Equalities, Inequalities, and subtexts.

john mccain = george w. bush
"You don't grow the economy by raising taxes and limiting trade." - Mitt Romney = "I won't be able to redistribute money from the poor (into my pocket) as much as I used to"
"It was wrong, offensive. John McCain is a true-blooded hero. [for owning 7 houses]" = stupid statement.
"Four, one less than John Kerry," - Mitt Romney = "Democrats will tax me to death and I can't buy another home. Oh, woe is me, what will I do without shoes?"
"I'm not running for anything now," - Mitt Romney = Thank God!
Dear Anonymous compares Romney to George Washington - Sir, I have met George Washington, and Mitt is no George Washington [or TJ or Ben Franklin]
Obama VS Fidel says"drive this nation into socialism with his liberal friends" = what planet are you living on?
McCain/Romney = 1984.

We, as Americans, need good, successful people to run our county. Not people that profess to know, but
ones that really do. We had better wake up and choose the right individuals to help us get back on
track. This election is critical. Be sure to vote for the right people. It is our future that we should
be concerned about. Not the silly things that too many have an opinion about. Let's get REAL...
David | 6:20 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
What is the relevance to McCain's war experience? Perhaps most of you have forgotten that the President is the head of the military....you know, Commander in Chief. Do you really want someone to head that military than only has experience fighting through Lara Croft? I certainly do not.

wow what a history lesson. I would have never put the two together. but you are right.
David | 6:37 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
No matter how many times you tell yourself that McCain equals Bush, it simply is not any more true than if you stated that 3 equals 1, or orange is a telephone. You are simply conforming to the party standards.

You are also silly for believing that the number of homes/properties one owns is relevant. Do you consider a 3% partnership in a property full ownership? Do you consider 10% full ownership? If the bank still holds some portion, do you consider that ownership? Would you count homes that his wife owned separately? The number of homes owned is about as silly as demanding knowing how many socks he had in his drawers telling you nothing of substance. Is McCain wealthy? Yes, especially through his wife. So what. The money seems to be growing so he obviously is doing something right. Did Obama's siblings receive the same educational advantages as he? Heck, did you receive the same educational advantage? Were you a boarding school graduate like Obama?
More Hate | 6:46 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Mitt went huntin' for varmits and shot both barrels at Obama. When can we focus on issues rather than personal attacks?

McCain was a maverick until he sold out to get the nomination. Now with McCain it is more tax breaks for the wealthy, more war and more Karl Rove politics of hate.

I am ready for a change.
Bev B | 6:53 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
It is amazing to me that there are so many mean comments about Mitt Romney--this country needs his gifts and talents to save this country. I am crossing my fingers for Romney as VP
TexanInfidel | 7:01 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Romney/McCain 2008! Oh, er, I mean McCain/Romney or something or another...
B Tomlinson | 7:04 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I would feel much safer having a proven, loyal, successful person running for President and Vice President, than someone who uses the government programs to get by on. I would love to own homes in the towns where my children live so that I could visit, but still be on my own. I admire someone that has been successful in running their own lives.
Anonymous | 7:19 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Fortunately, Mittney isn't a good shot, even metaphorically. So, Obama lives on, and I get to vote for him.

re: Bev B | 6:53 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008

And what would those be? The ability to flip flop like every other politician?

Let's not forget the gift to make bureaucracy bigger (Massacusetts health care) and the talent of turning a blind eye to Gov't inefiiciency/pork barrel spending i.e Boston's big dig.

Have you not gotten your fill?
Why do you think Utah is such a POOR STATE?
Frugal People in Power
Cheap Skates that are Rich.
The Rich will do nothing for the People
When will Utahn's learn?

