To all the Obama supporters. Keep up your overconfidence. Keep up your underestimation of Mccain and Palin. Then, when the deabtes come, your candidates will come away look like befoons.

The feminists hate Palin, party because she's a total hottie!

McCain will find Pallin's problems at home to be a major speedbump. McCain or Obama? Neither is worth squat! That said, I am going to vote for the one with the best energy plan. Why? Because importing vast quantities of oil from Arab states has caused a failing economy in the U.S., bankrolled worldwide terrorism and destroyed our planet. Obama is naive and McCain is an ahole. But at leat McCain has recognized that nuclear power, wind and natural gas are our only hope. Obama will continue to pursue bio-fuels and solar. Both make no sense economically. Vote for the better of tow nit-wits! Vote McCain.
deabtes? HuH? | 2:27 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Obama and company will kill the uneducated McCain and his newest quest in any debate.

Debate will quiet down the repubs and out will come the Rove swift boats.

Thats all they got. Lies, unsubstantiated lies, and more lies. Nobody want to answer the question of why they have done nothing but drag America down for eight years straight. And you want to keep voting them in?

Grandpa needed a cheerleader, that's all.

She is very well qualified: some years as a mayor, 2 years as a governor... and soon she will be one heart beat away from running the greatest nation on the face of the earth.

Is this nuts or what!!!! John could not find a better candidate???? Of course, but grandpa wanted a cheerleader.

That's all. Her knowledge of foreign affairs: zero, zip. Her experience around Washington DC: zero, zip.

Yup, grandpa John wanted a cheerleader.........

criminey.......... get me Obama's number so i can pledge money and time to defeating grandpa and the cheerleader!!!

Yes, obviously if Sarah Palin is on the ticket, it must be an omen of God's will.

Ha ha. Sarah Palin is the Republican Obama.
Observer | 2:46 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Hopefully, after 8 years of a born again right wing loon in office, American voters don't want 4 more years of the same. And that's what Palin is. A born again right wing loon.
More Qualified | 3:00 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Sarah is more qualified than Obama. She worked her way and earned her office as Gov unlike Obama who had to get help from a terrorist, racist preacher and a thug to get him his spot as US Senator. Obamabots feel threatened because she has actually accomplished more in her two years as Gov than Obama has in his 4 years as US senator.
Eyes Wide Open | 3:01 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Harriet Miers looked more qualified for the Supreme Court than Sarah Palin does for the Vice Presidency. McCain really is just another Bush III. No thank you.
To More Qualified | 3:08 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Surely you jest. Please tell me I fell for the bait. Palin more qualified than Obama because she worked her way up and earned her office. There is probably no-one saying she didn't. But to say obama didn't work is ludicrous. But then someone like yourself who would make the statement you made probably hasn't made the effort to check into any of the candidates qualification. Had you made the mninimum effort to do so you would know the road that McCain took to get to the Senate using his fathers influence in the Military and his father in laws money and influence to get into politics. Do a little homework!
Yes Sarah Yes! | 3:17 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
We're going to re-name our daughter to 'Sarah Palin'!!!!!!!!! So exciting!!!!!
Go SARAH | 3:20 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I've watched Sarah Palin for months now after hearing several speeches and interviews with her. Her only problem is that she is just too honest for Washington. I find it laughable when people question her experience. The top of the Dem ticket is as inexperienced as it can get. I don't have a problem with that as much as I do someone promising ua EVERYTHING. Who's taxes are going to pay for these wild promises? All of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope Mitt is called to a cabinet post.
Sarah Palin is a Mormon! | 3:23 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
"...But I'm glad so many Des News readers are so enthusiastic about someone who thinks Mormons aren't Christians =)..."

Well why wouldn't they be? These readers know that Mormons are Christians...so therefore, Christians are Mormons! So, Mrs. Palin is in fact, a Mormon! Yay!

I am a fan of Mitt Romney and believe he is more qualified than either Obama or McCain to fix the economy. However, if you make a list of Obama's qualifications to become president and compare that list with the Palin list, Obama does not look very good. My biggest concern about Obama is not his lack of qualifications, but his ultra extreme liberal philosophy. Today, I intend to vote for McCain and Palin.
Sarah Palin! | 3:27 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I am already dancing with Sarah Palin at the inaugeration ball! In my head, I mean! We look very elegant dancing across the floor; I look at her and I say, "Do you like luxury?" and she is like, "but of course!" and then I'm like "I like flannel!" and she's like "Me TOO!" so that's pretty much where I'm at.

