Well leave to the Rep. to have the faith in women. She will be a great leader in an arena of politics as usual in the big city. As for Obama- he loves to hear and see himself, he will never see it coming.
Alaska National Guard | 6:01 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I love the way Team McCain slipped the Alaska National Guard into Palin's resume. What exactly has Palin done with the Alaska National Guard? Nothing, that's what. Being commander-in-chief of the Alaska National Guard doesn't give Palin military expertise any more than being the Prince of Wales makes Prince Charles Welsh.

Don't get me wrong; I think Sarah Palin is a fantastic person with immense leadership potential. But let's be fair about her experience. Her only major accomplishment as governor has been to negotiate a contract to build a natural gas pipeline, and the company she favored for the job is Canadian.

Let's see who is right. Personally, I think it is the best choice McCain could have made. Too much put on Harvard and east coast schools. What do they know about the rest of America? The teachings of these schools have us in a mess. We have been governed by their product for way too long. Go Sarah.

I think Sarah is a wonderful choice. I'm excited.
Reese | 7:40 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Is it me or does anyone not realize that she hasn't been able to stick with things? A sports report for 2 different stations? Her own business for what, 3-4 years? Chair of the Oil Commission for 1 year. Is there anything she can get right? She couldn't even run a snowmobile, watercraft, ATV business right? Mayor? The mayor of my city was also our history teacher! Basically a joke!
I think this will lose Mccain the election. He probably should've picked someone that more woman can relate too. I can't relate to someone that kills animals and supports NRA. I'm not about having guns anywhere near my children and she has 5!

SHE IS VERY CEREBRAL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. SHE IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR VP. I WISH HER THE BEST AND FOR THE REPUBLICAN AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.
jav | 8:15 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008

I almost wish he had picked Romney. She has too little experience and she is NOT Hillary and John will not get hillary's voters to vote for him. Do we really want her to run the country if anything hapens to Mc Cain??? Sorry, but I am reconsidering my vote!
llw | 8:24 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I see her selection as an afront to the office of Vice President of the United States. I am a female Hillary supporter but I certainly am not woo'd by Palin's nomination! A batchelors degree in journalism, a runner up in a state beauty pagent and the former mayor of a city with 6700 people!!! You've got to be kidding me! This is who we want running our country in the event McCains health fails? OMG! I may not like Sen. Obama, but I feel a lot safer with him and Biden than a pandering old fart and Gidget!
Roger Johnson | 8:32 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Sarah is so smoking georgeous that John can hardly keep his eyes off her. She actually appears to have quickened his step and makes him look a year or two younger. I think he can dis his quecards when he appears with her. We now have a real beauty contest for President. Its just another low in American politics. McCain strikes me as paniced and real old and his VP as a limited and dangerous pick.

We are so excited for Sarah.... it's about time we had someone with values... and that sticks up for them-- isn't afraid what others think! We love her in Alaska and wish her the best!
Steve N. | 9:30 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
I think it was a good choice selecting her. Thanks to idiots like Hucklebee who used the "religion" card against Romney, we have to seek a different stategy to win. Choosing a young woman should bring in more support from women voters and democratic voters who are sceptical of Omama. As long as bigot voters in the South use religion as an excuse to exclude qualified candidates for Office, we will have to settle for second best. Actually, you have to feel sorry for those folks in the South, with all their prejudices. I suppose they'll just never get it. Oh, well.
The4400rules | 9:31 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Wonderful choice John McCain!!!

Sarah Palin has more hands on, legislative experience than Barack Obama, but the liberal media doesn't want you to know that.

It's amazing how so many people don't do any research on their own, they just take what the media gives them. If you do some research, you'll see that she's got great potential and good experience.

They just hammered down my vote, although Obama had basically lost it when he chose Biden, the ultimate politician as a running mate. Change? Just his mind and opinion, daily, depending on who he wants to please. Biden as President is scarier than Obama.
wow | 10:44 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
The soccer mom with a sports journalism degree could be president next year. McCain could have randomly picked anyone off the street and the party faithful fall in line.
Resume disappointing | 10:50 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
My wife also has raised 4 children and has run organizations. Maybe should should be VP. Palin is a great lady but in no way qualified to be VP or Pres. I have never voted for a Democrat in 26 years, but don't like the choice of Palin. Give her 4 more years in office and maybe. Obama is also lacking experience and often just does not show up to vote.

Imagine that McCain dies and she goes up against Putin in negotiation. We fought 50 years of Cold War because Truman and Attlee (UK) couldn't handle Joe Stalin in Potsdam.