I hope McCain picks Romney as a VP, will make it easy for Obama/Biden to win. If he picks someone like Liberman, I might have to reconsider. Of course either choice might eliminate the religious right, which would likely lose him the election. No worries though Utah, McCain could pick Kim Jong Il stick an "R" next to his name on the ticket and still win here.
Dear Anonymous | 9:20 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I am still trying to find out whether Barack Obama's name is just that or is really Barry Soetero. I am also waiting to see a real birth certificate from Hawaii which doesn't have the registration number blacked out.

The only change you will see if the nation goes wacko and elects Barack is your income taxes going up significantly and more people feeling they are entitled to government handouts.

You need to study what he promises and the causes of the failure of nations in history. They go hand in hand.
who? | 9:20 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Romney?
Romney who?
Oh, you mean the richie-rich flip-flopper guy who told KSL:
"God has spoken to man since Moses?"
Isn't this opposite of what other Mormons believe?
Good, strict Mormon boy - isn't he?
Nonnie | 10:03 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
It sounds like anonymous is afraid that McCain will pick Romney and there will not be a chance for Obama.
Westernmom | 10:03 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Let me say this, let me say this...
I would rather have a President who isn't sure of how many homes he has invested in and owns over a President that doesn't know how many States there are - or when life begins!
And, I would much rather work for a rich, successful man than one who isn't!
Nonnie | 10:33 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Re: Patrick Gibbs 4:03 p.m.
Have you not ever heard of the word "Forgiveness."

And to the person who asked if a Mormon would vote for a Baptist. I am a Mormon and I would vote for whom I thought was the right person for the Job, regardless of his/her religion. Religion should play no part in politics.
How many will you have? | 11:40 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008

How many homes will you have after a Nobama presidency? Don't you understand that dems are richer on average than repubs?

They all suck their living off the backs of the people. At least with the repubs, they want us to keep a little more of our hard earned money.
Dr. Know | 12:15 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008

Mitt's values | 12:25 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008

Rich men - poor enconomy | 1:25 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Both Romney and McCain are loaded and neither really connects with the middle class. It is hard to see things from the middle class point of view when you are living in luxury and hob-knobing with the rich and famous. Romney can say all he wants about the economy but all I know is the Bush tax cuts haven't helped me one bit and I am solidly middle class. As I understand it, those making more than 150k do benefit from the Bush tax cuts (and McCain supported cuts) but I guess when you make 5 million a year, 150k is considered peanuts. The bottom line here is both Romney and McCain see American as a "nation of whiners".
dancing to a different tune | 1:28 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
A few months ago, McCain was clueless about the economy according to Mitt Romney and now .. just a couple of months later I guess McCain has seen the light and is now some sort of economic genius! What a joke.
To Mitt Haters | 1:36 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
It amazes me that when a smart business person cuts 50 jobs to save 300, all that can be focused on is the 50 lost jobs- not that the company survived to be able to continue employing workers on into the future and many eventually added jobs.

It also amazes me that people hate the successful in the country so much and yet if given the chance, most would love to be successful, too. The class envy card is so old- and yet the Democrats that are rich are never asked to be held to that same standard.

Finally- Romney would be a great foil to the fake Biden- and would out wit him any day of the week in a debate.
JW Morrison | 1:55 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I want Romney in a cabinet position and McCain to select a woman running mate. It would be better all around.
To More Hate | 2:59 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
"You're ready for a change"?

You mean the change that will come when Nobama allows the Bush tax cuts to expire?

You mean how Nobama continues to allow illegals to invade our country?

You mean how Nobama will kill the healthcare industry?
dcc | 5:52 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Mittster, Mittster, Mittster

If you're going to talk like Karl Rove you have to leave the bishop voice at home.
Re: no more Republicans | 7:45 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Who says Utah is a "poor" state? I love it here! I suggest if you want to go live in a "rich state" you move to California and see how "rich" people are living there with the traffic, the crime, the San Fran. values, gun control, etc! If that is what being "rich" is, no thanks! I would rather be "poor'. In fact, when I think about it, I am very rich living here!
Statin the facts? | 8:41 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Romney says "look beyond the glitter and look at the facts" and then goes on to say "Obama isn't ready to be president". Isn't that an opinion too?