I'm voting for her!

I see nothing wrong with using family connections to get your foot in the door in politics, the Kennedy's have been doing it for a few generations. To say Obama worked hard to get where he is, is a joke and insult. As a state sen the guy avoided risks and voted present on anything can come back and bit him in the butt. The little time he spent playing US Senator he voted party line. Pretty lame for a person who preaches hope and change.

I can make the argument that Palin is just as qualified and experienced as Obama if not more. You can't make the argument that Obama is more qualified and experienced than McCain. He isn't even as qualified or exp as his own vp, Biden. McCain and Palin have a list of accomplishments and substance, Obama has no substance and very few accomplishments in which most aren't even worth mentioning. The few I have seen are overinflated by his supporters and biased journalists. Obama should just switch spots with Biden.
Kevin | 4:41 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
In terms of experience being an executive, she has more experience from being governor just 1.5 years than Obama, Binen, and McCain combined To my knowledge, none of them have been governors or executives of any kind.
Iron Cold Steve | 5:32 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
After watching the Obama speech, he hit a home run, right out of the park. The Demo party thought it was an easy road to the White House, it was all locked up. Then steps out McCain with Gov. Palin and hit a grand slam. The Demo's need to score a few more runs. Once the debates start that's where the ball game begins. Obama brings in the relief pitcher Biden and bam she hits a grand slam again. The good ole white boy club in DC is fixin to get knocked down, Keep the peanuts and popcorn handy, it's gonna be a great ball game. AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE. Go Huskers!!!

A few interested tidbits about Governor Palin:

* She was born in Sandpoint, Idaho and her family moved to Alaska.

* She was first elected to office in 1992 -- two years before Obama first ran for the state senate.

* She and her husband eloped to avoid the costs of a wedding. They were married in front of the local clerk.

* Her husband is part Eskimo and has won the world's longest snowmobile race three times.

* Gov. Palin ran a commercial fishing operation for many years.

* She was a championship high school basketball player and attending the University of Idaho.

* Her oldest boy joined the Army and is going to Iraq in September.

* To offset gas prices, she pushed through a $1200 tax rebate for every Alaskan.

* She oversaw the Alaskan Oil Commission and modified the state oil tax so that revenue was based on money made, not barrels pumped. Fiercely opposed by the oil companies.

* Negotiated installation of huge natural gas pipeline with Canadian and U.S. officials.
Re: More qualified | 5:46 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
"She worked her way and earned her office as Gov unlike Obama who had to get help from a terrorist, racist preacher and a thug to get him his spot as US Senator."

She got elected governor in the great Republican state of Alaska because she beat incumbent Frank Murkowski in the primary. Murkowski had made some stupid decisions and some tough budget cuts at a time when oil revenues weren't what they are today. His approval ratings the year of Palin's election were running around 27%. In other words, Palin "had to get help" from an incompetent Republican. I really fail to see how Palin "earned her office unlike Obama".
dcc | 5:57 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
They had to go to the middle of nowhere to find this one. They needed a woman to appeal to women voters and someone way over to the crazy right to appeal to the crazy right in the GOP. 'Guess there aren't many on that list.

Real women who supported Hillary Clinton will NOT support this person. She is the anti-thesis of everything they liked in Mrs. Clinton. The crazy right of the GOP will like her but they're own standards she should be home with her children. I guess she doesn't care about them.

I hope Biden eviscerates her.
soccer mom | 6:18 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I am deeply offended by the pick, and more so by those who think Palin would be able to get Clinton's voters. Why in the world would people think any woman will be able to replace Hillary? Clinton's supporters might be a bit too passionate and too emotional, but most of them have enough brains to know that Palin is different from Clinton. Palin is an ultra conservative which is distasteful to many progressive-minded Clinton supporters. McCain is a gambler; this pick shows that he has no idea what progressive women are thinking.
Anonymous | 6:26 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
She's already under an ethics investigation in Alaska and the outcome was previously scheduled to be just 2 days before the election.

What was McCain thinking?????????? Is he that desperate or that stupid?
Seattle | 6:50 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I had heard some positive things before but one thing I like is a sense of competancy. After Bush, any person with a sense of ability is a breath of fresh air.

By the way, Evengelicals have not been good presidents. Bush and Jimmy Carter. Not a great record. I have been surprise how dishonest Bush has been (ie lying about McCanns black child in first election, firing US attorney's if they did not prosecute Democrates and of course the lies about the Irag war). Do Evengelicals support those actions of one of their own?

