Great article. Good to hear such quality from our team. I agree that these
types of successes are much more important than Saturday's success. This
change in mindset/focus from Coach Mendenhall is what makes me glad he's
our coach, not his success on the field (although winning sure is nice too). Win
or lose, Bronco's making the BYU team what is should be.

Mike Reed is awesome and I'm glad he's on our team. He's not
just a good receiver but a great person and somebody we can learn from. Go Reed

Michael, we are glad you stayed too, to play but also to contribute to the
unique institution that BYU is today. Thank you for mentoring Chambers and
thank you for coming into Provo with an open mind and heart. I hope you have a
great season and achieve all your goals. BYU fans love their players, but more
importantly, we love watching them grow into fine men of character on and off
the field. You are a good example of what we love about BYU football. Good luck

There is only one receiver in the state of Utah named Reed that anybody should
be talking about right now. That young mans name is David and he plays for the
University of Utah. He is the finest receiving Reed around!

Good luck Reed! RE: the mtn -- I got my first look at a show last night on the
mtn...after watching ESPN Sports Center, the mtn was like a high school TV
production. It was embarrassing to watch. I hope with the additional DTV
subscriber dollars they can upgrade to a professional broadcast and surround
Todd Christensen with quality talent. An HDTV broadcast would be a good start
as well. Good luck with that.

Best Catch Ever!
One of my most favorite BYU catches is the one Reed had vs. Wyoming a couple of years ago. The ball went right between 2 defenders in the end zone and Reed came up with the ball some how. Talk about skill and concentration! I'm glad he's here and I hope he has a successful Senior year!
Does anyone know where I can find info on the buses that pick you up from the malls that pool down to the BYU games?

A kid like Mike Reed would be a great addition to the athletic program after
graduation to help non-LDS athletes transition and manage through their time at
the Y. I think some former athletes have played that role but I think they
converted to the Church while a Coug. Maybe we need someone who held firm to
their own religious beliefs while integrating well into the LDS culture to work
with these non-LDS athletes - most of which like Reed probably won't
convert and may need someone in that same mold as support.

I'm a BYU fan but Todd Christensen is no TV talent. He is absolutely
horrible as an announcer and he's more concerned with trying to prove how
intelligent he is than being a sportscaster. If you want to improve the talent
on the MTN then get rid of Todd.

Congrats Michael for a great career at BYU and for making it through the tough
times. I received a masters degree at BYU, despite being a "minority"
and having a different religious perspective. However, I finished my experience
there knowing the good outweighed the bad. Sure, there were times when I felt
the business school administration had no clue regarding diversity or creativity
(and at times were flat-out ignorant), but BYU is a unique school with unique
standards.
Thanks for hanging tough--only a handful of people will truly understand how difficult your journey has been. Yet, despite your trials, you will find yourself checking up on Utah news and BYU on a regular basis--because the positives far outweigh the negatives.

He opens against a tough Michigan defense, and I doubt he'll set the world on fire in that game. I'm sure he'll be a fine receiver as the season progresses. Michael Reed for the Cougs has already proven himself. He not only has excelled on the field, but has done well off the field. That can be tough for some BYU athletes. Read Yewt stories and keep share your opinions with somebody who cares. Mike has
two MWC titles under his belt, and has been a major contributor.

I'm glad we have Mike Reed on our team. It's great to hear that he
stuck it out through some difficult times and is a leader in our program.
It's young men like him that help raise us several notches higher than
other programs, like the one at the U for example.

University Mall in Orem has buses that go to the game if you eat at their food
court it is free. I'm not sure where you can get info about that besides
at the mall though.

Mike, you are what BYU is all about. Thank you for your fine example off the field, and for your tremendous contributions on it.
My greatest memory (so far) of Reed wasn't of a catch (although I concur that juggled catch during the Wyoming game was sensational), but of a block. I'm sure Steve Tate would rather just forget and have everyone else do so as well when Reed laid him out during the Y vs U game last year. That was a thing of beauty! I wish all the Y's receivers could take a lesson from that and block that way.

Reed did not stick with the zoobies, he was stuck wiht the zoobies. He wanted
to paly with his cousin Johnson with the UTES but he was not good enough to paly
with the Utes.

I had a class with Mike a few years ago. It suprised me how nice he is. He
really is a class act. It's great to have a football player who is good,
but still very humble about it.

I love Mike Reed! Not only is he a dangerous receiver, he is one of the best
blocking wide receivers there is- just ask Steve Tate.

great article on Mike Reed. He is a humble dude who has been a consistent WR his
entire career at BYU. He's made many great catches but the one I'll
remember most was in Forth Worth Texas against the Horned Frogs where Beck hit
him with a perfect throw when Reed was draped in coverage but still managed to
bring it down and keep his balance to get into the end zone to help his team
beat the #16 Horned Frogs. I hope that he catches six TD's this season and
amasses as many as 600 yards. He is an integral part of our offense and has been
for four years. What a stud!

I finally got the MTN on DIRECT TV and in Arkansas it is on 616. The first thing
I saw was the evening sports update and it was not great. I am not complaining,
the BYU game is set on schedule and hopefully the quality will get better. I
would rather see all the games in lower quality than 2 or 3 in HD.

overcomes great obstacles" story, it's generally bad form to try and
use that as an opportunity to talk smack. It makes you look a wee bit

Hello? Does anyone not remember the crackback block on Steve Tate last year in
front of 66,000 Cougar faithful? Holy Cow!!! It was about the 3rd play of the
game. Quick pass to the outside with Mike in the slot. He comes right at Tate
and de-cleats him like nothing I have ever seen. Tate gets up slowly and makes
for the sideline. The camera shows him trying to scrape the cobwebs out of his
belfry. I'll bet I've watched that a thousand times. Thanks Mike for
all you have done for BYU! Good luck this year!!

Watching BYU the last few seasons since I moved here, it wasn't really hard
to see that he is by far the most talented receiver they have, now I know why he
doesn't get the ball more, he's not a mormon. Sad but True, he has
better hands, he's faster, and he's more fearless than any other
receiver they have. He should have transfered.

And apparently you are too good to learn how to spell. I would give you a pass
on spelling with and play wrong, but the fact you spelled play as
"p-a-l-y" both times you used it . . . That just shows me you

I think your right. Same reason Jim McMahon was not allowed to throw as much as
his fellow LDS QBs, and Ty wasn't until he converted, or Diluigi will get
fewer touches when Unga leaves. Our non-LDS DBs will rotate off the field
quickly in favor of the LDS players. It is probably the reason why Mendenhall
won't let non-LDS D-Coordinator Hill call any plays. It's all a
conspiracy - keep the non-Mormons out of as many plays as possible. Obviously I
am being sarcastic because your comment was so ridiculous. It is only natural
that LDS kids are going to be the vast majority here but the few non-LDS players
over the years have had a huge impact on Cougar success and in my experience
each one has been embraced and treated like royalty on campus.
