Highland might be one the the biggest and talented teams in the state but unless they learn to hold on to the ball it might be a long season. I give credit to MC for doing what they needed to do to get the win. I think both teams will get alot better by the of the season.
6 turnovers! 3 fumbles lost, and 3 interceptions. No offense to Mountain Crest, but Highland gave this one away!
Mountain Crest is a well coached team, that is all I have to say! Coach Wooton is one of the best in the state! And the Mustangs played their hearts out!
The season is still very young though, and like Football Fan said, if the Rams can take care of the ball, they will be in the playoffs.
I have all faith in the Rams!
Go HHS!
Last I checked the Defense is resposible for creating turnovers, which is exactly what happened in this game. Give credit where credit is due, the Mustang D stepped it up in a huge way. Plus, the yardage difference is a little misleading since the Stangs caused so many turnovers they were dealing with a short field for most of the game. Highland couldn't stop our passing game and to be honest Coach Wooten never really gave M.C.'s running game a chance to get going. Two excllent running backs and they both carried the ball under six carries the entire game. Everyone knows for a running back to be effective they have to get into some kind of a groove and that requires touching the ball more than six times a game. Hmmmmm.
There was no way Mountain Crest was going to run on Highland, and Coach Wooten knew it. I can understand a running back needing to get touches to get into the groove, but I was at the game, and there was no running groove for Mountain Crest to get into, the facts are straight -19 yards rushing, for an entire game. And every time MC tried to run, they were either dropped for negative yards, or right at the line of scrimmage.
So I give credit to Wooten, for recognizing that they were not going to be able to run vs. Highland, and going to the passing game.
Also, turnovers, are a combination, of mistakes by the offense, and good play by the defense, but I would say offensive miscues is the bigger factor.
It's still early MC, you got a good win, but the facts are the facts, we held you to -19 yds. rushing, nearly doubled your total offense, and were steadily moving the ball on your defense, when our mistakes gave you the ball.
Chalk it up to first game jitters! HHS will be alright!
To: To House,
You tell MC that facts are facts and Highland held them to this or doubled them in that but the only fact that matters is Mountain Crest won the game. As a fan of another school I think Highland got out coached. When you have the ball 3rd and goal on the 7 and you try to pass with the runners you have then you deserve to lose. Pound the ball and you score (or fumble) and make it a one touchdown game. I do however agree that you will be fine and go deep into the playoffs. IMO
Same old region 6 excuse makers and whiners. Highland, East, West etc. Face it region 6 is the worst 4-A region in football, as evident in all of the first round exits last year in the playoffs. You region 6 teams, like Highland, are only superstars in YOUR own region 6 world. Your yearly excuses when you guys lose are always (we gave it away, we make too many mistakes, weren't prepared, jitters). Maybe when you can fully admit you LOST, then you can began looking internally at ways to get better. Until then keep thinking you're SO GOOD and you'll be sent packing after the first round again. Yours Truly, Regions 5, 7 & 9.
As a Mustang fan I am so happy we got this win. It will be a good confidence booster to get a great win over an amazing program. Both Mountain Crest and Highland are outstanding and are always tough. I don't think Highland should go around saying how they gave it away. Turnovers are because the defense played well. You could have thrown a bad pass, or dropped the ball, but if the defense wasn't good, they wouldn't have intercepted or recoverd the fumble. So give credit to Mtn. Crest, they deserved to win! On the other hand, MC shouldn't go and think they are gonna beat Timpview now. When you cause 6 or so turnovers in a game, you should win by a lot more than 5 points! So you still have pleny of work to do. Good luck to both teams and may we finally take down Timpview!
My hat's off to Mountain Crest, your coaches and players did a great job! Mountain Crest is a great program, and we enjoy playing you guys. I also enjoyed meeting and talking to the Mountain Crest fans, we were sitting next to.
It was a great, well fought game.
Best of luck to the Mustangs, on the remainder of your season, I know you'll do well.
Rams, learn from this loss, and we'll see you next week.
Get over yourselves. Who talks trash on 17 year olds? Let them play, seriously..... C-wood, Highland, and East, will prove last years 07 playoffs were a fluke (look at 05, 06 if you dont beleive me.) 6 has 3 solid teams, other regions have 2 at best, some only 1.
Re: Just One Game - That's just what I was referencing. That attitude that Region 6 is so great and saying last year was a "fluke". Nice Out! You're almost correct saying the other regions only have 1 or 2 good teams. However, those 1 or 2 good teams are well ahead of Region 6's 1 or 2 "good" teams.
Re: Region 6 @ 9:50 p.m.
Don't you think it's too early in the season to start making those kinds of statements?
Yes, Region 6 got beat up on last year! But, that was last year. So, why don't we play a few more games, and see where the chips fall?
One win, or loss, this early, does not indicate how things are going to work out.
Life is too short, to be arguing over such trivial things, lighten up, and let the kids play.
Two teams played their hearts out and battled to the end. It was a game of two great programs with great kids that should be proud. The game was played the way it should be played with class and effort. The game ended with two team respecting each other and acting like champions. There is no need to knock kids who have the courage to step out on a field and compete for a school. It really is OK to look for the positives that come out of high school athletics rather then tearing down kids who are trying to do something good. One game in and people are already popping off. You should be embarrassed. MC and Highland respect each other and are excited to play each other and test each other each season. Classy rivalry.
I like how you bag on Region 6 and dont even represent a team, then you'll come back and say that your a Timpview Fan. Come on now, Region 6 is the Best Region in the State and I would stack our region against any other Region last year this year two years ago, when ever. This year is still early. GO Rams! Congrats to MC for taking care of business.
To 1:40 p.m. Post: "I would stack our region against any other Region last year this year" That was your direct quote. Well, you did stack your region against the others last year and came out 1 win and 4 losses first week in the playoffs. Nice Try!
Highland sacked MC alot and that takes away rushing yards from the offense. Its not like MC went backwards everytime they ran the ball. I think Highland will be just fine. I really think they need to learn how to pass the ball. Right now they have only one option and that is to run. They will not make it the championship game this fall if that is all they can do.
