Due process is being violated. I think parents should in general be able to keep their children, and this means that CPS should have to come up with demonstable reasons to remove them. This means CPS should be subjected to normal court proceedings and should not be allowed to whine "this case is too big, we need to act as if all the children are the same". There are 440 children, and CPS should have to do 440 times the work it would do with one child.
I don't think we should throw out the statutory rape laws, but that we should get some real parental consent in abortion laws. However, the latter is hard when people start creating new rights.
If you think the FLDS are abusive I would hate how you would react to some of the outfits I have seen women wearing in Hamtramck in the middle of July.
Full Burkhas with only their eyes visible. The FLDS are so scandalous their women go outside with their hair exposed for everyone to see. This huge amount of exposure would be a family disgrace for many families in Dearborn.
Just because someone does not conform to your culture does not make them a criminal.

Tell all your FLDS buddies to study the way the Amish do it and try that for a while. Obviously they will lose some folowers that way (since they are allowed to understand the outside world insteas of being told everyone is evil). But that's ok - that's called freedom.
And the gov't isn't judging "indoctrination". The FLDS practice it by doing things like banning most books. If a child cannot read books that relate to the real world, or even fantasy books to stir their imagination, then they are muting and droning their children.
why are they so afraid of letting their children understand the outside world? It's not all drugs and violence, you know. These kids aren't even allowed to read books like Old Yeller, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, etc. That's just stupid.
I can't even explain how screwed up their priorities are. All they care about is keeping everyone in line and either making more FLDS baby-drones or working at a construction site and giving all their money.
