Flip-Flop Mitt | 5:47 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Leave it to Mitt to attempt to get "beyond the glitz and the glitter" of the Democratic National Convention.

How much did Mitt charge for his McCain republican charity dinner at the Deer Valley ski resort earlier this year? It was almost $70,000 per couple per plate to attend. I'd call that pretty glitzy in itself.

And let's not forget how often Mr. Flip-Flop Romney has changed his position on abortion and gay marriage. Check YouTube for Mitt Romney video clips. They are truly amazing. History has shown that he'll change his position to match his desired political alignment.

Flip-Flop Mitt has changed sides more often than a Paris Hilton tanning party!
OK, Mr Expert | 5:49 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
You write: " It takes the right people and tremendous expertise to turn a failing company around, and Mitt is one of the few in the entire world that can do it."

Take Mitt's methods and apply them to fixing the US economy.

First you get a big bunch of money "given" to you to form Bain Capital, then you "invest".

How's that going to work, again?

Can't wait for the real game of the battle of words coming. Let McCain name his VP and then the real fun begins.

Romney is a great American and exactly the type of person we need in the federal government. My only regret is that he won't be president this time around but I will be pleased to see McCain pick him as VP. He will bring extensive executive and real world experience to the administration as compared to Obama-Biden who have never had a real job between them. Biden's been a US senator since he was 29 years old and has never worked in private business or actually run anything. Romney will crush Biden in the VP debate. McCain/Romney '08!
diss? | 6:04 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Is comparing Mitt to Rush Limbaugh supposed to be a knock? Opps, if you knew anything you'd know that most conservatives are not offended by a Mitt/Rush comparison.
Anonymous | 6:07 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Mitt Romney was and is head and shoulders above any of the candidates for president. American needs his goodness, integrity, intelligence and leadership.
Kurt | 6:06 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Mitt Romney is too smart and too talented to be elected President. The real talented leaders stay in the private sector and make millions.

The American people are to stupid, lazy and bigoted to be lucky enough to have a President like Mitt Romney.

Instead, the elect people like Clinton, Bush and Obama who are have the intellect of Mitt Romney.

America will get what she deserves. A tax loving, liberal, wolf in sheep clothing leader who is a fraud.
Obama 08 | 6:11 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Romney will doom McCain if picked.

He used to be a moderate (pro-choice, pro-gay rights) and will be attacked for it.

He's elitist and out-of-touch with the middle class (his wife complained about having to sell some of their stocks during a rough time in their lives--how sad!)

Evangelicals hate him. And he just isn't likeable outside of Utah, where only Mormons can stand him.

He said enough bad things about McCain in the GOP runoff to make Obama and Biden look like best friends.

So, go McCain / Romney

I know how many I have | 6:14 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
It wasn't about the number of homes McCain owns, it was the fact that he did not know how many he owns that is, well, weird. Being aware of one's own investments and property is just good business.
re: diss | 6:23 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Of course neocons would admit Romney is just like Limbaugh.
Fascists stick together in times of change.

Romney is easily the brightest and best politician this Canadian lawyer has seen in his 61 years. It's not even close. And I loved Dutch.
Sam | 6:31 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
All you demos, there are a lot of people, I mean a lot that own many more than 8 or 9 homes. Heck, half of those holywood folks probably own more than that. What is the big deal, Get a life.
NO Bama! | 6:33 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I have yet to here any concrete or even mildly substantial solutions to the challenges we face from Obama. Talk is sooo cheap! He is the king of talk. The message of "change" needs more than words and his record of action is scanty at best. He needs to address his youth in Jakarta. The press and everyone glides generously over this and says he was raised in Hawaii. He lived in Jakarta till he was 10!

Since when does a person become solely black when he actually has a white mother? Is he ashamed to be white at all? The chip on his shoulder is more and more evident everyday. Just wait till he's in the white house...watch out central USA!!

Sorry, I'm in the No-bama soul for now.
George | 6:38 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
We are praying that Mitt is on the ticket, otherwise we won't be voting.
The nation needs the intelligence, care, integrity, honesty and hard work that Mitt will bring to the table.

IF YOU FEEL YOU DON'T DESERVE A DECENT PRESIDENT THAT CAN BRING THE RIGHT CHANGE TO THE NATION, THEN BE STUPID AND DON'T VOTE FOR MITT.
PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!
Flip-flop Obama | 6:48 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
In my almost 7 decades, I have never seen such a smooth talker ("almost thou persuadest me"),
nor a politician so ready to flip to match the flops of the electorate.
DK Nutt | 6:52 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
The biggest mistake the Republicans made was not electing Mitt Romney for President. He would have changed the economy. Good luck with the other two canidates that we have to pick from. Our only hope is that McCain picks Romney as his runningmate and Romney accepts.
Can't wait | 6:55 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I can't wait til this election is over and we don't have to listen to anymore of this crap. Politics is all about self-preservation and paying back the special interest groups that donated large cash to get them elected.