Unfortuately, I am afraid the Evengelical vote was a factor in chosing the VP for McCann. It might be right or it might be wrong in the end. However, for for now it shows again that they cant look beyond someones religion.
Go, Obama! | 7:40 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
For McCain to assume that Sen. Hillary Clinton's supporters will support Gov. Palin simply because she is a woman is an insult to women everywhere. A former beauty queen and small-town mayor for vice-president? Get real! At least, Obama went to Harvard and has some national experience. Palin has to be the worst pick in history. McCain, you certainly nailed the choice for me. Go, Obama!
Hucktwain | 7:38 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Let us not forget one of our countrys finest presidents, Abraham Lincoln, who, like Sarah Palin, had little elected political office or foreign experience prior to becoming president of the United States of America, and yet the inexperienced Lincoln quickly proved to be one the most extraordinary leaders in our nations history while it was split asunder by a bloody civil war. And the similarities between the two are noteworthy: honest, high moral values, ambitious, frontier pluck and grit, hunters and athletic, no strong ties to Washington or connections to unsavory characters or confederations, Republicans, a parent, commoners who hobnobbed primarily with other commoners, worked in white and blue-collar jobs, born of undistinguished families, fighters against corruption and indignities, a belief in an Almighty, self-made, and conservative.

Palin has all the makings of becoming another Lincoln in modern-day Americawhats not to like about that?
Anonymous | 7:45 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
We need to deal directly with the so-called ethics investigation on Palin.

This is over pressure by various people to have her ex-son-in-law fired. He was a state policeman.

Now, why?

Let's see . .

* He tasered a 10 year old at his home.

* He threatened to kill Gov. Palin's father if he helped his daughter obtain legal counsel in the divorce.

* He was accused of --- and received a restraining order --- for violence against his former wife.

* Caught driving under the influence.

It is clear that some members of Gov. Palin's staff and her husband questioned why he was still on the state police force. How do we know? GOV. PALIN voluntarily disclosed those facts after investigation.

The investigation is being conducted by the Alaska Legislature. Gov. Palin has cooperated openly with them.

The only way there is wrongdoing is if you think it is appropriate for a state policeman with this man's record to remain on the force.

McCain's choice of Palin as VP is very smart in the short term for the election --- but rather a backhanded slap for the long-term position. Not a serious choice just a politically expedient one. Demonstrates very well what kind of a presidency McCain would have.
Emmmm | 8:09 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5
She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered speciesshe was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7
Funny... | 8:12 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
A lot of people are saying that they think she is a bad choice for vice president because of her lack of experience. Do they not realize that she has years more of executive experience than NObama? With NO executive experience, why is NObama such a better choice as PRESIDENT?
Larry | 8:37 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I like the Lincoln comparison, that was my thought yesterday. Let's look at the positives and quit guessing about what might be in a negative sense. It is pretty easy to hide behind an anonymous name and fire arrows at people. I admire these candidates who stand up for what they believe. I think both parties have a good balance, all we have to decide in my mind is about character and integrity and I like what I see in the Republican ticket understanding that none of the candidates posses all the qualities I would like on a presidential ticket. I think many who comment just do so with emotion and not good sense, think things through before you comment.
Obama's talking point . . | 8:47 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Emmmmmmm---

Uhmmmmm . . looks like you forgot to edit the Obama talking points before posting.

A few counters . .

* Palin has been in political office since 1992. During that time, in different positions, she has cut taxes, reduced spending, exposed unethical behavior and, today, runs a $5 billion operation (the State of Alaska). Far more depth than Mr. Obama's few years in the Illinois Senate and U.S. Senate --- both in which he failed to vote or often voted present.

* Sure, Palin is pro-life. But, Obama is pro-infanticide opposing legislation to protect baby's that had been born alive after an abortion.

* Palin's support of Buchanan was when she was in her 20s, just getting into politics. She didn't launch her career in the home of a former bomber of NYC police hq and the U.S. Capitol like Obama did.

* Polar bears. Palin fought federal endangered species designation for one good reason --- the numbers were INCREASING. The law requires the number to be falling.

I'm sure Palin --- a mother, a conservative, and a reformer --- drives you nuts. But, the country likes her more than Joe Biden. She'll be a good VP.

Just one last thought- from Vietnam.

McCain just dropped a 1000 lb bomb on the Obama camp.