We would never promote people to top CEO positions or even college FB coaches with this kind of scant experience. Think about it, people!!!
Brother Doe is VP Doe | 12:16 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
wow,

"The soccer mom with a sports journalism degree could be president next year. McCain could have randomly picked anyone off the street and the party faithful fall in line."

Come on now!

Didn't you know that going to college, and serving on a City Council, as Mayor and as a Governor for 2 years qualifies you to be Vice President? For all of you who have dreamed of being Vice President or the President here is how you do it:

1) run for City Council in 2009,
2) run for Mayor in 2013,
3) unsuccessfully run for Lt. Governor in 2019,
4) serve on any state commission from 2019 to 2020,
5) run for Governor in 2020,
6) serve as Governor from 2021 to 2022,
7) be chosen as VP in 2024.

For all of you young people. Here is your plan: Run for City Council at 20, become Mayor at 24, become Governor at 30, serve 2 terms and be picked at 38.

Or here is a short-cut. Run for Governor now, win office and then run for President in 4 to 8 years.

I wish you all luck. If you become President come visit the ward.
JobHound | 12:31 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
I watch a lot of government and other employment websites but didn't see this job open. They mustn't have advertised very hard. It would be a great gig, more than I make now, health care and airline travel with free beer. Plus, as I recall, you get to shoot one guy if you get elected. Not mortally, mind you. Anyway, next time one of these sweet gigs comes up I hope I see the ad. I should be able to at least get the interview.
Obama ready for Day 1 | 12:42 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
Barb,

Obama ready for Day 1 of the TRANSITION...

"We can't say that about Obama. She is the right person at the right time. McCain will benefit from a women's perspective. She is an excellent choice."

Actually we can. Between November 5, and January 20, 2009 Obama will be given presidential briefings just like President Bush, and be involved in a transition the size you will be shocked at.

For the next 66 days he will be in the thick of it. He and his staff and advisers (numbering in the hundreds at present) will select Cabinet members, Deputy and Assistant Secretaries and fill many important positions within a very short period of time.

They don't show up on day 1 of the administration and take over the White House and Executive Branch without any prior transition.

In fact, the government pays for this transition including offices, personnel and infrastructure. This transition isn't a walk in the park and the President-elect must be prepared for it. Obama has the structure in place to do so but McCain doesn't.

Your ignorance of how quickly a President-elect is provided with the necessary information he needs to make informed decisions is shocking.
BeAnne | 1:13 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
It scares me to death to think an inexperienced person will be just a heartbeat away from the presidency. Sarah Palin has a poor resume and the fact she has 5 children has nothing to do with what kind of vice president she will make, if elected. What kind of parent with that many children takes a job that will rob those children of a full time mother?
Tim Thil | 8:03 a.m. Aug. 31, 2008
I like McCain but I am VERY uneasy with putting him (a 74 year old man) in the White House with a person who has no more experience than two terms city council, two terms mayor, and two years Governor. I have to think; how would she react when faced with a Cuban Missle Crisis like situation??? This scares me a lot. I will do more research on her but right now... McCain just lost my vote.
logic | 2:01 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
I am researching and putting together Gov Palin's resume. It is very alarming that this person has been made the VP candidate - Her real world work experience consists of a sports writer position in Alaska and the business (snow mobile etc) her husband and she owned for three years. Mayor of a small town - this is hardly a challenging position. And what are the typical issues for an Alaskan governor? Her "executive" experience is small potatoes at best. This is a country of 300 million people with enormous complex problems and vast diversity. Do you not care what happens to your children??
No rational person can accept this nomination.
Crist Lopez | 2:59 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
More power to you Ms. Vice President, I know that you can do it. When Isaw here anouncing her candidacy, I was so impressed about the short speech. Keep on God is with you and your family.
Sunny | 3:10 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
Most of this Palin gushing has got to be from paid staffers for the McCain campaign. I just can't believe that Americans can be this STUPID!!!

I chalked off th Bush Supreme Court selection and the 2004 Bush election to election fraud ...

But maybe we just have a brainwashed Fox News/Limbaugh/Hannity dumbed down America who actually believes that Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska is so close to Russia!! (Per Fox News AND Cindy McCain!!)

Get off the Koolaid and THINK for once .. if you all haven't totally lost your minds and are incapable of thinking that is ....
common sense | 5:03 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
Having a law degree has to take a lot more brains than a degree in journalism, also you can see what a loving marriage the Obamas have, McCain cheated on his first wife that shows that he has few morals!
A.Campos | 5:09 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
I was overjoyed in Ms. Palin's selection to run for VP. I have been a life-long demo but no more. McCain has my vote. I think dems and most newspersons are out of touch with american women.
maynard wisconsin | 7:50 p.m. Aug. 31, 2008
everybody can say what they want. Gov. Palin has her head on straight and is not afraid to stand up to other politicians from either party.