Garbage in = Garbage out!
Anonymous | 7:00 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Between them, McCain and Romney will own 11 houses. I'm sure that will go down well with Americans who are losing their single home because Bain Capital eliminated or offshored their jobs.
Emerson | 7:08 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Except for the Southern Baptists freaking out, Romney would be a great choice.

re: rpmcestmoi | 7:22 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Mitt created more jobs than he ever cut. He made his money turning around companies, and throwing money and companies starting up. This is growth vs. watching companies that go belly up. Downsizing wouldn't be bad for this government! If the budget isn't balanced soon, it is going to collapse under its own weight. Read some history, and you will find we are fast approaching repeating the history of Germany after World War I, when that government was paying its debt by printing money. The Fed is printing money like no tomorrow trying to save the banks. Oil and everything is going up in price as a result. The deficits are getting bigger, not smaller. I'm not too happy with McCain because his Carbon cap & trade idea just might finish us off, but Obama has the same idea, and he is going to outspend McCain like no tomorrow. Hey, I'm looking forward to the $1000 he is going to give us. Course, as it is borrowed money, we will not really get it because it is going to make our money worth less. Vote for Obama, and watch the Democrats be turned out like they were under Clinton!
Ernest T. Bass | 7:22 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Nobody outside of Utah gives a rip if Romney is the VP nominee, other than the 90% of the repugs who are bigots and would likely vote for a black man before they would elect a Mormon.
Cats | 7:42 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Well, the Professional Bush Haters have now turned into Professional McCain and Romney Haters.

Actually, it is really sad to see some of these pathetic individuals spewing out all their EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS all over the internet in an effort to sound educated.

REALLY SAD!
Wondering | 7:52 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I haven't been convinced the Republicans have many answers to the current problems in the US.

For Mitt: If cutting taxes is the key to creating jobs and stimulating the economy, why have job creation and the economy been so miserable for the last 7 years? Even after the first recession resolved the job creation rate was pitiful. In the last 7 years middle class income declined (first time in history to do that). If that is a demonstration of the power of Republican economics count me out. I doubt that more of this will be better.

Historically, since these records began being kept in the Truman administration, the job creation rate under Democratic presidents was significantly better than under Republican presidents.

Rather than demonize the the other party or put out baseless (often factually incorrect) attack ads, why not advance policy positions that actually have merit?

Watch the liberals run (their mouths) like scared rats! Your magic boy's magic is wearing off. Gallup today: McCain 46% Obama 44% OUCH!!! You are all WAY out of touch if you if you think mainstream America is going to vote for that bumbling, empty suit!!! His smoke and mirrors might work in communist countries where people worship other people, but not in America.
Not a beginner's job! | 8:01 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Does anyone really think that the first management job a person should have is the presidency of the United States?

Is that really the right place for a beginner like Barack Obama?

Are we really that crazy?

No. It'd be completely insane but enough about what would happen should the dynamic duo bury the hatchet.
How Sad | 8:04 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
The thing that strikes me is how liberals when they cannot make an intelligent reply will resort to name calling. Some of the words that are spouted are neocon, fascist, racist, bigot. Sexist, homophobe. It would seem they are grammatically challenged and do no know how to respond in an intelligent manner. That is to be expected when they have been brainwashed with PC so much in their lives.

I really believe Obama is a good man but needs much more experience. In addition Senator Biden has been wrong on many issues over the past number of years. I'm sure they are both honorable men but really a poor choice to run our country. I am saddened by the personal attacks in many of these comments. I wonder if you would say the same things face to face with any of the candidates. Calm down, stick to the facts or at least be respectful in your opinions.
to Not a beginner's job | 8:20 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Would you mind pointing out what management job McCain has had? And while you're at it refresh my memory with what besides the Keating Five and the McCain-Feingold act he regularly violates McCain spend 30 years in the Senate doing.
Same Old, Same Old | 8:22 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
No Obama, can I just point out that you claim that you are upset because you feel Obama does not talk about substantive things he will do then you turn around and want him to defend himself against erroneous claims that have been addressed a hundred times before. So which is it? Do you want politics as usual or do you want a debate based on substance.

So let me ask this how many people (regardless of party) have actually read the policy plans of at least the two main party candidates? Or even the person they plan to vote for?

Everyone seems so clear what they will not vote for (name of candidate here) what policies of your candidate has convinced you to vote for your candidate.

SO CATS I SEE YOUR CAP LOCK STILL WORKS. How about some substance to back up the rhetoric.

You are so right; Socialist, Liberal, Communist, Marxist, etc... are just such positive reaffirming labels especially in the context that all Conservative GOP Dittoheads use on these boards.

Turnabout is fairplay?

