Mt. View continues to live off the press clippings of media-types who think the Bruins have returned to their prominence of the 1990's. Not so.
The Orem schools (all three) are no longer the powers of Utah County. Timpview, Pleasant Grove, and American Fork have out-performed the MV teddy-bears, the Orem Kittens, and the Timpanogos puppies.
MV should have never got rid of Coach Rehrer. Anyone who has followed MV football can clearly see that the program has gone downhill ever since he was fired. (He was fired 2 seasons after he posted an undefeated regular season in '99, by the way). In his first couple years at MV, Principal Clark heard some complaints from parents whose boys weren't playing enough and that Rehrer was 'a mean guy'. Intense? Yes. Mean? Far from it. An incredible coach and an even better person. Clark listened to the complaints (with little or no investigation as to their truths) and fired Rehrer. MV has probably averaged 3 or 4 wins per season since.
....Pretty sad.
PV has a solid team, wish them the best of luck. Hope our running backs are alright.
You can't sit there and say that Coach Rehrer is the best, I mean he was really awesome.. But can't hold last nights loss on Teko. Teko is totally awesome clearly helped turn around the team from their losing streak.. Yes they lost last night, but Pineview is one of the best solid teams in the state along with Timpview, they can't be expected to win. As for MV no longer being a power, they were last year so don't step on that junk. They were way under estimated and out played almost every team that they did play. Yes they are no longer a HUGE power. But they are still good. This year they are going to have a really rough year because there is most definitely not as much talent as last year, or as the 90's. Coach plays apart. But Teko is an amazing coach. He can't take the wrap off a expected loss.
My son, a PV player heard the crowd cheer, Good job, Pine View - at the end of the game. I thought that showed great sportsmanship. Someone is doing something right at your school! Thanks!
yeah your right timpanogos puppies arnt any good.. they only finished 5th in state last your... i mean p.g. did so much better.. and so did orem... and the fact is if all those three orem schools combined they would be the size of riverton high school
PV played a decent game against MV. Running game with Ence, Hafoka & big O line is impressive, but the team is noticeably one dimensional offensively without Rob Evans. Other receivers better step up or the better teams will load the box and PV will get beat.
miss u rob, Pineview missed Rob some, but he was not the team and to think they will fall without him is the opinion of a short sighted and one-sided individual. The game they played was not as explosive as last year. First game jitters, new players, and great expectations, I think they responded and played well after settling in. The recievers are getting their timing down and routes.
They have some very young sophomores, a wide out replacing Rob and a tight end that will back up Orr and be a force before the season is over.
Go panthers, Rob we do miss you and as always happens someone steps up just as you did.
Fact: PV did what it had to do to win. The defense which goes unmentioned here made the plays when it absolutely had to. They out-toughed, out-strengthed, and out-lasted MV's big back attack. Fact: Justin Ence and Villiami Hafoka were the PV offense, period.
Fact: PV receivers must and will step up, but no one is going to step up to the level of Evans and PV's passing attack was flat and ineffective withou him. They missed him, they missed him badly, and that's all there is to it. Don't get on someone's case for pointing out the truth.
Let's wait a bit on that "as always someone steps up just as you did. At MV last night, there wasn't one receiver who stepped up. They might, and for sure need to, but don't act like it happened when it didn't. Rob Evans was and is not "the team" as you say, but you're in a dream world if you couldn't see the effect of his absence out there last night. Get real.
Who cares if Ence and Villi were the offence-Everyone knew it was coming and still couldn't stop it. Evans is a great athlete but he was not PV's entire "TEAM". PV will be just fine and those young additions will put forth the effort to get them where they need to be. Ence struggled a bit-not because Evans wasn't there but because it was the first time he led that team on his own. Last year he stepped in on the plays they wanted him to run on. This year he is responsible for all of it. Justin is an extremely tough kid and will lead this team. The team is not dwelling on Evans but we are certainly glad everyone else is. We hope they stop focusing on the rest of the team because it will bite them in the backside eventually.
It was a good game for sure, not really how everyone wanted to see Pv win but its a win. Guys remember that the offensive side of the ball is considerably youth. Ence, Villi, Wood, the two wide outs (i dont know thier last names), have never started or played those positions at the varsity level ever. So just relax the recievers will step up.
Easy to say that young receivers will 'step up' but it's impossible to replace a all state D1 receiver like Robert Evans. Its a lot to ask Juniors and Sophomores to fill his shoes.Maybe it will happen but it's not likely. If Pine View goes back to the state championship game it will be Ence and the defense leading them there.Good luck.
Stop with Evans-someone has a love affair with him- But you seriously sound like you are mad that PV won. I bet you were hoping that they would lose so you could have tooted your horn about it.. Like I said the team has moved on- I guess in your opinion PV should just forfit the rest of their games because "Bert" isn't out there.. I hope you're not a fan of our team because wow is all I can say to your comments.
Wasn't Evans a junior last year, but in your opinion no one can step up like he did. You seem to think there is no one on the team now that Evans is hurt. Take a look at the players. As for last years team there was Marinko, Tait, Ence, Dias and the entire O line that made the team run. Perhaps these players made the whole team better, including Evans. I believe that Ence and the rest will do ok. The test will be the game they have with the Cal team. I wish them well as I hope you do. I also wish the best for Evans, if he could only come back it would help his chances of being a D1 recruit. Let's all pull together for the team and not the individuals (which would make PV look a lot like another St. George ) GO PINE VIEW!!!!!!!
why do pine view players always go crazy over the little things like numbers and names.
it's like if you accused a pine view player of not having an achilles tendon he would find a scalpel and tear his leg open just to show you!
i remember last year after they got eaten by timpview they were all complaining about the open enrollment policy at that school.
we all know PV has a good team this year and in years past, but they definitely have a reputation as a whining school, but thankfully they are not as bad as snow canyon.
congrats on the win, but what PV really needs to do to get everyone's respect is to play hard and shut up.
that's where real champions are.
This debate clearly has two sides: (1) Those with the opinion Rob Evans was THE team, and (2) Those with the view he wasn't that important. Both views are dead wrong. How about handling it at least as well as Evans is? Go to the 1210 AM Sports Radio website and listen to the archived interview he gave to Devin Dixon last week--pure class. Or ask one of his teammates about his speech to the team just after being elected a team captain--not one mention of himself or his injury, just the team and what they have to do to win. It's clear HE never believed he was THE team, & you don't get selected as the 1st Team All-State 4A WR because you're just average. So drop it. And 'PVForever' keep your day job--you have no idea how to analyze a football game.
The great debator there says everyone is wrong.. Ok that is fine- My point is neither that Evans was the team or not that important. My POINT is that it's over with. Why dwell on something that is not going to change. He is out of the picture and the team has to deal with it. Why beat a dead horse over and over again? But someone on these blogs just can't get enough of it. It's like you're concerned that someone is going to forget him-listen no one on that team will forget him. They miss him out there because he was a friend too-not just someone who caught balls. But they can't roll over and die just because he can't do that this year. Noone said he was a great reciever-but he is not suited up and these boys have got to move on.
Oops-meant to say wasn't a great reciever because he was.. Typo..
I meant to say that noone said he wasn't a great reciever because he is.. Sorry for the typo.
hey how about that offensive line. They did a great job, yes there are a few new players on the line but they bucked up and held those boys. With a strong line from last year. Lytle, Boyer, and Moss. They'll get there. Defense had a few problems but it wont take long to figure those out with the great coaching staff at pine view. sorry to hear about Evans but they'Ve got alot of talent waiting to play. Ence, Woods, Orr, Harris and more they will work hard to get there.