/they are going to be digging for about the next two months.

I told my wife months ago that if Mitt won the nomination he should ask Palin to be his running mate. She impressed the heck out of me then, and she solidified that opinion Friday in Dayton.

As for DCC who thinks REAL women won't vote for Palin, may I point out that real women love being women, being faithful, being married and being mothers. They also think... and can never be classed as "just another pretty face." You and your liberal ilk are promoting a rather phony version of womanhood. And your attacks on a real woman, as Palin most assuredly is, because she isn't sympathetic to your family destructive policies are going to backfire, big time.

Especially since you and your ilk are promoting an avid socialistic communist whose policies would destroy the essence of this country. The contrast couldn't be greater.

Justin B. | 9:35 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
When I read the article my first thought was she sounds like a female Theodore Roosevelt. I hope she is as good as she sounds.
I haven't been excited about the idea of voting for McCain but in my opion he is certainly better that Obama and Biden with their first and third most liberal voting records. His choice of Palin encourages me that he will make a strong stand against gay rights and abortion. I also feel much more confident in his foreign policy ability than Obama's.
I just hope enough Americans have the wisdom to reject the Obama-Biden ticket.
Desperation | 9:41 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
A desperate pick by McCain. Anyone who follows politics closely knows that the inside polls conducted by both parties shows that Obama has a much larger lead than what the mainstream media polls are showing. McCain had to do anything to get some votes, so he did. He picked a born again woman hoping that she would appeal to both women and evangelicals. It won't work. Most voters are paying much more attention to this campaign than they did in 04. They realize this is nothing more than pandering. Putting the nation at risk by selecting an incompetent. McCain has insulted the intelligence of the American voter, he's insulted women, and he's shown that he puts himself above country. He just lost the election.

Smart, smart choice! How could anybody says that Palin has less experiences than OBAMA or even BIDEN (in EXECUTIVE/ADMINISTRATIVE and INTERPERSONAL AREAS).Within a short few years she has been so successful in so many areas:as a wife, a sacrificing
mother,a religious devotee, a mayor even with only 7,000 citizens, as an aggressive "people's interests
first"politician/reformer, an active governor with 80%plus approval rate.It does not take this Lady long to catch up with foreign/military affairs. As
far as OBAMA's experiences as concerned:2 years as
a community worker(requiring some interpersonal and
organizational skills),and a few years in the Senate
( requiring OBAMA some legal knowledge but most done by office/legal experts) OBAMA or even BIDEN DOES NOT have any executive/administrative experiences.PALIN is better-qualified than both OBAMA and BIDEN(Biden's experiences better only in
foreign/military affairs;ABAMA is not Better than
PALIN in any areas!!! VOTE MCCAIN-PALIN-BETTER TEAM!
VOTE ON INTEGRITY,ON HONESTY,ON "COUNTRY FIRST" TEAM!!1
BO is Scary | 10:06 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Barak Obama scares me. He doesn't have a patriotic bone in his body. His "feel-good" rhetoric and grand promises makes me think of Hitler. Not that I expect things to be that bad, but just about everything BO promises will equate to less freedom for you and I. The last thing we need as a nation is more government control, i.e. socialism / socialistic programs. People need to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and deal with their problems, not get bailed out by the government. The Republicans are doing too much of that as it is, it'll get much worse if the Democrats win the white house.

You won't be losing your gov. She'll be back, and soon. This is a loser through and through.

THIS LDS mom of 8 will NOT be voting for someone who thinks so little of her family. I know, you'll tell me she has 'mr. mom' at home. Bull. In fact, that's what we've been fed by McCain.

Yea, I'm over it now. I will be voting for Obama. Why? I don't think he'll be even remotely a good president. But it's only for 4. Let's make history electing the second comming guy, get it over with and move on in 4.
Jerry for VP in 2012 | 10:28 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
McCain has chosen his mistress to be his V.P running mate so he can have her in Washington without anyone knowing any better. Shame on both of them. There's no way that a 2 year Governor, and former Mayor and City Councilwoman is qualified to be Vice President or to assume the Presidency if McCain dies.

McCain has the audacity to question Obama's experience and then choose someone whose only experience in public office is on the Orem (oops, that's the Wasilla City Council) City Council. Why would he choose Jerry Washburn (oops, there I go again confusing our local version of Sarah Palin with Sarah).