GOV Palin is level headed and a down to earth gal.
She is just what the political arena needs. Its time to change politics as we know it and start a new generation of politicians.

Obama seems to be afraid of her. Time will tell I can't wait for the debates to start. She will eat them alive. GO SARAHA
The Most Qualified Candiate | 7:46 a.m. Sept. 1, 2008
John McCain said he would choose as his Vice Presidential candidate the most qualified person to take over for him.

John McCain believes that out of all the potential candidates available that Sara Palin is the most qualified candidate. I accept him at his word that this is not a political/tactical maneuver. His judgment is on full display with this pick.

To sum up: John McCain believes she is THE MOST QUALIFIED PERSON to be Vice President.
Anonymous | 10:22 a.m. Sept. 1, 2008
I've got a better resume than she does. I'm hurt they didn't ask me to be on the ticket.
alalkalo | 11:03 a.m. Sept. 1, 2008
This is clearly a matter of tokenism. Would McCain have picked a male politician with this little experience? Is she even the governor of Alaska because she was highly qualified or was she just in the right place at the right time? And being mayor of a town of 5000 does not qualify as executive experience. Maybe it would qualifty her to be a store manager at Walmart.
Henry | 1:15 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
I can't be more happier then with McCain's pick for
running mate. She truly has the Republican, conservative values. She also has much more executive experiance, vrs. Obama's voting "present" instead of nay or yay. As for experiance remember the past two Presidents were Govonors not Senators. When was the last time you saw a politician go after corupt officials while still in office? Or refuse federal funding for a useless bridge? Refuse a fancy cook to reduce spending for tax payers? Sahra has proven to treat goverment funds the way every citizen should. She has a proven record of real change. She does not use it as a political statement she lives it. Sahara has proven to actually live by the words "Do not ask what your
country can do for you but what you can do for your country!" Her core values are the same ones that made this country great! As for forign policey look what's happened with our current one. We need fresh ideas. For the first time in a long time I can say I am proud to be a Republican!
Kathy | 8:18 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
I couldn't be more delighted with McCain's pick. I am speechless I am so happy!
no way | 8:20 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
not a good choice
SlowS | 9:21 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Experience? The town she was mayor of had some 55 employees, Obama's campaign employes 2500. Her budget, about 12-million dollars a year as mayor. Obama's campaign budget?, several times that a MONTH. Let's not get carried away about her being mayor of a small town as being executive experience.
merriwether | 9:43 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
What was her GPA at the state school? intellectual acumen? Credentials are largely, tv sportscaster, beauty contestant, mayor of minute vilage, 18mos as governor.

The world outside of AK is very different than that to which Ms. Palin is accustomed. What works in AK may not be the case in Washington.

well said!

In management, hiring 101, the first thing you look for is success in an endeavor that lasts more than a year or two...lots of jumping around, you might ask one step ahead of the turn...

Is that the best GOP can do for us?
Valerie | 10:35 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
She have more experience then obama, , joe biden , i am a Hillary supporter and she have my vote.
go-girl | 10:43 p.m. Sept. 1, 2008
Excellent choice. I am a Hillary supporter. I think
Sarah is even better than Hillary. Hillary has no guts to stand up and fight for herself when Obama pushing her around. Go Sarah... we need people like you in Washington. Break the stutus-Quo and get the job done.
bubbadoc | 6:56 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Dangerous choice. If the Republicans win..McCain will probably just lock her in a closet somewhere so she won't interfere. Bring on the VP debates.
God help us in this next election.
Jean | 8:08 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
To Go Girl and Valerie and all the other people that will vote for McCain because of Palin.

This woman just sold her daughter out for her own gain. How can you say that you would vote for her. Please do not call yourself a Hillary supporter because Hillary has even gotten mad at her and doesn't believe her right for the job.

To think that you would put a person in there that is enough Bush is WRONG!!!!!!. Don't vote for her just because she's a woman that my friend it foolish use what brain you have and don't vote for them vote for Obama because he really cares for this country. All Palin can think about is Alaska well I'm sorry there is 49 other states and she is foolish enough not to mention them it's just what can we do for Alaske. She is hiding behind a mask of lies and decete and if you are willing to believe her was does that say about your judgement [not much]. So please if you want this country to go in the right direction you want Obama/Biden in office. Jean
Independant | 8:26 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I totally agree with Jean, this country needs to go in a different direction & McCain is a Bush clone or even worse, we were in alot better shape with Bill Clinton.
Susan | 10:32 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
A gun-totin', mooseburger eating, mayor of a remote town population 8,000..former beauty pageant contestant, pregnant daughter...this sounds like a reality show not a serious choice for thoughtful Americans. If she's qualified to be VP, than so am I and thousands of others. With Mitt Romney and others to choose from, it is obvious McCain has shown poor judgement in this very important decision...and now he's tap dancing to cover his butt. This man is showing signs of senility.....
Steve - Oil & Polar Bears | 4:11 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Oil and polar bears.

