Crosswalk or not a 4 year old has no business being in the street without an adult within arms reach. How horrible for his mom to witness this. Bet she wishes she wasn't busy gabbing with friends. Hope he fully and quickly recovers.

The comment board at KSL says he passed away. (this news from friends of the family) So sad. I do agree that 4 year olds need extra attention because kids can be so quick. Condolences to the family and all those who witnessed this horrible event. Other adults may very well carry an unneccessary burden of guilt, wishing they'd have noticed and prevented it. Sooo sorry for them too. It wasn't their fault.

My condolences to the family. What a horrible accident which didn't need to happen. I am sure there are many people who are suffering and feeling guilt. I hope forgiveness can happen and lessons can be learned.

The article said she was standing ACROSS the street with other parents. Unless she had very long arms, I'd say he wasn't within arms reach. Obviously it wasn't safe or he'd still be with us.

It seems like every other day we read another story about a very young child being maimed or killed in accidents that didn't need to happen. When will it stop? I guess some people have to learn the hard way instead of from others misfortunes.

Every school should make every teenage driver read this story, so they might realize how careful drivers really need to be. I feel bad for this kid. But most drivers don't drive with enough caution, especially teens

I think every reader can learn a few valuable lessons from your comment. Often times in life we voice opinion and JUDGE others with very limited and often inaccurate information - and especially in this case when your limited knowledge is coming from the bits and pieces gathered and presented by the MEDIA. There was a lot more to this story than is shared - and although I could share more to enlighten your "assumptions" - that is not my purpose. Second, Everyone has witnessed and experienced "accidents" in life. Some minor, others major! They happen often times despite several measures of prevention and feelings of "what if" haunt our minds. We do the best we can, we are here to live the best lives we know how, and we would be a better world if we would stop and recognize that in each other rather than throw negative gander! I only hope your life is never touched by an accident of this magnitude and that uneducated or ignorant people never unjustly judge you. If you knew the scene - the mother did not do anything wrong despite what you think you know!!!

That's right put the responsibility on the schools and not the parents. Get a clue!!!

Condolences to the family, but also to the boy who hit the little child. I have a four-year-old boy and would be devastated if this happened to him. However, the 15 year-old did not mean to do it and now has to live with the guilt of this tragic event for the remainder of his life. It's a tragic lesson that hopefully many can learn from.
