Utahns react to McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin

The only reason I had heard of her was when Jason Chaffetz went to Alaska to
check out Anwr. He spoke well of her then, did a press release with her and had
his photo taken, and based on what I have read, I am glad Gov. Palin was chosen.
I really wanted Mitt, but if not Mitt, Gov. Palin was a good choice.

I also like Mitt, but I think Sarah is an even better choice. I am thrilled
McCain chose her. She is energizing the Republican base and I have no doubt
she'll pull in voters that were undecided. I'm doubtful that her pick
"creates an opening" for Utah Democrats. On the contrary, her pick
seals the deal for McCain in Utah. What a brilliant choice. She and my
soon-to-be Congressman, Jason Chaffetz, are cut from the same cloth and I
couldn't be happier.

My first thought was - who? Then I recalled hearing about Gov. Palin during some
of the ANWR debates. She may not have a long resume, but what she has on there
looks great to me. I'm all about reform, and especially admire those who
are brave enough to tackle their own party's problems.
It was interesting listening to media (including KSL Nightside) attack her for her experience and education. Not a lawyer, not Ivy League, working mother...sounds great to me. Those Ivy League lawyers that run the country now have done such a bang up job all these years, right guys? Guys? Anyone???

Is Wayne Holland the biggest nimrod in Utah? The man's comments should be
compiled into a book of the dumbest Utahn. He is so blinded by his own
self-absorption that he should jsut be shipped off to D.C. to join the rest of
the fools.

I don't know Wayne Holland, but the last week he has make some of the
dumbest comments I have heard this year, with the exception of Bennion Spencer
and Butters.
The more I read about Sarah Palin, the better I like her for VP. I was very impressed with her remarks yesterday.

The Republican Part is dead!!! George Bush has not only destroyed our country
he has ruined the GOP. I hope that the GOP also dies in Utah. We have the
worst run State Legislature in the United States. All of our Politicians are
bought and paid for with Special Interest groups. Greg Curtis currently has
over 500,000 thousand dollars in his campaign fund. Almost all of this money
has come from Special Interest groups and not little people. He is so tied to
the money that he can't represent the people of South Valley. He needs to
get the boot this November. Vote Seegmiller and save Utah.

I am sorry you don't like the way Utah is run, it is not perfect, but it is still listed for the 2008 best run state in the US, and has been for years. I guess there are others that aren't very good.
I am planning on voting for McCain/Palin. They might not be perfect, but they are better than Obama/Biden.
I don't know anything about Seemiller.

The selection is very simple. Obama has 99% of the black vote and perhaps a
majority mexican vote. So picking a minority of any kind would have been futile.
Also, running two white guys on the ticket would have been a surefire loser.
Therefore, picking a women with some smarts (don't forget she is from
idaho, my home state) was a very keen move, particularly where Hillary is
shunted aside. My money is on McCain, who don't forget, should have been
president these past 8 years and now deserves that chance in spite of his age.

I'm having trouble understanding the positive feedback on the Palin pick
for VP. There is no way that lady can run the United States of America, but the
real issue is McCain. I think he wanted Liberman and when the staunchers in his
party told him, "No way!" he did his usual rebellion trick and went
with someone so conservative, so fundamentalist
and so unfit to run this country, which he has to know or he's totally senile, as an act of
deviance. McCain has never been a republican. I don't think he even knows what he is. I do know that he likes younger pretty women, obviously who have been either models or beauty queen contestants, and is willing to change if something better comes along. It's a known fact that he treats Cindy like a second class citizen which always tells the world what he thinks of women.
Palin has my sympathy. She's being used and is going to be humiliated. There is no honor in John McCain. He views the soldiers killed in combat as commodities, and uses his military experience as a badge of wisdom. His prison time has caught up with him.