Those are the two issues on Palin's resume that have me disliking her the most.

1. She's part of the drill, drill, drill... dril now, drill more crowd for oil. And here's the kicker: she supports drilling in Alaska ON the National Arctic Wildlife Preserve (or whatever it's called). She and her crowd fail to tell you that any brand new oil rigs being built aren't going to give us gas to use for several years. So how does that help us here and now like most want? And how about instead of building rigs on new land or off the shore of California we make the big oil companies build drills on the un-used land they already own???

2. She, like Pres. Bush, supports taking polar bears off the endangered species list even though they shouldn't be removed.

What is so "Maverick" about this woman?? She sounds like your standard Bush Republican to me. How does she bring any change to Washington? With her and McCain we get 4 more of the last 8 years... don't be fooled into believing otherwise.
Don R. House | 8:08 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Attractive, perceptive, a good leader for Alaska but not yet of the nation. Let her take care of her family a while longer and then give it another try.
Anonymous | 10:27 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
In this stage and age, it is hard to imagine that a person chosen to help lead this great country has seen so little of the world. Is being content with who we are and what we are enough to claim us leader of the world?? No wonder the rest of the world is distancing from us. I don't know her enough to dislike her. But I sure have doubt in her. Is she the best we have already??
VENUS J. | 1:35 a.m. Sept. 3, 2008
Enter I will never trust John McCain at all! He's the spitting image of George W. Bush, his sidekick. John McCain/Palin will not solve this country's problems. This team is just good on promises but once they are in office, their promises will remain- as promises.

Gov. Sarah Palin may be a good person but she's in the wrong company.

Let's vote for the Obama/Biden team! This team shows substance, sincerity, and good judgment.
Bukanin | 2:37 a.m. Sept. 3, 2008
This is all a bit surreal...one google search, one VP...
Can you imagine Palin negotiating with leaders like Putin and Amedinejad??? This is not a joke, the choices made by the US have worldwide repercussion's. There is no easy segue from snowmobile sales to inter-ballistic missile decommissioning... I haven't heard of republican business owners now saying that they believe resumes and experience are no longer needed to run/manage their OWN business'...
Palin has never had a passport...and yet she's now capable of handling the US's international interests???
I think I'll revisit Plato- he might have been right...
no name | 7:27 a.m. Sept. 3, 2008
just seems like the higher ups have put her in a position where she seems out of place this stage in her career
Steve - McCain running away | 12:14 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I just read McCain canceled his appearance on "Larry King Live" this week "out of retaliation". Apparently he's angry about how a certain CNN anchor handled one of his people on Monday night (I happened to see this).

The anchor woman strongly pressed the McCain rep for examples of Gov. Palin's experience, repeatedly trying to get him to cite just one example of how she lead/used the National Guard in Alaska. The McCain rep danced around the question and never answered it each time she asked it, when he finally did give an answer the CNN anchor pointed out that it was the job of the Pentagon and not within the/a governor's authority.

McCain is saying he didn't like the heated exchange between those two and he's rebeling by canceling his appearance on "Larry King".

What McCain is really doing is running away from possible tough cross examination. To me he's clearly trying to avoid the issue, he doesn't want to have his choice of a VP closely scrutinized. It's all part of him trying to gloss over the fact she has little true experience, the very thing he's been preaching about Obama as a "negative" point.
Miss Bee | 12:21 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
What in the world is going on here?? I looked at this woman's resume. How are we suppose to know who this woman really is when even McCain doesn't really know her! If she, (God forbid) became president of this Country, she going to have to forget about her family and study night & day on foreign affairs in a big fat hurry. I don't know about you, but that's some scary stuff people!! I fault McCain for this dumb stupid decision! Whew, what a big mess!!
Steve - Re: Miss Bee | 1:28 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
I'm thankfull for McCain's mistaken choice and this big mess, it could very well be the thing that costs him the election and ensures the Obama victory I want.

I might be Republican, but I don't want McCain and definately not Palin in the White House.
prm | 1:56 p.m. Sept. 3, 2008
You go get them gal! And don't listen to anyone, this world is CRAZY at best...And you have alot of prayer on your side...which empty suit does NOT!

I LOVE IT! You have driven the Democrats NUTTER!!!
