McCain chooses Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as running mate

The fact is, the more I read about her record, the more sense this nod is for a running mate for McCain.
I see that Gov. Palin has a good record. I especially like the Down Syndrome Child Issue."
And that is such an important issue in our world today, with all we are facing with the economy, big oil, the Middle East, record debts and a crumbling infrastructure.
Experience? Please. I am from alaska. she's been a year (not term...YEAR) governor from a state that has a smaller population than a mid-sized city.
Palin is in for a rude awakening. Alaska is nothing like the national scene.
Mrs. Palin's views and values are closer to mine than are any other candidates'. It's Obama's agenda rather than his inexperience that truly scares me. He is the most liberal, left-wing Senator and has surrounded himself with people who do not love this country and what it stands for. He and his wife have shown their disdain for America by choosing to attend a church that was clearly a black militant church for 20 years and yet didn't notice it? His wife was not proud of our country and felt discriminated against? Yet she has had many opportunities to go to college and become a very successful lawyer.
And lastly, Obama's stand on abortion (especially partial-birth abortion and voting not to save the lives of babies born alive during an abortion) make him totally reprehensible to me.
This is as surprising as Hillary not being Obama's choice, which means it was no surprise whatsoever.
Isn't this America where anyone has the opportunity to do anything?
Why Utah is so blindly following someone (Mitt) so obviously part of the status quo. Reagan once said, "Status Quo is Latin for the mess we're in."
lets see, she was involved in fishing with her husband who owned a fishing boat. She once broke her fingers doing that. She was a sports journalist in Ancorage. She was on the Wassila City Council, Wassila Mayor, head of the Alaska Oil and Natural Gas Commission and now has served for nearly a year as governor.
Her husband Todd is at least partly of Yupik Eskimo descent. He is an operator for BP, involed in seperating oil and natural gas. He has worked on Alaska's North slope since 1989 (except when fishing in the summer, and he did take a leave just after Sarah got elected).
I guess this means Mrs. Palin has "oil industry connections". However this is "we want to drill more in Alaska" connetions. In fact, even that would not really help her, since as long as they drill her husband can have a job, so this is not about investment grade connections to the industry.
It is hard to imagine someone from a background more different than McCain.
At the same time Palin is a strong Christian, without the anti-Mormon baggage of Huckabee.
Er, sure you are. LOL.
Kenneth in Texas, exactly what Chief Executive experience does Palin have??? Mayor of Wasilla. 6,700 people.
Governor of AK. 650,000 people.
Swept in office on an anti-corruption, political insider wave with NO experience.
There couldn't be a worse choice for McCain.
First rule in running for president: make sure to cement your lead in a meaningless state that is already leaning GOP.
How is McCain going to figure out the complexities of the Middle East is he doesn't understand his own country?
Wonder what significance this has? I mean, Mitt's got the pedigree, the resume, the brains, the showcase family *and* the good looks. Gotta make you scratch your head and wonder if the Republicans think Romney and his LDS affiliation is a boon or a bane.
Maybe it's time for LDS members to wake up and smell the coffee (er, coke?) and take a look at the Democratic party.
Lower Gas Prices
Pull Out of Iraq
National Debt
If Obama wins, I hope he grows a spine. If McCain wins, I hope he grows a heart.
Go GOP!
Palin has more experience actually running government than anyone else in the race. Who else in this race has been the governor of anything? Who else has even been the mayor of anywhere?
She has been a governor and a mayor. If someone who spent their career running a major investment firm like Romney comes along you say "he is untrusted because he is rich".
If someone who has helped her husband run his fishing boat comes along you say "she is untrusted because she has done meanial jobs, and has no 'real' experience."
You then mock her for having been in a beuty contest. This is pure sexism. You do not relentlessly mock men for having played football, although it takes less mental ability.
He chose a woman as his running mate.
And not only that, SHE had MORE experience than Nobama does!!!
Go McCain!
NO MITT IN FERDERAL GOVERNMENT!!!
Utah LDS it will NEVER happen!!!!!!!!!!!
The stategic error the dems made was having their convention first. The party is over.
Ok...let's face it. The R's know that McCain's only good for 4 years at best. She'll never be a viable candidate for Pres, so I guess this was throwing a bone at Romney, who'll want to run in 4 years.
She would be excellent! I hope McCain picks her. There is probably too much controversy around choosing Mitt, when those two don't really get along. Mitt should be President, but working with McCain as VP? I just don't see it.
I predict the country will continue shouting ignorantly for change and blindly vote Obama in, despite the poor changes that he would bring. A couple years later and we will then shout for improvement, instead of just change. Romney will be President in 4 years.
Still, Palin could end up being the best choice we have on any current ticket, giving me reason for hope in the present. She didn't have any experience before making drastic improvements in Alaskan politics, either. But she now has the proven record to do what unexperienced Obama can only promise to do--change old and corrupt policies.
Obama is unrealistic. We will still be at war, tax breaks to bad workers will only further a bad economy, and we will still pay terrorists for oil as other energies are still far off.
Palin knows best on how to maintain but use our best energy resource--Alaska--in the meantime.
The country has some serious problems and we need highly skilled leaders. The McCain/Palin ticket does NOT seem to have the required skills.

2. McCain's argument about "readiness for the Presidency" is DOA.
3. Palin got elected exposing Republican corruption in Alaska. Won't this just bring it up on a national level: DeLay, Hastert, etc?