Very very smart selection. McCain dares to do things
that all other "so called Leaders" do not.To say Palin has "no experiences" .You're kidding yourselves. This is A woman who have so much interpersonal experiences with all
kinds of people as a good wife,an excellent sacrificing mother,a religious devotee,a constitutionist,a cooperative PTA member,a successful mayor (taking good care with even only
7,000 citizens is still admiring),an aggressive governor - acting with her people's interests in mind(state aurpluses): Palin really has a lot of expiences,especially interpersonal and executive/administrative:an important qualifications to be a successful Vice President or
a President;yes, she needs to expose and educate herself more about foreign/military affairs.with only a few years she has been so successful in all
areas as mentioned above,it does not take her very long to know well about the foreign/military issues.
How you could say Obama has more experiences in any

wow. John McCain officially just conceded with the Palin nomination. if he
thinks women are going to vote for her simply because of her gender, he's
not giving us much credit. I'm sorry, but this mother of five should be
taking care of her children -- not trying to pretend she's prepared to run
this country.

I just moved here from Alaska and I will tell you Sarah Palin is an outstanding
person. I loved that she sold the former Governors private jet on EBAY when she
took office. She is all about family, education and common sense. What she may
lack in "papers" and letters behing her name, she makes up with
integrity, guts and a real "do it right or don't do it" attitude.
Small town or not, she has my vote as one of the most impressive political
leaders---an 80-90% rating from her constituents--keep an eye on her and
you'll see that McCain made a brilliant move here

I was very surprised at Senator McCain's choice of Sarah Palin for his Vice
President. My initial reaction was, "Well, that just sunk his
chances!" I have now read a little bit about her and listened to her and
have heard from others who actually DO know her, and I'm thinking this is a
REALLY GREAT choice. It has clinched my vote for the McCain ticket.
To say she is incapable of being successful in the job is unfounded BS. She is fully experienced and poised and educated and informed to fulfill the duties of Vice President. John McCain is not dead! (I'm now ready for the cynical puns). But, should he die in office, can Palin do the job? I question, if ANYONE, even those we vote in, could be fully prepared to step into that position on day one. I believe she could do a better job than most if fate placed her there. She has already shown herself to be strong and decisive and willing to do what's right.

To Donna Sherman: John McCain's military service DOES give him wisdom!
Here is a clich� you can stuff somewhere: "For those
who fight for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know." You
clearly are quite ignorant of the military experience and the impression it
indelibly embeds in the heart and mind of the veteran.
Oh, by the way, I think anybody, (particularly a woman), who is worth over 100-million bucks, pretty much dictates how they'll be treated, even by their spouse.

I was delighted to hear that McCain choose Palin as his running mate. She is
courageous and has integrity. This is so foreign to so many in our government
today. She's not afraid to do what is right in the face of opposition. I
believe that his choice clinches his win in November. God bless America and God
bless McCain and Palin!

Palin was one of the worst choices McCain could have made. Does the GOP really
think that women will run out and vote for her just because she's female?

Its amazing. For the longest McCain complained about Obama's lack of
experience, this was McCain's entire campaign. Now he goes ahead and taps
an ex-Mayor/Governor as VP. Republicans actually believe that this gives her
executive experience. What executive experience, this is a ploy. Give it a
break. You cannot have your cake and eat it too McCain. People are not as
stupid as you think

I cant say much except that i will go along with McCains choice and hope that
she will do all she can to help him when he is office....There is a lot to be
done he may be the one to do it...I find her very interesting with a lot of GO
in her.

I am a lifetime Republican age 66 now. Having a hard time deciding who to vote
for. I was almost going for Obama having been an R.N. for Universal Health
Care, time Republicans show we care? How do we spend billions on wars and not
take care of sick people? Then Obama picks Biden for VP, cannot tolerate this
man. Senator McCain a nice man, but spent over 30 years in Congress possibly
part of the problem we are having there now. Hoped he would pick Romney as VP,
but Gov. Palin is there now a nice lady, great speech, but also like Obama not
much experience. Now I wait to see will I vote at all?

I am a republican, but I could not bring myself to be enthused by McCain. I
truly believe the democrats chose him for us. And then, he went and picked
Palin. I must be honest. When I first heard that he had picked an unknown woman
governor, I despaired completely. I was hoping for Mitt Romney. But then, as the
hours passed and I started to learn more about Sarah Palin, I changed my mind
completely. I now believe that Obama and Co. do not have a prayer. Republicans
are united, if I have been galvanized the way I have, I can imagine what is
happening around this great country. She is a true western woman. The pioneer
spirit is alive and well in her. Good choice John McCain. And to all those above
with disparaging comments, I pity you.