If we are really lucky Jerry will run for Governor, get elected, serve two years and then be chosen as someone's VP running mate.
Your Buddy for VP | 10:30 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Here is my political plan:

1) get elected to the Orem City Council,
2) serve two terms,
3) get elected mayor for two terms,
4) run for Lt. Governor of Utah and lose,
5) run for Governor and serve two years,
6) Get chosen as a VP running mate by an old guy,
7) hope the old guy dies and become President.

All my friends and family in Orem can remember the good old days when we hung out in our back yard and can be happy that I became President.

Then I can start a war of aggression because my buddies who hung out in my backyard voted for me as did someone else's buddies.
Tell it to qualified women | 10:51 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Desperation,

"A desperate pick by McCain."

Desperate is an understatement. He wanted a woman and a Governor but instead of choosing someone like Governor Rell who served for 10 years as a State Representative, 10 years as a Lt. Governor, and 4 years as Governor he chooses a woman who served for 4 years as a City Councilwoman, 6 years as a Mayor and as Governor of 2 years.

But even better then that is he didn't choose someone like Elizabeth Dole or Kay Hutchison who served for 4 years as a State Representative, 2 years as Vice Chairman of the NTSB, 3 years as State Treasurer, and 15 years in the U.S. Senate.

"McCain has...insulted women, and he's shown that he puts himself above country. He just lost the election."

There are literally hundreds of qualified women in this country who could serve as Vice President and assume the Presidency if necessary but Sarah Palin is not one of them. It's an insult to women in general to choose a two term City Councilwoman, two term mayor and a governor of only two years to be his VP running mate.
Next VP - the guy next door | 11:01 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Obama's talking point,

"Palin has been in political office since 1992."

As a City Council, Mayor and 2 years as a Governor. That's not saying much. There are hundreds of women who have been in public office prior to 1992 and who are still serving in public office.

"Far more depth than Mr. Obama's few years in the Illinois Senate and U.S. Senate --- both in which he failed to vote or often voted present."

This is a lie. You, like that lady from Wasilla are a liar. I'm glad that I'm not her neighbor and I'm sorry for the people of Wasilla who know her family and have to put up with them.

"I'm sure Palin --- a mother, a conservative, and a reformer --- drives you nuts. But, the country likes her more than Joe Biden. She'll be a good VP."

No, we hate her and we hate you. So shut your mouth voter and go to hell with your family. Won't do you and your family of voters move in with her family of voters since you love her so damn much. I'm sick of you trash so shut the hell up and vote for one another.

"A lot of people are saying that they think she is a bad choice for vice president because of her lack of experience. Do they not realize that she has years more of executive experience than NObama? With NO executive experience, why is NObama such a better choice as PRESIDENT?"

Because Obama has executive experience. He has led the Harvard Law Review, served as the director of a community organization and has held public office. To assume that a 2 year Governor has more experience because she moved to the Governor's mention from the house next door is ignorant and you are just a moron like my neighbor so take your post neighbor and go vote for that moron down the street that you are friends with because this voter knows that neighbors like you are morons and my family of voters know that your family of voters aren't our friends and we hate you for your votes and you can tell that moron spouse of yours that this neighbor agrees with Sarah's neighbors that think she is stupid.

I would vote for her neighbor who thinks she's moron before her.

Veni vidi vici | 8:23 a.m. -

"I watched her on television and absolutely love her. However, I do not think she is ready to be just one heartbeat away from the Presidency, particularly given McCain's old age and health history."

Why is it you think B. Hussein Osama, who has less administrative experience and is even closer than a heart beat away, would be a better choice?
Mayor Villaraigosa for VP | 11:37 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
ThanhBinh,

"How could anybody says that Palin has less experiences than OBAMA or even BIDEN (in EXECUTIVE/ADMINISTRATIVE and INTERPERSONAL AREAS)."

It's easy because it's true. Obama has led a staff of editors larger then her entire staff as Governor of Alaska while he was still a student at Harvard Law School. Please explain her two years as Alaska's Governor is REAL executive experience except in the eyes of Palin and yourself.

I'm going to urge all my neighbors to run for City Council so in a few years they can become the V.P. running mate like Sarah Palin. Then they can run for Mayor and as Governor.

After all being a mayor of a large town like Orem will especially qualify them to be President. Or better yet I will urge that 18 year old Mayor of a town about the size of Sarah's to do the same. I guess it is really hard to run a town when a 18 year old can do it. I guess it's really hard to be Governor of a state smaller then some counties. I guess if being Governor of Alaska qualifies you to be VP being Mayor of Los Angeles County is.