How many mormons who voted for him know that he led one of the few states who legalized abortion while he was in office?
Too bad | 9:20 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
McCain will announce Fri that Romney is NOT his VP choice.
Maverick up | 10:02 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
McCain needs to maverick-up. Choose a female minority! Many qualified women are ready and able to help run this country.

I am leaning for Obama, but I would switch to McCain if he was bold enough to give a woman a chance to be VP.

No need to attack- it is my opinion.
Excuse me but . . . . | 10:25 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
McCain is / was not a war hero. He was, unfortunately, and sadly, a prisoner of war or POW.
Many others were POWs during the VietNam war. We respect them and feel empathy for them, but that doesn't necessarily make them heroes!!!!!

The two terms--war hero and POW--are not synonymous.
Brian | 10:47 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Senator Obama speaks the truth when he says he will bring change. By the time he is done taxing us for all of his socialist programs all we will have left will be change...loose change.
AL | 11:08 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I don't think the people of the US deserve Romney as the VP the way they talk about him. How many of you would want your life and character drug through the mud to serve? Read all the hate and using religion to scare people is stupid and igornant. The Constitution allows people freedom of religion. Get used to it!! This reading is the most stupid I have ever read.

You deserve Biden because you are to stupid to know how much Romney could help this country!!!!!!!

Ridgerunner | 1:13 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
"Hate speech" is when anyone criticises a Democrat!
If a Democrat criticises a Republican it is called a "great speech" as in 100% of the Democratic Convention.
Beau | 3:50 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
I love when Republicans constantly proclaim that Barack wants to increase taxes. Anyone knowledgeable would understand that Barack simply wants to put an end to the Bush Tax Cut for the wealthiest individuals in our country. This tax cut is scheduled to end in 2010 regardless, unless Congress re-votes it into affect.

John McCain and Mitt Romney could barely look each other in the eyes during the GOP primaries. They both have a different perspective on policies. Personally I think having Romney as his vice president would be a poor decision. Especially since we understand that all Evangelicals and Christians down south simply hate Mormons. And it annoys me as a LDS member that people in Utah are already saying that just because I am LDS, I should be committed to Mitt Romney.

And is Mitt serious when it comes to flip flopping? Look up Brother Mitt Romney's record and you will see flip flopping time after time again!

It's quite simple. Americans are sick and tired of politicians who spend 90% of their time arguing and 10% actually doing productive work to make America a better country. Whatever the case, we need a change.
Beau | 4:02 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
My brother is a captain for a private leer jet company. He has flown Mitt Romney two different times. My brother lives in Texas and is a hard core Republican. He is also active in the LDS Church. He told me that Mitt Romney was one of the most arrogant and pompous individuals whom he has ever come by. Romney failed to even acknowledge my brother during both travels in which my brother was the captain of the leer jet.

Mitt Romney was born into money. How does the average American relate with Mitt Romney? How many people in Utah would you consider to have real money (wealth)... knowing that we have one of the highest bankruptcy rates in the country if not the highest currently.

What this comes down to for the large proportion of Utahns is Abortion and Gay Rights. That being the case, maybe many of you Romney Lovers should look up his story while he was the governor of Massachusetts. If you do so, you may be shocked to learn that Mitt Romney could better be referred to as TWO Faced Mitt.

The Presidency swings with the results of the economy.
Beau | 4:12 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Geezo if McCain is considering Mitt Romney as his running mate, he might as well consider Sean Hannity as his running mate as well. Then us Americans could live to see more arguing and bickering between greedy politicians and even less productivity to make America a better country.