I guess I'm either with you or against you?
Outside of Utah | 8:40 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
A lot of people care about Romney outside of Utah. Romney is much bigger that these small minded critics ken. Check out usatoday, csmonitor, Boston herald and Globe, Time, msnbc, denverpost, foxnews, cnn, washingtonpost, latimes, abcnews, etc., etc. Everyone is talking about Romney because he is among the best options McCain has. What scares me is that McCain might just try to win votes by choosing Hillary as his VP candidate. He is liberal enough to consider it and politcs does work that way. How do people get so small minded to imagine that Romney is a Utah & Mormon only candidate?
Rutland vs. Medfield | 9:01 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
The issue with the number of houses John McCain owns has nothing to do with his wealth and ability to buy those properties.

The issue is that the man comes off so very out of touch with the common citizen and the state of the nation's economy.

In just a very short span of time, McCain defines rich as having $5M or more. Then he states in an interview his belief that the economy is strong and doing well while almost simultaneously not being able to recall off the top of his head how many homes he and his wife own--offering to have his staff get back to the interviewer with the answer.

Of course the Obama campaign is going to jump on thatas well they should.

My friends, McCain is old and bitter and out of touch. He is nothing like a man that should be president.

Go Mitt!! | 9:06 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Mitt Romney is one of many qualified potential Veeps. Compared to how many truly qualified dems, we are naturally better off voting republican.

It's too bad that Obama is an empty headed airbag, spewing the same rhetoric over and over and over. He's all talk with absolutely no track record to prove he can pull off all his lofty ideas. What a joke - it's even hard to believe he got as far as he did, but then dems tend to look on the outside package and not on the inside.

Heck, Clinton would have given the dems a much better race. At least she is far more qualified to be president and would have actually proven she has a track record.

I hope Mitt is the selection for Veep - he'll bring common sense change to our healthcare, economy and will lend vital support to foreign policy to compliment McCain's strength in that area. And he's humble enough to be the Veep.

Go Mitt. You have our vote.
Wrong VP Attacks | 9:13 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Biden is the scary one...

He has been wrong on just about everything.

Would you rather still be involved in the Cold War? He fought Reagan tooth and nail.

And he's Beav Obama's Wally???

Come on Dems, can you really buy that ticket?
CaptMorg | 9:25 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I find it very entertaining to read the many comments from both sides of this argument. Everyone is so passionate and sure that they are right. I will remind you that we are talking politics here. That means that everyone on both sides will talk a lot about what sounds good and what they think the largest majority of voters want to hear. It is rather sad that there is so much venom being thrown about by both sides. Name calling and passing judgments on the character of a person with only knowing who they are by what you read in the paper or because they are the same religion as you is very irresponsible. Whether you believe in the Bible or not there is very good wisdom in the story that ends with Jesus saying, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." You are supposed to have an opinion and be able to choose according to your best judgment, but trying to influence people with snide, sarcastic comments is not productive. Also, irresponsible comments that are full of grammatical and spelling errors only add to your lack of credibility. Use spell check!

Get over the homes, Maybe they ought to ask Obama what his high school GPA was. What differnace does it make. What executive experience does Obama have, how many significant bills did Obama get through the Senate, how many commitees does he chair? Where's the Beef? Let McCain announce his running mate, it'll surley have more successes than Obama/Biden. Mitt could be and should be, but McCain like the true leader will chose the best for the nation, they'll upstage the Dems & the Liberals.
Good luck Mitt.

Obama sealed his defeat when he selected Biden! Watch his poll numbers drop like a rock! As it is now, it doesn't matter who McCain choses, it's already decided! McCain will win by 160 electorial votes in Nov.

So you feel such contempt for the man cause he didn't pay attention to you? I'm sure he never does that... I mean YOUTUBE him and you can see him talking to PLENTY of people. He handles an anti-Mormon PERFECTLY!!

Now I guess that wouldn't matter to you because YOU have PROVEN that you are anti-Mormon as well.

I'm a Paleo-conservative with an open mind about politics and any campaign or force for doing good. YOU!! and haters LIKE YOU are what ruin this country and the planet. Disgusting remarks about cutting someone down WITH NO SUBSTANCE and NO GAIN!? WHERE DO YOU GET OFF!?!?

I guess no one EVER votes for a candidate based on religion....when it involves a "Mormon" more criticism hits him than in ANY other religion. Anyone who can't figure all this out by now is either a moron or working against what they know is good. Selfish idiots bring down their own demise!
kathyn | 11:29 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I was really thinking (and wishing) that Hillary C. would throw a monkey wrench into the Demo Convention. She absolutely would have made the ticket much stronger than Biden will. It will be interesting to see who McCain picks. I'm an Independent and still kind of undecided about who I'll vote for. I must say, Ron Paul is looking better all of the time. Too bad he hasn't got a chance.
David | 11:38 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
I am from Michigan where his father George was a Governor who was well liked by both Democrats and Republicans. I think Mitt would be great for the job. However, since there are more controvercial issues in our times people are worried that he will let church doctrines rule certain issues.

I'm quite tired of all this talk of "change" from both parties. I love George W. Bush and it's rare that I agree with someone so perfectly. I wish he could give us another term. But, he also needs a break from the presidency. I'll miss you Pres. Bush. You're my Reagan!
