can you say cheap | 5:48 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
A two dollar tip!? Get real senator. You should have at least tipped the delivery drive at the very least five dollars. Remember the delivery driver is using their own vehicles to bring you your food, the wear and tear, and they may not being paid per mile by the pizza store. I would suggest that in future you put some frozen pizzas in the freezer, go out and get it yourself, or buy a take and bake and cook it at home.
Chuck | 6:10 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
I agree with Jason. The story is Bramble's arrogance not the check.
To whatta dinosaur | 6:13 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
I once worked for a man who is in his mid 80's now. He is one of those dinosaurs that you seem to think make no contribution to the world anymore. He refuses to do business with any business who refuses to take his check. He is as honest as the day is long. He is just used to doing things the way he has always done them. Yeah, he is a dinosaur. He is also worth more than $300 million dollars.

Haven't we all been unkind to someone else at some time? Isn't this going a little too far? If he had an affair, that is important - if he was dishonest in some other way that is too. But we have all done something like this at some point - except the holier-than-thou Democrats pontificating above. ;)
Bob in line | 6:15 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
The Brambles are good people. Admitted he is heavy handed on occassions and he certainly gotten used to special treatment.

The bad thing is, besides whether or not it's smart to use a check versus credit card, who else has their life posted on a blog, and ultimately the front page of the states largest newspaper?

Admitted you shouldn't argue with the pizza girl but how many of us have done dumb things like this? Told someone they were an idiot driver? I know the big difference is he is a public figure.

The Bramble bashing aside it is a perfect example of why great people never even think of running for office. Who wants to live in a fishbowl like this? This means that so many of our elected people are maybe not the best around. How many G Washingtons or T Jeffersons do we have now? Almost none.

In any case, I don't find joy in this story. Wish the Bramble family well. And that Curt would settle down and not forget what it's like to be treated special because he's a Senator. He needs to get back to being like he was.
James H | 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
Isn't that nice? A public figure wants special treatment because he's a public figure.

No wonder our legislature is so screwed up.

When we moved from SLC to Houston in 2000 I could use checks everywhere in SLC. We had just driven into Houston, had <$10 cash, but had checks and credit cards. We went to several places that only accepted cash - we were dying. Almost no one accepts checks there, and now nearly everyone accepts credit/debit cards. Utah is much easier. This guy is an arrogant dork, but doesn't justify the persistent complaining I always read in these forums.

I almost moved back, but work took me to the midwest. What made it easier to not return to what I consider a great city to live in, was all you whiners, that constantly complain about "Utah politics." I didn't care much for Houston as a city or the politics (which were much, much more corrupt - even than Rocky), so I MOVED. You can do the same. And no, I'm not a Utah repub.
to Obviously not from Utah | 6:51 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
Utah businesses pretty much don't take checks anymore and haven't for a decade as somewhere in the mid-80s it became very popular for the average joe/julie to use check writing as a "floater loan" for themselves. Then banks upped their technology and everyone went bouncy bounce. BIG problemo here. Solution: no more checks.
to What an Old Man | 6:53 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
Sorry, young'un (and I ain't so old myself) but rent is still paid by check. My landlord hasn't got the hang of online payments yet. It's the only reason I have checks.
l | 7:54 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
Bramble is old fashioned. He probably even called the store on his landline to place the order instead of doing it via text message like Obama does. Welcome to the 21st century, Bramble.
uncannygunman | 8:18 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
I will defend Bramble on the $2 tip--this is a pizza delivery, not hand-and-foot service at a fine restaurant! Unless this was a really big order, $2 sounds adequate to me. Maybe not excessive or even generous, but adequate.
Regular Folk | 8:33 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
I told the pizza joint that I'm losing my house after 15 years, that my car got repossessed, I can't use my supply of TRAX tokens to get to work, that I work as a custodian and also volunteer at my kids school and she said they only take cash or charge...no checks.

I guess it doesn't work.

this guy is a typical politician.

The RULES... they are for the little people.
The politicians are above the rules.

Just ask John Edwards, or the Clintons, or ,,,,

Bramble is not the kind of person I want in the Legislature
Commoner | 9:45 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
Bramble and every other legislator who has allowed our current check collection statute to be on the books are to fault for the no check policy.

They are the ones who have made it financially impossible to collect on bad checks from people who simply don't want to pay by capping the amount of fees a company can collect from bad check writers at rates lower than the cost of collection. So companies simply quick taking checks.

So Kurt, if you don't like "no check" policies, then support your business community and give them the financial flexibility to collect bad checks from the deliberately defiant bad check writers.

Its your problem, you can fix it.
HA HA... | 9:51 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008
...I can't stop laughing. The article was hilarious and the comments are even better. Good grief. Give the guy a break. ...then again, I can't believe Bramble actually responded to the Deseret News' questions on the matter.

I did NOT have a confrontational relationship with that woman....
rdha | 2:42 p.m. Aug. 23, 2008
Pretty crazy story but humorous in it's own right. Mr. Bramble should be humbled in public from time to time, respected politician or not. I would give that pizza girl much more than a $2.00 tip.
Vote RaDene! | 2:04 a.m. Aug. 24, 2008
A quick Google search shows this wasn't an isolated incident. I expect my state majority leader to be someone who is respectful and considerate of everyone. If he's like this to a pizza girl, I hate to think what he's been like behind closed doors--which there are so many of in our legislature.
Jay | 1:59 p.m. Sept. 21, 2008
I have known Curt for 25 years.....a good and fair man though direct, which is refreshing at times!
He says what is true, no window dressing, you know where you stand. I respect him, he is a very bright and capable man.
He will always have my vote and support.
I am so glad I'm not in the public eye because I would hate to have my every action attacked by the critics, if so,we all would be ALL be in in deep trouble!!!
An Idea: how about.... CASH, WITH PROPER ID?
