty will be the one that ended up costing them the game. The tough thing is it was not the players fault as they sat there waiting for their O coordinator to get the play in. Once it was obvious they may get a delay it looks as if they decided to concede to five yards to save their final timeout. They were up by 3 at the time and a first down may have sealed the game. I love coach batch but I really think this is something coach Gate should allow to happen. He is experienced enough and there is no excuse for allowing a delay of game penalty to cost you the game!
hey anonymous was right the excuses are coming. i'm shocked i haven't heard the one that cottonwood was 4A. thats a joke you have a preseason tune-up game against a 4A team and can't pull it out. But hey supposedly the top teams in 5A should dominate a good 4A team. well ya layton obviously isn't a top team in 5A
This was one of the best games to watch. Back and forth just when you though Cottonwood owned the game 26 to 7, then Layton's come back and you thought it was over at 36 to 26 then Cottonwood's come back, then layton two times in the end zone with dropped passes in the last 33 seconds. Very impressed with both teams sportsmanship. This close and only one or two personal penalties.
Toodles, get a grip and know the teams on which you comment........... Layton IS a very good 5A team and will go far in the post season.....Give credit to Cottonwood they are and can be as good as anybody (4A or 5A) on any given night....GREAT GREAT football game to watch and the Layton players and fan are stand up people !!! GOOD LUCK TO BOTH CLUBS
Bring on the excuses. The only thing Layton is better at then finding excuses is grilling burgers for the Davis kids.
Hate to say i told you so.
Good job cottonwood!
From what I have heard and read, that game must have been a dang good game. people can say what they want about layton making excuses about the game. but what if that kid catches the ball in the endzone for layton in those last seconds, would cottonwood be making excuses for a blown cover? so it goes both ways. both teams will finish deep in the playoffs. good luck
keep living in your plastic bubble over in kaysville. what have you done? blow out two struggling programs. the only person worth a dang at davis was mcfaddan and he is gone. So keep talking, all you want at the end of the day, you still have to look yourself in the mirror and wonder how long you can live off of your parents. You see there comes a time in life when you will move form the plastic bubble and you will have no clue what to do. You see Davis is hated by everyone, and davis parents think there kids do know wrong, but look in the mirror and more than likely your kids are the worse of them all. MOney can only take you so far. As for football, do something then talk. Wait until you get into region, your soph qb will not be as good.
Wow who are you to talk. Your parents talk you up so much it is unreal. You have had a good group of kids. You have had 2 winning seasons in 20 years. Davis has had 2 losing seasons in 20 years. They have a state championship and 3 finals apperances and quite a few playoff apperances. What does layton have to show? A state championship apperance with the easiest road to final game as possible. When you get a clue then talk. It isnt all about money ether because if you havent noticed Davis is one of the biggest high schools in the state and for some reason they get bigger every year. Everyone is building houses in Davis boundaries. But everyone hates Davis. Thats funny.
Way to never give up fellas, and good job layton way to fight and come back from 26-7.. I also think cottonwood capitalized on Laytons mistakes and that is what great football teams have to do. I think this game showed that just because it is 4A doesen't mean they will lose. The colts have won 2 5A games in a row.
Nice job Colts!
Layton... you guys are TOUGH!!! Good luck on the rest of your season!