I'm still mind boggled how the Republican Party came down to three clowns as their main choices for a candidate: John McCain (Democrat in Disguise), Mitt Romney (Sean Hannity Wanna-be / the Great Mormon Hope), and Mike Huckabee (Mormon Hater and Wonderful Example of the True LoViNg Nature of Evangelicals). Then again I wouldn't wanna be the Republican candidate to follow the steps of George W Bush either!

I have concluded one thing about Barack Obama and Utahns. Most will only vote Republican because of Abortion. That is the only reason why some people even find interest in politics, to fight and bicker about abortion. Next, most will vote for Republicans because they firmly believe that Republicans have less favor when it comes to gay rights. And last but not least, the others won't vote for Barack simply because he is black and Utahns are typically racist.
Beau | 4:22 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
And one last note. I have seen many people refer to Barack Obama as the type to increase welfare for the needy. How many Utahns have been bailed out by the government with bankruptcies? Maybe we should look up the numbers and we will see that out of anywhere in the country, many Utahns use government money just like anywhere else in the country.

So because I have government grants which enable me to go to Westminster College, am I a bum and just lazy? If the government helps those that are less needy, why is that an evil? What would Jesus Christ have done? Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with a great family and the same opportunities as many of us. I get so tired of hearing about welfare and Democrats increasing welfare programs to help "lazy people". Bill Clinton is many of times referred to as the best Republican president of all time. Look up his records when it comes to welfare...

Nonetheless we should put down homeless people and those that have less talents and opportunities than us. I cannot comprehend in my mind how people really think this way and call themselves humans.
On Obama | 6:19 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
If Obama was running for First Preacher or First Orator, I would certainly vote for him. Unfortunately, that isn't the title he is running for but President of the United States. Talk is cheap and that is all he does. What has he actually done besides reject Baipa while even Noral had no opposition? Oh I know, he has run for President and nothing more...especially since he tends to vote "present" and not in the affirmative or negative. The man can't make a decision and therefore should be excluded from the list of capable candidates.
Maggie | 9:13 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Mitt swims with the political currents. If that is an effective leader to you then he's your man. Barack Obama has a core and he is true to it. You can agree or disagree with his political philosophies, but to disparage him as a person is pathetic and despicable - racism plays no small part in that I'm afraid. I personally recognize him as a uniquely capable, wonderful person and leader - qualities that make me fear for him and his safety.
Beau | 9:32 a.m. Aug. 28, 2008
Okay we can look at it that way. Did George W Bush really have any experience when it really came down to it? The Bush Administration has mad mistake after mistake the past eight years. Anyone with brains can easily see that. Did Ronald Reagan really have the foreign policy experience that so many Republicans are expecting in this election year? What about Bill Clinton, did he really have the necessary experience to take the mantle of being Commander and Chief? What measures more experience than another..... being governor or being in the active military for 20 years?

Now what if someone had 45 years of experience that meets exactly with the Republican format... would that person make a great President? When it comes down to it, its all about the people you surround yourself with and how you bring those people together that makes you a good president. Its all about bringing a nation together in one cause to make America a better country and to unite the world in world peace. What about John F Kennedy and his experience?

Explain the expected resume of the perfect candidate running for president...

What Romney's proven he can do is flip flop and eliminate American jobs by dismantling American companies or sending the jobs overseas.

Any one who voted for George W. Bush twice, is in no position to make the judgment of "ready to be president" so better go out and find something scare people about Obama with.
AL | 1:51 p.m. Aug. 28, 2008
I voted for George Bush twice and it has been the best vote I have ever cast. He has protected by putting into action a security system that has kept us from being attacted since. He has also keep the war off of our land. We'll see if you brilliant Demos canidate can do the same if he gets in there, and don't say he inherited George's war. He has known about that since it started and if he is so smart then he can figure a way out without us being attacked or I will be blame it him beings he think he is so much smarter that George Bush. We may or may not, as the case goes, get to see!!! Go McCain who will get us out safely and not be pressured by all these anti-land protecting haters who don't want to understand all the facts!!!!!!!!!
