Way to go boys, it's always nice to start off with a W. I must say I was very impressed with Fowler. That would be a stressful situation as a sophomore. This team will turn some heads, watch out for Hinds cause he's an animal!!
Remay1 | 7:47 a.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Great job Davis! On small correction: Tanner Hinds is a junior, not a senior as the story reports. Good job by both the offense and defense.
Trueblue | 7:52 a.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Hunter is known for being a running offense,if its not working try passing more often.Size matter if your quick.Good luck.

I attended the game and came away feeling that when the 2008 football season ends that Hunter will be a better football team than Davis. It was evident from the get go that Hunter's suspenions of six key players (discipline from last years season ending brawl at American Fork) was largley felt (and I do mean largely. Those kids are huge and talented). I feel that the second quarterback Pearce played could/should eventually win the starters job, but both have potential.

Positives from game one of the Pearce era was the complete control he had of his team and sideline. There were no stupid penalties. The 'new' sound system was a vastly welcomed improvement. The scoreboards marquee indicating the renaming of the field to the 'Ed Mayne' football stadium brought back some pleasant memoriories, along with a few tears, of one of Hunter's biggest supporter/fan.

Hunter High is headed in the right direction!

Congratulations to Fowler for a successful first varsity game, and congrats to the rest of the Davis team for for making sure that happened. Great team work and effort. The tests will only get harder so keep up the hard work and focus!!! GO DAVIS!!!

As a parent of Hunter football players for the last 6 yearz, i am very pleased with the change in last nights game. It was so nice to see respect from the players that has been needed for many years right down to the boys that were suspended. I see good changes this year. I would like to thank the coaches and the administration for the changes. It makes me sad to know this is my son's last year, but I am looking forward to a good season and I hope it is a good one for the seniors.......
Positive Steps! | 9:35 a.m. Aug. 23, 2008
I have been attending Hunter games for more than a decade and it is such a refreshing change to see some discipline and control from the players. We look forward to seeing the progress that occurs over the coming weeks and years from Coach Pearce. It is clear to myself and many others that the talent pool is tremendous at the school, but that we just lacked the focus to get the job done. I can reflect on so many 15 yard personal fouls in the past 5 years alone that cost us dearly. Great job last night boys. The wins will come. Keep the focus and follow your coach's direction.

I bet there are quite a few Hunter fans who want to go back to the old administration where it was anything goes as long as you won. At least they are trying to do the right things now, they should be commended for their efforts.

Great job boys keep up the work. Everything looked really smooth and I loved the "camp d" that you guys brought. Don't be satisfied at the least bit. Hunter is not a very good team so don't get big headed or anything like that. Good start Gavin, way to catch the ball Avery, and ground control still dominated.
Darts 1 | 3:20 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Great start DARTS. Sophomore QB Fowler ran the O like a seasoned vet. 16 for 18 is amazing. With the combination of the pass to the great receivers on the outside( Avery, Garrett, Moffit and Welk), along with the strong running of Junior RB Hinds, the Darts could be a sleeper in that region. Great team effort on the defense. Shut-out baby..... No excuses Hunter, you got beat by a good team.

woo woo davis !
Go Darts | 3:47 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Great victory guys. Hunter is always tough and to get a shut-out is a great accomplishment. Young Fowler and Hinds, well done. Defense, well done. Now, let's get Brighton.
Darts Fan | 3:53 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Nice victory against Hunter. Keep up the good work vs Brighton.
Hunter Dad | 4:07 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
It was nice to see good sportsmanship from our kids. We need that at Hunter. Davis was tough. They had a good QB and a strong runner. Maybe we will see them down the line in the play-offs.
Old Dart | 4:13 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Great team effort boys. We traveled from Kaysville to WVC to watch you and we were impressed. You have some great young talent out there. I will say the passing of the QB and the running of #2 were the highlights as well as the solid defense. Way to hold them on the last play of the game.
Scout | 4:45 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
This is the worst Hunter team i have seen in a decade.
They keep playing like that and they will take last place in their region. They didnt look like they had their typical size and stength. Just average speed. The new coach has a lot of work to do. 4 and 1 and cant punch it in? they better get an attitude quick.
Didnt even see any stand out players.
Was this coaching change for the better?

Old-n-Grey1 | 5:53 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Hunter is a traditional power house and as with a lot of schools going through a coaching transition will have to find its strengths by having its weaknesses exposed. Its a learning, this time humbling, experience that will only make the Wolverines stronger. When the pieces come together for Hunter it will be tough for all opponents to overcome the new breed of disciplined, talented, and physical Wolverines. Hats off to the Davis juggernaut and keep your heads up Wolverines change is a good but enduring thing.
Darts Rock | 6:29 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Right on football team. We are ready to take it to the top. Nice job coaches, players and cheerleaders. Where was the band?
Scout 1 | 6:51 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Scout is being pretty hard on the Wolverines. We will get better and yes, the coaching change will be positive. When we get everyone back we will be tough. We got beat by a good Davis team. Their back ran hard and their QB killed us on some 3rd down plays but we will be back.
Anonymous | 7:35 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Hunter players are HUGE, if they could just utilize their talent and become a team they could be a dominating program and this is coming from a Davis fan
Scout again | 10:28 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Davis looked bigger, however I heard that some players from Hunter are suspended, I dont know how many or who,but it will be interesting to see their whole team back in play. Then it will be a better judgment of their team capabilities. Ill be watching, current status Hunter is not a power house or capable of winning their region. HS football always changes in region play. Good luck to the team.
Rodfather | 8:24 a.m. Aug. 24, 2008
Great jobs Darts. I've known that Fowler boy since he was a wee lad. Great kid and a great start. I may be off in a land far far away, The Pacific Northwest, but I still keep track of the Darts. GO DAVIS !!!!! Hope to see you play in a few weeks.
AS-Former Dart | 10:15 p.m. Aug. 24, 2008
Wow, I was surprised with Davis' performance against Hunter. It does show that with a strong heart, anything is possible and that everyone contributing to the team adds more to the team's success. Keep up the good work and the way they've been performing, and they'll go far.
Lancer for Life | 5:55 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
It will be great to see the Davis soph cry when Layton's Defense shuts him down.
Lancers get a life | 8:54 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008
Ha ha Layton's defense? What defense? Who do they have? All you ever hear about is Jackson, does Layton have any other players?
New coach | 5:52 p.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Hunter, on the other hand, failed to convert on third down most of the time.
Bill | 2:50 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
That welk kid is a great athlete some of his catches were amazing he is one of the better players in the state
Darts | 6:11 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
To bad Welk is hurt.
Layton Loser | 6:16 p.m. Aug. 30, 2008
Gavin will fill the air with missles and Layton will be crying their eyes out.
Clair Jensen | 8:33 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Gavin I knew you could do it!! I always had faith in you! I may be a Layton Lancer, but I will always support Davis for you! I told you that they would see what you truely were worth! I love you kid
