The rotating ad immediately under the sentence "....leg amputated." was for a Manwill Power Chainsaw. I couldn't believe my eyes and questioned the decision to pair this story with that ad. Since the ad apparently rotates with others, I wonder how many others will see he irony as they read the story and wonder about what tools the surgeons would really use.

All in all....get well soon Mr. Attorney General Shurleff.

My wife, Andrea, and I would like to wish Mr. Shurtliff a speedy recovery. My wife worked with his father at Midvale Middle School and at South Jordan Middle School.

How sad, I'm sorry for him, and I wish him and his family the best. Trials in our life can make us stronger and better people, or they can break us. I have a feeling that Shurtlef is made of the stuff of the pioneers, that is, he will become stronger for this trial.

Good luck, Mr. Shurtleff!

You are facing a long, grueling recovery. Especially considering the only alternative, if this procedure fails, appears to be amputation. But, judging from your remarkable fortitude thus far, you appear to have more than enough gumption to overcome this obstacle regardless of it ultimate conclusion.

I shattered my leg 3 years ago and I still have trouble walking. I am in constant pain and have limited use of the leg. It is so scarred that people stare. Most days I wished they would have amputated it. I feel for Mr. Shurtleff but amputation is not all bad.

We are wishing him well. Maybe he should try alternative medicine. Sometimes miracles happen.

Our prayers are with you Mr. Shurleff. We hope you recover easily and quickly this time and take it easy. It will be worth it in the long run.

Motorcycles are death machines ,in todays world, stay off and away from bikes, if you value your life. Please don't start with we need a helmet law.The hospitals refer to motorcycles as donor machines.

Bone graphs are painful. Try having both legs at the same time. But it beats death from infection.

Cars are death machines too. But we all keep getting in them.
Shurtleff was an inexperienced rider and took a ride on an unfamiliar bike before getting the proper training for it. A direct quote from Channel 4 news: "I wasn't quite ready for a big bike."
I've been riding for 25 years and I believe the overwhelming majority of bad injuries on motorcycles come from inexperience or just plain stupidity or a mixture of both.
The same can be said about all the terrible car accidents out there.
God bless Mr. Shurtleff, for all his service to this State and best wishes for a full recovery.
